Luke 14:10 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 On a Sabbath day, Jesus went to the home of a leading Pharisee to eat with him. The people there were all watching him very closely.
2 A man with a bad disease was there in front of him.
3 Jesus said to the Pharisees and experts in the law, "Is it right or wrong to heal on the Sabbath day?"
4 But they would not answer his question. So he took the man and healed him. Then he sent the man away.
5 Jesus said to the Pharisees and teachers of the law, "If your son or work animal falls into a well on the Sabbath day, you know you would pull him out immediately."
6 The Pharisees and teachers of the law could say nothing against what he said.
7 Then Jesus noticed that some of the guests were choosing the best places to sit. So he told this story:
8 "When someone invites you to a wedding, don't sit in the most important seat. They may have invited someone more important than you.
9 And if you are sitting in the most important seat, they will come to you and say, 'Give this man your seat!' Then you will have to move down to the last place and be embarrassed.
10 "So when someone invites you, go sit in the seat that is not important. Then they will come to you and say, 'Friend, move up here to this better place!' What an honor this will be for you in front of all the other guests.
11 Everyone who makes themselves important will be made humble. But everyone who makes themselves humble will be made important."
12 Then Jesus said to the Pharisee who had invited him, "When you give a lunch or a dinner, don't invite only your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. At another time they will pay you back by inviting you to eat with them.
13 Instead, when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, and the blind.
14 Then you will have great blessings, because these people cannot pay you back. They have nothing. But God will reward you at the time when all godly people rise from death."
15 One of the men sitting at the table with Jesus heard these things. The man said to him, "What a great blessing it will be for anyone to eat a meal in God's kingdom!"
16 Jesus said to him, "A man gave a big dinner. He invited many people.
17 When it was time to eat, he sent his servant to tell the guests, 'Come. The food is ready.'
18 But all the guests said they could not come. Each one made an excuse. The first one said, 'I have just bought a field, so I must go look at it. Please excuse me.'
19 Another man said, 'I have just bought five pairs of work animals; I must go and try them out. Please excuse me.'
20 A third man said, 'I just got married; I can't come.'
21 "So the servant returned and told his master what happened. The master was angry. He said, 'Hurry! Go into the streets and alleys of the town. Bring me the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.'
22 "Later, the servant said to him, 'Master, I did what you told me to do, but we still have places for more people.'
23 The master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and country roads. Tell the people there to come. I want my house to be full!
24 None of those people I invited first will get to eat any of this food.'"
25 Many people were traveling with Jesus. He said to them,
26 "If you come to me but will not leave your family, you cannot be my follower. You must love me more than your father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters—even more than your own life!
27 Whoever will not carry the cross that is given to them when they follow me cannot be my follower.
28 "If you wanted to build a building, you would first sit down and decide how much it would cost. You must see if you have enough money to finish the job.
29 If you don't do that, you might begin the work, but you would not be able to finish. And if you could not finish it, everyone would laugh at you.
30 They would say, 'This man began to build, but he was not able to finish.'
31 "If a king is going to fight against another king, first he will sit down and plan. If he has only 10,000 men, he will try to decide if he is able to defeat the other king who has 20,000 men.
32 If he thinks he cannot defeat the other king, he will send some men to ask for peace while that king's army is still far away.
33 "It is the same for each of you. You must leave everything you have to follow me. If not, you cannot be my follower.
34 "Salt is a good thing. But if the salt loses its salty taste, you can't make it salty again.
35 It is worth nothing. You can't even use it as dirt or dung. People just throw it away. "You people who hear me, listen!"

2 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , there was G2258 V-IXI-3S a certain G5100 X-NSM man G444 N-NSM before G1715 PREP him G846 P-GSM which had the dropsy G5203 A-NSM .
3 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM answering G611 V-AOP-NSM spake G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto G4314 PREP the G3588 T-APM lawyers G3544 A-APM and G2532 CONJ Pharisees G5330 N-APM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Is it lawful G1832 V-PQI-3S to heal G2323 V-PAN on the G3588 T-DSN sabbath day G4521 N-DSN ?
4 And G1161 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM held their peace G2270 V-AAI-3P . And G2532 CONJ he took G1949 V-2ADP-NSM him , and healed G2390 V-ADI-3S him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ let him go G630 V-AAI-3S ;
5 And G2532 CONJ answered G611 V-AOP-NSM them G846 P-APM , saying G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Which G5101 I-GSM of you G5216 P-2GP shall have an ass G3688 or G2228 PRT an ox G1016 N-NSM fallen G1706 V-FDI-3S into G1519 PREP a pit G5421 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ will not G3756 PRT-N straightway G2112 ADV pull him out G385 V-FAI-3S on G1722 PREP the G3588 T-GSN sabbath G4521 N-GSN day G2250 N-DSF ?
6 And G2532 CONJ they could G2480 V-AAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N answer him again G470 V-AON to G4314 PREP these things G5023 D-APN .
7 And G1161 CONJ he put forth G3004 V-IAI-3S a parable G3850 N-ASF to G4314 PREP those which were bidden G2564 V-RPP-APM , when he marked G1907 V-PAP-NSM how G4459 ADV they chose out G1586 V-IMI-3P the G3588 T-APF chief rooms G4411 N-APF ; saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM unto G4314 PREP them G846 P-APM ,
8 When G3752 CONJ thou art bidden G2564 V-APS-2S of G5259 PREP any G5100 X-GSM man to G1519 PREP a wedding G1062 N-APM , sit not down G2625 V-APS-2S in G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF highest room G4411 N-ASF ; lest G3379 ADV a more honorable man G1784 A-NSM-C than thou G4675 P-2GS be G5600 V-PXS-3S bidden G2564 V-RPP-NSM of G5259 PREP him G846 P-GSM ;
9 And G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM that G3588 T-NSM bade G2564 V-AAP-NSM thee G4571 P-2AS and G2532 CONJ him G846 P-ASM come G2064 V-2AAP-NSM and say G2046 V-FAI-3S to thee G4671 P-2DS , Give G1325 V-2AAM-2S this man G5129 D-DSM place G5117 N-ASM ; and G2532 CONJ thou G5119 ADV begin G756 V-AMS-2S with G3326 PREP shame G152 N-GSF to take G2722 V-PAN the G3588 T-ASM lowest G2078 A-ASM room G5117 N-ASM .
10 But G235 CONJ when G3752 CONJ thou art bidden G2564 V-APS-2S , go G4198 V-AOP-NSM and sit down G377 V-2AAM-2S in G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM lowest G2078 A-ASM room G5117 N-ASM ; that G2443 CONJ when G3752 CONJ he bade G2564 V-RAP-NSM thee G4571 P-2AS cometh G2064 V-2AAS-3S , he may say G2036 V-2AAS-3S unto thee G4671 P-2DS , Friend G5384 N-VSM , go up G4320 V-2AAM-2S higher G511 A-ASN : then G5119 ADV shalt thou G4671 P-2DS have G2071 V-FXI-3S worship G1391 N-NSF in the presence G1799 ADV of G3588 T-GPM them that sit at meat with G4873 V-PNP-GPM thee G4671 P-2DS .
11 For G3754 CONJ whosoever G3588 T-NSM exalteth G5312 V-PAP-NSM himself G1438 F-3ASM shall be abased G5013 V-FPI-3S ; and G2532 CONJ he that humbleth G5013 V-PAP-NSM himself G1438 F-3ASM shall be exalted G5312 V-FPI-3S .
12 Then G1161 CONJ said G3004 V-IAI-3S he G3588 T-DSM also G2532 CONJ to him that bade G2564 V-RAP-DSM him G846 P-ASM , When G3752 CONJ thou makest G4160 V-PAS-2S a dinner G712 N-NSN or G2228 PRT a supper G1173 N-ASN , call G5455 V-PAM-2S not G3361 PRT-N thy G3588 T-APM friends G5384 A-APM , nor G3366 CONJ thy G3588 T-APM brethren G80 N-APM , neither G3366 CONJ thy G3588 T-APM kinsmen G4773 A-APM , nor G3366 CONJ thy rich G4145 A-APM neighbors G1069 N-APM ; lest G3379 ADV they G846 P-NPM also G2532 CONJ bid thee again G479 V-AAS-3P , and G2532 CONJ a recompense G468 N-ASN be made G1096 V-2ADS-3S thee G4671 P-2DS .
13 But G235 CONJ when G3752 CONJ thou makest G4160 V-PAS-2S a feast G1403 N-ASF , call G2564 V-PAM-2S the poor G4434 A-APM , the maimed G376 A-APM , the lame G5560 A-APM , the blind G5185 A-APM :
14 And G2532 CONJ thou shalt be G2071 V-FXI-2S blessed G3107 A-NSM ; for G3754 CONJ they cannot G3756 PRT-N recompense G467 V-2AAN thee G4671 P-2DS : for G1063 CONJ thou G4671 P-2DS shalt be recompensed G467 V-FPI-3S at G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF resurrection G386 N-DSF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM just G1342 A-GPM .
15 And G1161 CONJ when one G5100 X-NSM of them that sat at meat with G4873 V-PNP-GPM him heard G191 V-AAP-NSM these things G5023 D-APN , he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Blessed G3107 A-NSM is he G3739 R-NSM that shall eat G5315 V-FDI-3S bread G740 in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF kingdom G932 N-DSF of God G2316 N-GSM .
16 Then G1161 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S he G3588 T-NSM unto him G846 P-DSM , A certain G5100 X-NSM man G444 N-NSM made G4160 V-AAI-3S a great G3173 A-ASN supper G1173 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ bade G2564 V-AAI-3S many G4183 A-APM :
17 And G2532 CONJ sent G649 V-AAI-3S his G3588 T-ASM servant G1401 N-ASM at supper G1173 N-GSN time G5610 N-DSF to say G2036 V-2AAN to them that were bidden G2564 V-RPP-DPM , Come G2064 V-PNM-2P ; for G3754 CONJ all things G3956 A-NPN are G2076 V-PXI-3S now G2235 ADV ready G2092 A-NPN .
18 And G2532 CONJ they all G3956 A-NPM with G575 PREP one G3391 consent began G756 V-ADI-3P to make excuse G3868 V-PNN . The G3588 T-NSM first G4413 A-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , I have bought G59 V-AAI-1S a piece of ground G68 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ I must G2192 V-PAI-1S needs G318 N-ASF go G1831 V-2AAN and G2532 CONJ see G1492 V-2AAN it G846 P-ASM : I pray G2065 V-PAI-1S thee G4571 P-2AS have G2192 V-PAM-2S me G3165 P-1AS excused G3868 V-RPP-ASM .
19 And G2532 CONJ another G2087 A-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , I have bought G59 V-AAI-1S five G4002 A-NUI yoke G2201 N-APN of oxen G1016 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ I go G4198 V-PNI-1S to prove G1381 V-AAN them G846 P-APN : I pray G2065 V-PAI-1S thee G4571 P-2AS have G2192 V-PAM-2S me G3165 P-1AS excused G3868 V-RPP-ASM .
20 And G2532 CONJ another G2087 A-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , I have married G1060 V-AAI-1S a wife G1135 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ therefore G1223 PREP I cannot G1410 V-PNI-1S come G2064 V-2AAN .
21 So G2532 CONJ that G3588 T-NSM servant G1401 N-NSM came G3854 V-2ADP-NSM , and showed G518 V-AAI-3S his G3588 T-DSM lord G2962 N-DSM these things G5023 D-APN . Then G5119 ADV the G3588 T-NSM master of the house G3617 N-NSM being angry G3710 V-APP-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S to his G3588 T-DSM servant G1401 N-DSM , Go out G1831 V-2AAM-2S quickly G5030 ADV into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APF streets G4113 N-APF and G2532 CONJ lanes G4505 N-APF of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF city G4172 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ bring in G1521 V-2AAM-2S hither G5602 ADV the G3588 T-APM poor G4434 A-APM , and G2532 CONJ the maimed G376 A-APM , and G2532 CONJ the halt G5560 A-APM , and G2532 CONJ the blind G5185 A-APM .
22 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM servant G1401 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Lord G2962 N-VSM , it is done G1096 V-2RAI-3S as G5613 ADV thou hast commanded G2004 V-AAI-2S , and G2532 CONJ yet G2089 ADV there is G2076 V-PXI-3S room G5117 N-NSM .
23 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM lord G2962 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto G4314 PREP the G3588 T-ASM servant G1401 N-ASM , Go out G1831 V-2AAM-2S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APF highways G3598 N-APF and G2532 CONJ hedges G5418 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ compel G315 V-AAM-2S them to come in G1525 V-2AAN , that G2443 CONJ my G3588 T-NSM house G3624 N-NSM may be filled G1072 V-APS-3S .
24 For G1063 CONJ I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , That G3754 CONJ none G3762 A-NSM of G3588 T-GPM those G3588 T-GPM men G435 N-GPM which were bidden G2564 V-RPP-GPM shall taste G1089 V-FDI-3S of G3588 T-GSN my G3588 T-GSN supper G1173 N-GSN .
25 And G1161 CONJ there went great multitudes with V-INI-3P him G846 P-DSM : and G2532 CONJ he turned G4762 V-2APP-NSM , and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto G4314 PREP them G846 P-APM ,
26 If any G1536 man come G2064 V-PNI-3S to G4314 PREP me G3165 P-1AS , and G2532 CONJ hate G3404 V-PAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N his G3588 T-ASM father G3962 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ mother G3384 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ wife G1135 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ children G5043 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ brethren G80 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ sisters G79 N-APF , yea G2089 ADV , and G1161 CONJ his own G1438 F-3GSM life G5590 N-ASF also G2532 CONJ , he cannot G1410 V-PNI-3S be G1511 V-PXN my G3450 P-1GS disciple G3101 N-NSM .
27 And G2532 CONJ whosoever G3748 R-NSM doth not G3756 PRT-N bear G941 V-PAI-3S his G3588 T-ASM cross G4716 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ come G2064 V-PNI-3S after G3694 ADV me G3450 P-1GS , cannot G1410 V-PNI-3S be G1511 V-PXN my G3450 P-1GS disciple G3101 N-NSM .
28 For G1063 CONJ which G5101 I-NSM of G1537 PREP you G3588 T-NSM , intending G2309 V-PAP-NSM to build G3618 V-AAN a tower G4444 N-ASM , sitteth not down G2523 V-AAP-NSM first G4412 ADV , and counteth G5585 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-ASF cost G1160 N-ASF , whether G1487 COND he have G2192 V-PAI-3S sufficient to finish G4314 it ?
29 Lest haply G3379 ADV , after G2443 CONJ he G846 P-GSM hath laid G5087 V-2AAP-GSM the foundation G2310 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ is not able G2480 V-PAP-GSM to finish G1615 V-AAN it G3588 T-NPM , all G3956 A-NPM that behold G2334 V-PAP-NPM it begin G756 V-AMS-3P to mock G1702 V-PAN him G846 P-DSM ,
30 Saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , This G3588 T-NSM man G444 N-NSM began G756 V-ADI-3S to build G3618 V-PAN , and G2532 CONJ was not able G2480 V-AAI-3S to finish G1615 V-AAN .
31 Or G2228 PRT what G5101 I-NSM king G935 N-NSM , going G4198 V-PNP-NSM to make war G4820 V-2AAN against another G2087 A-DSM king G935 N-DSM , sitteth not down G2523 V-AAP-NSM first G4412 ADV , and G2532 consulteth G1011 V-PNI-3S whether G1487 COND he be G2076 V-PXI-3S able G1415 A-NSM with G1722 PREP ten G1176 A-NUI thousand G5505 A-DPF to meet G528 V-AAN him that cometh G2064 V-PNP-DSM against G1909 PREP him G3588 T-DSM with G3326 PREP twenty G1501 A-NPM thousand G5505 A-NPF ?
32 Or else G1490 , while the other G846 P-GSM is G5607 V-PXP-GSM yet G2089 ADV a great way off G4206 ADV , he sendeth G649 V-AAP-NSM ambassadors G4242 N-ASF , and desireth G2065 V-PAI-3S conditions G3588 T-APN of G4314 PREP peace G1515 N-ASF .
33 So G3767 CONJ likewise G3779 ADV , whosoever G3956 A-NSM he be of G1537 PREP you G5216 P-2GP that G3739 R-NSM forsaketh G657 V-PMI-3S not G3756 PRT-N all G3956 A-DPN that he hath V-PAP-DPN , he cannot G1410 V-PNI-3S be G1511 V-PXN my G3450 P-1GS disciple G3101 N-NSM .
34 Salt G217 N-NSN is good G2570 A-NSN : but G1161 CONJ if G1437 COND the G3588 T-NSN salt G217 N-NSN have lost his savor G3471 V-APS-3S , wherewith G1722 PREP shall it be seasoned G741 V-FPI-3S ?
35 It is G2076 V-PXI-3S neither G3777 CONJ fit G2111 A-NSN for G1519 PREP the land G1093 N-ASF , nor yet G3777 CONJ for G1519 PREP the dunghill G2874 N-ASF ; but men cast G906 V-PAI-3P it G846 P-ASN out G1854 ADV . He that hath G2192 V-PAP-NSM ears G3775 N-APN to hear G191 V-PAN , let him hear G191 V-PAM-3S .
