Esther 3:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 After these things happened, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite. The king promoted Haman and gave him a place of honor more important than any of the other leaders.
2 All of the king's leaders at the king's gate would bow down and give honor to Haman. This is what the king commanded them to do. But Mordecai refused to bow down or give honor to Haman.
3 Then the king's leaders at the gate asked Mordecai, "Why don't you obey the king's command to bow down to Haman?"
4 Day after day, the king's leaders spoke to Mordecai, but he refused to obey the command to bow down to Haman. So they told Haman about it. They wanted to see what Haman would do about Mordecai. Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew.
5 When Haman saw that Mordecai refused to bow down to him or give him honor, he was very angry.
6 Haman had learned that Mordecai was a Jew. But he was not satisfied to only kill Mordecai. He also wanted to find a way to destroy all of Mordecai's people, the Jews, in all of Xerxes' kingdom.
7 In the twelfth year of King Xerxes' rule, in the first month, the month of Nisan, Haman threw lots to choose a special day and month. And the twelfth month, the month of Adar was chosen. (At that time the lot was called "pur.")
8 Then Haman came to King Xerxes and said, "King Xerxes, there is a certain group of people scattered among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom. They keep themselves separate from other people. Their customs are different from those of all other people. And they don't obey the king's laws. It is not right for the king to allow them to continue to live in your kingdom.
9 "If it pleases the king, I have a suggestion: Give a command to destroy these people. And I will put 750,000 pounds of silver into the king's treasury. This money could be used to pay the men who do these things."
10 So the king took the official ring off his finger and gave it to Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite. Haman was the enemy of the Jews.
11 Then the king said to Haman, "Keep the money. Do what you want with them."
12 Then on the 13 day of the first month the king's secretaries were called. They wrote out all of Haman's commands in the language of each province. And they wrote them in the language of each group of people. They wrote to the king's satraps, the governors of the different provinces, and the leaders of the different groups of people. They wrote with the authority of King Xerxes himself, and sealed the commands with the king's own ring.
13 Messengers carried the letters to all the king's provinces. The letters were the king's command to ruin, kill, and completely destroy all the Jews. This meant young people and old people, women, and little children too. The command was to kill all the Jews on a single day. The day was to be the 13 day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar. And the command was to take everything that belonged to the Jews.
14 A copy of the letters with the command was to be given as a law. It was to be a law in every province and announced to the people of every nation living in the kingdom. Then everyone would be ready for that day.
15 At the king's command the messengers hurried off. The command was given in the capital city of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Susa was in confusion.

3 Then the king H4428 D-NMS \'s servants H5650 , which H834 RPRO were in the king H4428 D-NMS \'s gate H8179 , said H559 W-VQY3MP unto Mordecai H4782 , Why H4069 IPRO transgressest H5674 thou H859 PPRO-2MS the king H4428 \'s commandment H4687 CFS ?
4 Now it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when they spoke H559 daily H3117 NMS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , and he hearkened H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR unto H413 PREP-3MP them , that they told H5046 Haman H2001 , to see H7200 L-VQFC whether Mordecai H4782 \'s matters H1697 CMP would stand H5975 : for H3588 CONJ he had told H5046 VHQ3MS them that H834 RPRO he H1931 PPRO-3MS was a Jew H3064 .
5 And when Haman H2001 saw H7200 W-VIY3MS that H3588 CONJ Mordecai H4782 bowed H3766 not H369 NPAR , nor did him reverence H7812 , then was Haman H2001 full H4390 of wrath H2534 .
6 And he thought H5869 B-CMD-3MS scorn H959 to lay H7971 hands H3027 NFS on Mordecai H4782 alone H905 L-CMS-3MS ; for H3588 CONJ they had showed H5046 him the people H5971 NMS of Mordecai H4782 : wherefore Haman H2001 sought H1245 to destroy H8045 all H3605 NMS the Jews H3064 that H834 RPRO were throughout the whole H3605 NMS kingdom H4438 CFP of Ahasuerus H325 , even the people H5971 NMS of Mordecai H4782 .
7 In the first H7223 month H2320 BD-NMS , that H1931 PPRO-3MS is , the month H2320 Nisan H5212 , in the twelfth H8147 MFS year H8141 B-CFS of king H4428 Ahasuerus H325 , they cast H5307 Pur H6332 , that H1931 PPRO-3MS is , the lot H1486 D-NMS , before H6440 L-CMP Haman H2001 from day H3117 M-NMS to day H3117 M-NMS , and from month H2320 to month H2320 , to the twelfth H8147 month , that H1931 PPRO-3MS is , the month H2320 Adar H143 .
8 And Haman H2001 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto king H4428 Ahasuerus H325 , There is H3426 a certain H259 MMS people H5971 NMS scattered abroad H6340 and dispersed H6504 among H996 PREP the people H5971 in all H3605 the provinces H4082 of thy kingdom H4438 ; and their laws H1881 are diverse H8138 from all H3605 M-CMS people H5971 NMS ; neither H369 keep H6213 they the king H4428 D-NMS \'s laws H1881 : therefore it is not H369 NPAR for the king H4428 \'s profit H7737 to suffer H5117 them .
9 If H518 PART it please H2895 the king H4428 D-NMS , let it be written H3789 that they may be destroyed H6 : and I will pay H8254 ten H6235 thousand H505 MMP talents H3603 CFS of silver H3701 NMS to H5921 PREP the hands H3027 CFD of those that have the charge H6213 of the business H4399 , to bring H935 L-VHFC it into H413 PREP the king H4428 \'s treasuries H1595 .
10 And the king H4428 D-NMS took H5493 W-VHY3MS his ring H2885 from M-PREP his hand H3027 CFS-3MS , and gave H5414 it unto Haman H2001 the son H1121 of Hammedatha H4099 the Agagite H91 , the Jews H3064 \' enemy H6887 .
11 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Haman H2001 , The silver H3701 is given H5414 to thee , the people H5971 also , to do H6213 L-VQFC with them as it seemeth good to thee H5869 .
12 Then were the king H4428 D-NMS \'s scribes H5608 called H7121 on the thirteenth H7969 day H3117 NMS of the first H7223 month H2320 BD-NMS , and there was written H3789 according to all H3605 that H834 RPRO Haman H2001 had commanded H6680 VPQ3MS unto H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS \'s lieutenants H323 , and to H413 PREP the governors H6346 that H834 RPRO were over H5921 PREP every province H4082 , and to H413 PREP the rulers H8269 CMP of every people H5971 NMS of every province H4082 according to the writing H3791 thereof , and to every people H5971 after their language H3956 ; in the name H8034 B-CMS of king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 was it written H3789 , and sealed H2856 with the king H4428 \'s ring H2885 .
13 And the letters H5612 were sent H7971 by H3027 B-CFS posts H7323 into H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the king H4428 D-NMS \'s provinces H4082 , to destroy H8045 , to kill H2026 , and to cause to perish H6 , all H3605 NMS Jews H3064 , both young H5288 and H5704 W-PREP old H2205 PFS , little children H2945 and women H802 , in one H259 MMS day H3117 B-NMS , even upon the thirteenth H7969 day of the twelfth H8147 month H2320 , which H1931 PPRO-3MS is the month H2320 Adar H143 , and to take the spoil H7998 of them for a prey H962 .
14 The copy H6572 of the writing H3791 for a commandment H1881 to be given H5414 in every H3605 B-CMS province H4082 was published H1540 unto all H3605 L-CMS people H5971 , that they should be H1961 ready H6264 against that H2088 D-PMS day H3117 .
15 The posts H7323 went out H3318 VQQ3MP , being hastened H1765 by the king H4428 D-NMS \'s commandment H1697 , and the decree H1881 was given H5414 VNQ3FS in Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 . And the king H4428 and Haman H2001 sat down H3427 VQQ3MP to drink H8354 ; but the city H5892 Shushan H7800 was perplexed H943 .
