John 10:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Jesus said, "It is certainly true that when a man enters the sheep pen, he should use the gate. If he climbs in some other way, he is a robber. He is trying to steal the sheep.
2 But the man who takes care of the sheep enters through the gate. He is the shepherd.
3 The man who guards the gate opens the gate for the shepherd. And the sheep listen to the voice of the shepherd. He calls his own sheep, using their names, and he leads them out.
4 He brings all of his sheep out. Then he goes ahead of them and leads them. The sheep follow him, because they know his voice.
5 But sheep will never follow someone they don't know. They will run away from him, because they don't know his voice."
6 Jesus told the people this story, but they did not understand what it meant.
7 So Jesus said again, "I assure you, I am the gate for the sheep.
8 All those who came before me were thieves and robbers. The sheep did not listen to them.
9 I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will be able to come in and go out. They will find everything they need.
10 A thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But I came to give life—life that is full and good.
11 "I am the good shepherd, and the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.
12 The worker who is paid to keep the sheep is different from the shepherd. The paid worker does not own the sheep. So when he sees a wolf coming, he runs away and leaves the sheep alone. Then the wolf attacks the sheep and scatters them.
13 The man runs away because he is only a paid worker. He does not really care for the sheep.
14 "I am the shepherd who cares for the sheep. I know my sheep just as the Father knows me. And my sheep know me just as I know the Father. I give my life for these sheep.

16 I have other sheep too. They are not in this flock here. I must lead them also. They will listen to my voice. In the future there will be one flock and one shepherd.
17 The Father loves me because I give my life. I give my life so that I can get it back again.
18 No one takes my life away from me. I give my own life freely. I have the right to give my life, and I have the right to get it back again. This is what the Father told me."
19 Again the Jews were divided over what Jesus was saying.
20 Many of them said, "A demon has come into him and made him crazy. Why listen to him?"
21 But others said, "These aren't the words of someone controlled by a demon. A demon cannot heal the eyes of a blind man."
22 It was winter, and the time came for the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem.
23 Jesus was in the Temple area at Solomon's Porch.
24 The Jewish leaders gathered around him. They said, "How long will you make us wonder about you? If you are the Christ, then tell us clearly."
25 Jesus answered, "I told you already, but you did not believe. I do miracles in my Father's name. These miracles show who I am.
26 But you do not believe, because you are not my sheep.
27 My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give my sheep eternal life. They will never die, and no one can take them out of my hand.
29 My Father is the one who gave them to me, and he is greater than all. No one can steal my sheep out of his hand.
30 The Father and I are one."
31 Again the Jews there picked up stones to kill Jesus.
32 But he said to them, "The many wonderful things you have seen me do are from the Father. Which of these good things are you killing me for?"
33 They answered, "We are not killing you for any good thing you did. But you say things that insult God. You are only a man, but you say you are the same as God! That is why we are trying to kill you!"
34 Jesus answered, "It is written in your law that God said, 'I said you are gods.'
35 This Scripture called those people gods—the people who received God's message. And Scripture is always true.
36 So why do you accuse me of insulting God for saying, 'I am God's Son'? I am the one God chose and sent into the world.
37 If I don't do what my Father does, then don't believe what I say.
38 But if I do what my Father does, you should believe in what I do. You might not believe in me, but you should believe in the things I do. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."
39 They tried to get Jesus again, but he escaped from them.
40 Then he went back across the Jordan River to the place where John began his work of baptizing people. Jesus stayed there,
41 and many people came to him. They said, "John never did any miraculous signs, but everything John said about this man is true."
42 And many people there believed in Jesus.

2 But G1161 CONJ he that entereth in G1525 V-PNP-NSM by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSF door G2374 N-GSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-GSF shepherd G4166 N-NSM of G3588 T-GPN the G3588 T-GPN sheep G4263 N-GPN .
3 To him G5129 D-DSM the G3588 T-NSM porter G2377 N-NSM openeth G455 V-PAI-3S ; and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN sheep G4263 N-NPN hear G191 V-PAI-3S his G3588 T-GSF voice G5456 N-GSF : and G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-APN calleth G2564 V-PAI-3S his own G2398 A-APN sheep G4263 N-APN by G2596 PREP name G3686 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ leadeth them out G1806 V-PAI-3S .

5 And G1161 CONJ a stranger G245 A-DSM will they not G3364 follow G190 V-AAS-3P , but G235 CONJ will flee G5343 V-FDI-3P from G575 PREP him G846 P-GSM : for G3754 CONJ they know G1492 V-RAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-ASF voice G5456 N-ASF of strangers G245 A-GPM .

7 Then G3767 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S Jesus G2424 N-NSM unto them G846 P-DPM again G3825 ADV , Verily G281 HEB , verily G281 HEB , I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S the G3588 T-NSF door G2374 N-NSF of G3588 T-GPN the G3588 T-GPN sheep G4263 N-GPN .
8 All G3956 A-NPM that G3745 K-NPM ever came G2064 V-2AAI-3P before G4253 me G1700 are G1526 V-PXI-3P thieves G2812 N-NPM and G2532 CONJ robbers G3027 N-NPM : but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN sheep G4263 N-NPN did not G3756 PRT-N hear G191 V-AAI-3P them G846 P-GPM .
9 I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S the G3588 T-NSF door G2374 N-NSF : by G1223 PREP me G1700 P-1GS if G1437 COND any man G5100 X-NSM enter in G1525 V-2AAS-3S , he shall be saved G4982 V-FPI-3S , and G2532 CONJ shall go in G1525 V-FDI-3S and G2532 CONJ out G1831 V-FDI-3S , and G2532 CONJ find G2147 V-FAI-3S pasture G3542 N-ASF .
10 The G3588 T-NSM thief G2812 N-NSM cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S not G3756 PRT-N , but G1508 for to G2443 CONJ steal G2813 V-AAS-3S , and G2532 CONJ to kill G2380 V-AAS-3S , and G2532 CONJ to destroy G622 V-AAS-3S : I G1473 P-1NS am come G2064 V-2AAI-1S that G2443 CONJ they might have G2192 V-PAS-3P life G2222 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ that they might have G2192 V-PAS-3P it more abundantly G4053 ADV .
11 I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S the G3588 T-NSM good G2570 A-NSM shepherd G4166 N-NSM : the G3588 T-NSM good G2570 A-NSM shepherd G4166 N-NSM giveth G5087 V-PAI-3S his G3588 T-ASF life G5590 N-ASF for G5228 PREP the G3588 T-GPN sheep G4263 N-GPN .
12 But G1161 CONJ he that is a hireling G3411 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N the G5607 V-PXP-NSM shepherd G4166 N-NSM , whose G3739 R-GSM own G2398 A-NPN the G3588 T-NPN sheep G4263 N-NPN are G1526 V-PXI-3P not G3756 PRT-N , seeth G2334 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM wolf G3074 N-ASM coming G2064 V-PNP-ASM , and G2532 CONJ leaveth G863 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APN sheep G4263 N-APN , and G2532 CONJ fleeth G5343 V-PAI-3S : and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM wolf G3074 N-NSM catcheth G726 V-PAI-3S them G846 P-APN , and G2532 CONJ scattereth G4650 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-APN sheep G4263 N-APN .
13 The G3588 T-NSM hireling G3411 N-NSM fleeth G5343 V-PAI-3S , because G3754 CONJ he is G2076 V-PXI-3S a hireling G3411 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ careth G3199 V-PQI-3S not G3756 PRT-N for G4012 PREP the G3588 T-GPN sheep G4263 N-GPN .
14 I G1473 P-1NS am G1510 V-PXI-1S the G3588 T-NSM good G2570 A-NSM shepherd G4166 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ know G1097 V-PAI-1S my G1699 S-1APN sheep , and G2532 CONJ am known G1097 V-PPI-1S of G3588 T-GPN mine G1699 S-1GPN .
15 As G2531 ADV the G3588 T-NSM Father G3962 N-NSM knoweth G1097 V-PAI-3S me G3165 P-1AS , even so know I G2504 P-1NS-C the G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM : and G2532 CONJ I lay down G5087 V-PAI-1S my G3588 T-ASF life G5590 N-ASF for G5228 PREP the G3588 T-GPN sheep G4263 N-GPN .
16 And G2532 CONJ other G243 A-APN sheep G4263 N-APN I have G2192 V-PAI-1S , which G3739 R-NPN are G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N of G1537 PREP this G3588 T-GSF fold G833 N-GSF : them also G2548 D-NPN-C I G3165 P-1AS must G1163 V-PQI-3S bring G71 V-2AAN , and G2532 CONJ they shall hear G191 V-FAI-3P my G3588 T-GSF voice G5456 N-GSF ; and G2532 CONJ there shall be G1096 V-FDI-3S one G3391 fold G4167 N-NSF , and one G1520 A-NSF shepherd G4166 N-NSM .

18 No man G3762 A-NSM taketh G142 V-PAI-3S it G846 P-ASF from G575 PREP me G1700 P-1GS , but G235 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS lay it down G5087 V-PAI-1S of G575 PREP myself G1683 F-1GSM . I have G2192 V-PAI-1S power G1849 N-ASF to lay it down G5087 V-2AAN , and G2532 CONJ I have G2192 V-PAI-1S power G1849 N-ASF to take G2983 V-2AAN it G846 P-ASF again G3825 ADV . 22 And G1161 CONJ it was G1096 V-2ADI-3S at G1722 PREP Jerusalem G2414 N-DPN the G3588 T-NPN feast of the dedication G1456 N-NPN , and G2532 CONJ it was G2258 V-IXI-3S winter G5494 N-NSM .

32 Jesus G2424 N-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S them G846 P-DPM , Many G4183 A-APN good G2570 A-APN works G2041 N-APN have I showed G1166 V-AAI-1S you G5213 P-2DP from G1537 PREP my G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM ; for G1223 PREP which G4169 I-ASN of those G846 P-GPN works G2041 N-ASN do ye stone G3034 V-PAI-2P me G3165 P-1AS ?

34 Jesus G2424 N-NSM answered G611 V-ADI-3S them G846 P-DPM , Is G2076 V-PXI-3S it not G3756 PRT-N written G1125 V-RPP-NSN in G1722 PREP your G3588 T-DSM law G3551 N-DSM , I G1473 P-1NS said G2036 V-AAI-1S , Ye are G2075 V-PXI-2P gods G2316 N-NPM
35 If G1487 COND he called G2036 V-2AAI-3S them G1565 D-APM gods G2316 N-APM , unto G4314 PREP whom G3739 R-APM the G3588 T-NSM word G3056 N-NSM of God G2316 N-GSM came G1096 V-2ADI-3S , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF Scripture G1124 N-NSF cannot G1410 V-PNI-3S be broken G3089 V-APN ;
36 Say G3004 V-PAI-2P ye G5210 P-2NP of him , whom G3739 R-ASM the G3588 T-NSM Father G3962 N-NSM hath sanctified G37 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ sent G649 V-AAI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM world G2889 N-ASM , Thou blasphemest G987 V-PAI-2S ; because G3754 CONJ I said G3004 V-PAI-2P , I am G1510 V-PXI-1S the G3588 T-GSM Son G5207 N-NSM of God G2316 N-GSM ?

38 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND I do G4160 V-PAI-1S , though G2579 COND-C ye believe G4100 V-PAS-2P not G3361 PRT-N me G1698 P-1DS , believe G4100 V-AAM-2P the G3588 T-DPN works G2041 N-DPN : that G2443 CONJ ye may know G1097 V-2AAS-2P , and G2532 CONJ believe G4100 V-AAS-2P , that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Father G3962 N-NSM is in G1722 PREP me G1698 P-1DS , and I G2504 P-1NS-C in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM .
39 Therefore G3767 CONJ they sought G2212 V-IAI-3P again G3825 ADV to take G4084 V-AAN him G846 P-ASM : but G2532 CONJ he escaped G1831 V-2AAI-3S out of G1537 PREP their G3588 T-GSF hand G5495 N-GSF ,
40 And G2532 CONJ went away G565 V-2AAI-3S again G3825 ADV beyond G4008 ADV Jordan G2446 N-GSM into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASM place G5117 N-ASM where G3699 ADV John G2491 N-NSM at first G4412 baptized G907 V-PAP-NSM ; and G2532 CONJ there G1563 ADV he abode G3306 V-AAI-3S .
41 And G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM resorted G2064 V-2AAI-3P unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ said G3004 V-IAI-3P , John G2491 N-NSM did G4160 V-AAI-3S no G3762 A-ASN miracle G4592 N-ASN : but G1161 CONJ all things G3956 A-NPN that G3745 K-APN John G2491 N-NSM spake G2036 V-2AAI-3S of G4012 PREP this man G5127 D-GSM were G2258 V-IXI-3S true G227 A-NPN .
42 And G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM believed G4100 V-AAI-3P on G1519 PREP him G846 P-ASM there G1563 ADV .
