Jeremiah 35:7 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 During the time when Jehoiakim was king of Judah, the message from the Lord came to Jeremiah. Jehoiakim was the son of King Josiah. This was the message from the Lord:
2 "Jeremiah, go to the Recabite family. Invite them to come to one of the side rooms of the Temple of the Lord. Offer them wine to drink."
3 So I went to get Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, who was the son of Habazziniah. And I got all of Jaazaniah's brothers and sons and the whole family of the Recabites together.
4 Then I brought them into the Temple of the Lord. We went into the room of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah. Hanan was a man of God. The room was next to the room where the princes of Judah stay. It was over the room of Maaseiah son of Shallum. Maaseiah was the doorkeeper in the Temple.
5 Then I put some bowls full of wine and some cups in front of the Recabite family. And I said to them, "Drink some wine."
6 But the Recabite family answered, "We never drink wine. We never drink it because our ancestor Jonadab son of Recab gave us this command: 'You and your descendants must never drink wine.
7 Also you must never build houses, plant seeds, or plant vineyards. You must never do any of those things. You must live only in tents. If you do that, you will live a long time in the land where you move from place to place.'
8 So we have obeyed everything our ancestor Jonadab commanded us. None of us ever drinks wine, and neither do our wives, sons, or daughters.
9 We never build houses to live in, we never own vineyards or fields, and we never plant crops.
10 We have lived in tents and have obeyed everything our ancestor Jonadab commanded us.
11 But when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked the country of Judah, we did go into Jerusalem. We said to each other, 'Come, we must enter the city of Jerusalem so that we can escape the Babylonian army and the Aramean army.' So we have stayed in Jerusalem."
12 Then the message from the Lord came to Jeremiah:
13 "This is what the Lord All- Powerful, the God of Israel, says: Jeremiah, go and tell this message to the men of Judah and to the people of Jerusalem: 'You should learn a lesson and obey my message,' This message is from the Lord.
14 'Jonadab son of Recab ordered his sons not to drink wine, and that command has been obeyed. Until today the descendants of Jonadab obeyed their ancestor's command. They do not drink wine. But I am the Lord. And I have given you people of Judah messages again and again, but you did not obey me.
15 I sent my servants the prophets to you people of Israel and Judah. I sent them to you again and again. They said to you, "Each of you must stop doing evil things. You must be good. Don't follow other gods. Don't worship or serve them. If you obey me, you will live in the land I have given to you and your ancestors." But you have not paid attention to my message.
16 The descendants of Jonadab obeyed the commands that their ancestor gave them, but the people of Judah have not obeyed me.'
17 "So this is what the Lord God All- Powerful, the God of Israel, says: 'I said that many bad things would happen to Judah and Jerusalem. I will soon make all those things happen. I spoke to the people, but they refused to listen. I called out to them, but they did not answer me.'"
18 Then Jeremiah said to the Recabite family, "This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: 'You have obeyed the commands of your ancestor Jonadab. You have followed all of his teachings. You have done everything he commanded.'
19 So the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says, 'There will always be a descendant of Jonadab son of Recab to serve me.'"

2 Go H1980 VQFA unto H413 PREP the house H1004 CMS of the Rechabites H7397 , and speak unto H1696 them , and bring H935 them into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , into H413 PREP one H259 OFS of the chambers H3957 , and give them wine H3196 to drink H8248 .
3 Then I took H3947 Jaazaniah H2970 the son H1121 of Jeremiah H3414 , the son H1121 CMP-3MS of Habaziniah H2262 , and his brethren H251 NMP-3MS , and all H3605 NMS his sons H1121 , and the whole H3605 NMS house H1004 CMS of the Rechabites H7397 ;
4 And I brought H935 them into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , into H413 PREP the chamber H3957 of the sons H1121 CMS of Hanan H2605 , the son H1121 CMS of Igdaliah H3012 , a man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP , which H834 RPRO was by H681 the chamber H3957 of the princes H8269 , which H834 RPRO was above H4605 the chamber H3957 of Maaseiah H4641 the son H1121 CMS of Shallum H7967 , the keeper H8104 of the door H5592 :
5 And I set H5414 before H6440 L-CMP the sons H1121 of the house H1004 CMS of the Rechabites H7397 pots H1375 full H4392 of wine H3196 NMS , and cups H3563 , and I said H559 W-VQY1MS unto H413 PREP-3MP them , Drink H8354 ye wine H3196 .
6 But they said H559 W-VQY3MP , We will drink H8354 no H3808 NADV wine H3196 : for H3588 CONJ Jonadab H3122 the son H1121 of Rechab H7394 our father H1 commanded H6680 VPQ3MS us , saying H559 L-VQFC , Ye shall drink H8354 no H3808 NADV wine H3196 NMS , neither ye H859 PPRO-2MS , nor your sons H1121 forever H5704 PREP :
7 Neither H3808 ADV shall ye build H1129 house H1004 , nor H3808 ADV sow H2232 seed H2233 , nor H3808 ADV plant H5193 vineyard H3754 W-NMS , nor H3808 W-NADV have H1961 VQY3MS any : but H3588 CONJ all H3605 NMS your days H3117 ye shall dwell H3427 in tents H168 ; that H4616 L-CONJ ye may live H2421 many H7227 AMP days H3117 NMP in PREP the land H127 D-NFS where H834 RPRO ye H859 PPRO-2MS be strangers H1481 .
8 Thus have we obeyed H8085 the voice H6963 B-NMS of Jonadab H3082 the son H1121 of Rechab H7394 our father H1 in all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO he hath charged H6680 us , to drink H8354 no H1115 L-NPAR wine H3196 NMS all H3605 NMS our days H3117 CMP-1MP , we H587 PPRO-1MP , our wives H802 , our sons H1121 , nor our daughters H1323 ;
9 Nor H1115 to build H1129 houses H1004 NMP for us to dwell H3427 in : neither H3808 NADV have H1961 VQY3MS we vineyard H3754 W-NMS , nor field H7704 , nor seed H2233 :
10 But we have dwelt H3427 in tents H168 , and have obeyed H8085 , and done H6213 according to all H3605 K-NMS that H834 RPRO Jonadab H3122 our father H1 commanded H6680 us .
11 But it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS came up H5927 B-CFP into H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS , that we said H559 , Come H935 , and let us go H935 to Jerusalem H3389 for fear H6440 M-CMP of the army H2428 of the Chaldeans H3778 , and for fear H6440 of the army H2428 of the Syrians H758 EMS : so we dwell H3427 at Jerusalem H3389 .
12 Then came H1961 W-VPY3MS the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS unto H413 PREP Jeremiah H3414 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
13 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Go H1980 and tell H559 the men H376 L-NMS of Judah H3063 and the inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem H3389 , Will ye not H3808 D-NPAR receive H3947 instruction H4148 to hearken H8085 to H413 PREP my words H1697 CMP-1MS ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
14 The words H1697 CMP of Jonadab H3082 the son H1121 CMP-3MS of Rechab H7394 , that H834 RPRO he commanded H6680 VPQ3MS his sons H1121 CMP-3MS not H1115 L-NPAR to drink H8354 wine H3196 NMS , are performed H6965 ; for unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS they drink H8354 none H3808 W-NPAR , but H3588 CONJ obey H8085 VQQ3MP their father H1 CMS-3MP \'s commandment H4687 CFS : notwithstanding I H595 W-PPRO-1MS have spoken H1696 VPQ1MS unto H413 you , rising early H7925 and speaking H1696 ; but ye hearkened H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR unto H413 me .
15 I have sent H7971 also unto H413 PREP you all H3605 NMS my servants H5650 the prophets H5030 , rising up early H7925 and sending H7971 them , saying H559 L-VQFC , Return H7725 ye now H4994 IJEC every man H376 NMS from his evil H7451 D-AFS way H1870 M-CMS-3MS , and amend H3190 your doings H4611 , and go H1980 not H408 W-NPAR after H310 PREP other H312 AMP gods H430 EDP to serve H5647 them , and ye shall dwell H3427 in H413 PREP the land H127 D-NFS which H834 RPRO I have given H5414 VQQ1MS to you and to your fathers H1 : but ye have not H3808 W-NPAR inclined H5186 your ear H241 , nor H3808 W-NPAR hearkened H8085 unto H413 PREP me .
16 Because H3588 CONJ the sons H1121 of Jonadab H3082 the son H1121 of Rechab H7394 have performed H6965 the commandment H4687 CFS of their father H1 CMS-3MP , which H834 RPRO he commanded H6680 them ; but this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 hath not H3808 NADV hearkened H8085 VQQ3MP unto H413 me :
17 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Behold H2009 , I will bring H935 VHPMS upon H413 PREP Judah H3063 and upon H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem H3389 all H3605 NMS the evil H7451 D-AFS that H834 RPRO I have pronounced H1696 VPQ1MS against H5921 PREP-3MP them : because H3282 ADV I have spoken H1696 VPQ1MS unto H413 PREP them , but they have not H3808 W-NPAR heard H8085 ; and I have called H7121 unto them , but they have not H3808 W-NPAR answered H6030 .
18 And Jeremiah H3414 said H559 VQQ3MS unto the house H1004 of the Rechabites H7397 , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Because H3283 ye have obeyed H8085 the commandment H4687 CFS of Jonadab H3082 your father H1 , and kept H8104 all H3605 NMS his precepts H4687 , and done H6213 according unto all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO he hath commanded H6680 VPQ3MS you :
19 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Jonadab H3122 the son H1121 of Rechab H7394 shall not H3808 ADV want H3772 VNI3MS a man H376 NMS to stand H5975 before H6440 L-CMP me forever H3117 D-NMP .
