Isaiah 14:22 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The Lord will again show his love to Jacob. He will again choose the people of Israel. He will give them their land. Then the non-Israelites will join the Israelites, and both will become one family—Jacob's family.
2 Those nations will bring the Israelites back to their land. The men and women from the other nations will become slaves to Israel. In the past, those people forced the Israelites to become their slaves. But in the future the Israelites will defeat those nations, and Israel will then rule over them.
3 In the past, you were slaves. People forced you to work hard. But the Lord will take away the hard work you were forced to do.
4 At that time you will begin to sing this song about the king of Babylon: The king was cruel when he ruled us, but now his rule is finished.
5 The Lord breaks the scepter of evil rulers; he takes away their power.
6 In anger, the king of Babylon beat the people. He never stopped beating them. He was an evil ruler who ruled in anger. He never stopped hurting people.
7 But now, the whole country rests and is quiet. Now the people begin to celebrate.
8 You were an evil king, and now you are finished. Even the pine trees are happy. The cedar trees of Lebanon rejoice. They say, "The king chopped us down, but now the king has fallen, and he will never stand again."
9 The place of death is excited that you are coming. Sheol is waking the spirits of all the leaders of the earth for you. Sheol is making the kings stand up from their thrones to meet you.
10 They will make fun of you, saying, "Now you are as dead as we are. Now you are just like us."
11 Your pride has been sent down to Sheol. The music from your harps announces the coming of your proud spirit. Maggots will be the bed you lie on, and other worms will cover your body like a blanket.
12 You were like the morning star, but you have fallen from the sky. In the past, all the nations on earth bowed down before you, but now you have been cut down.
13 You always told yourself, "I will go to the skies above. I will put my throne above God's stars. I will sit on Zaphon, the holy mountain where the gods meet.
14 I will go up to the altar above the tops of the clouds. I will be like God Most High."
15 But that did not happen. You were brought down to the deep pit—Sheol, the place of death.
16 People will come to look at your dead body. They will think about you and say, "Is this the same man who caused great fear in all the kingdoms on earth,
17 who destroyed cities and turned the land into a desert, who captured people in war and would not let them go home?"
18 Kings of the earth are buried in glory, each king with his own grave.
19 But you were thrown out of your grave, like a branch cut from a tree and thrown away. You are like a dead man who fell in battle, trampled by the feet of other soldiers. Now you look like any other dead man wrapped in burial clothes.
20 Other kings have their own graves, but you will not join them, because you ruined your own country and killed your own people. So your wicked descendants will be stopped.
21 Prepare to kill his children, because their father is guilty. His children will never take control of the land. They will never fill the world with their cities.
22 The Lord All-Powerful said, "I will stand and fight against those people. I will destroy the famous city, Babylon. I will destroy all the people there. I will destroy their children, their grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren." The Lord himself said this.
23 "I will change Babylon. It will be a place for animals, not people. It will be a swamp. I will use the 'broom of destruction' to sweep Babylon away." The Lord All-Powerful said this.
24 The Lord All-Powerful made this promise: "This will happen exactly as I meant for it to happen. It will happen just the way I planned.
25 I will destroy the king of Assyria in my country. I will walk on him on my mountains. He forced my people to be his slaves; he put a yoke on their necks. But that pole will be taken off Judah's neck, and that burden will be removed.
26 This is what I plan to do for this land. I will use my power to punish all those nations."
27 When the Lord makes a plan, no one can keep it from happening. When the Lord raises his arm to punish people, no one can stop him.
28 This message was given the year King Ahaz died:
29 Country of Philistia, don't be happy that the king who beat you is now dead. It is true that his rule has ended, but his son will come and rule. It will be like one snake giving birth to a more dangerous one. The new king will be like a quick and dangerous snake to you.
30 But even the poorest of my people will be able to eat safely. And their children will be able to lie down and feel safe. But I will make your family die from hunger, and your enemy will kill anyone who survives.
31 People near the city gates, cry! People in the city, cry out! Everyone in Philistia, your courage will melt like hot wax. Look to the north! There is a cloud of dust. An army is coming, and everyone in that army is strong.
32 But what will the messengers from that nation report about us? They will say, "The Lord made Zion strong, and his poor people went there for safety."
1 For H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will have mercy H7355 on Jacob H3290 , and will yet H5750 ADV choose H977 Israel H3478 , and set H5117 them in H5921 PREP their own land H127 : and the strangers H1616 shall be joined H3867 with H5921 PREP them , and they shall cleave H5596 to H5921 PREP the house H1004 CMS of Jacob H3290 .
2 And the people H5971 NMP shall take H3947 them , and bring H935 them to H413 PREP their place H4725 : and the house H1004 of Israel H3478 shall possess H5157 them in H5921 PREP the land H127 of the LORD H3068 EDS for servants H5650 and handmaids H8198 : and they shall take H1961 W-VQQ3MS them captives H7617 , whose captives H7617 they were ; and they shall rule over H7287 their oppressors H5065 .
3 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS in the day H3117 B-NMS that the LORD H3068 EDS shall give thee rest H5117 from thy sorrow H6090 , and from thy fear H7267 , and from H4480 W-PREP the hard H7186 bondage H5656 wherein H834 RPRO thou wast made to serve H5647 ,
4 That thou shalt take up H5375 this H2088 D-PMS proverb H4912 against H5921 PREP the king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS , and say H559 , How H349 hath the oppressor H5065 ceased H7673 VQQ3MS ! the golden city H4062 ceased H7673 VQQ3MS !
5 The LORD H3068 EDS hath broken H7665 the staff H4294 of the wicked H7563 AMP , and the scepter H7626 CMS of the rulers H4910 .
6 He who smote H5221 the people H5971 NMP in wrath H5678 with a continual stroke H1115 PREP , he that ruled H7287 the nations H1471 NMP in anger H639 , is persecuted H4783 , and none H1097 ADV hindereth H2820 .
7 The whole H3605 NMS earth H776 D-GFS is at rest H5117 , and is quiet H8252 : they break forth H6476 into singing H7440 .
8 Yea H1571 CONJ , the fir trees H1265 rejoice H8055 at thee , and the cedars H730 of Lebanon H3844 , saying , Since H227 thou art laid down H7901 , no H3808 ADV feller H3772 is come up H5927 VQY3MS against H5921 us .
9 Hell H7585 NMS from beneath H8478 M-CFS is moved H7264 for thee to meet H7122 thee at thy coming H935 : it stirreth up H5782 the dead H7496 for thee , even all H3605 NMS the chief ones H6260 of the earth H776 NFS ; it hath raised up H6965 from their thrones H3678 all H3605 NMS the kings H4428 CMP of the nations H1471 .
10 All H3605 CMS-3MP they shall speak H6030 and say H559 W-VQY3MP unto thee , Art thou H859 PPRO-2MS also H1571 CONJ become weak H2470 as we ? art thou become like H4911 unto H413 PREP-2MS us ?
11 Thy pomp H1347 is brought down H3381 to the grave H7585 NMS , and the noise H1998 of thy viols H5035 : the worm H7415 NFS is spread H3331 under H8478 thee , and the worms H8438 NFS cover H4374 thee .
12 How H349 art thou fallen H5307 from heaven H8064 , O Lucifer H1966 , son H1121 of the morning H7837 ! how art thou cut down H1438 to the ground H776 LD-NFS , which didst weaken H2522 the nations H1471 NMP !
13 For thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS hast said H559 VQQ2MS in thine heart H3824 , I will ascend H5927 into heaven H8064 D-NMD , I will exalt H7311 my throne H3678 above H4605 the stars H3556 of God H410 EDS : I will sit H3427 W-VQY1MS also upon the mount H2022 of the congregation H4150 NMS , in the sides H3411 of the north H6828 :
14 I will ascend H5927 above H5921 PREP the heights H1116 CMP of the clouds H5645 NCS ; I will be like H1819 the most High H5945 .
15 Yet H389 ADV thou shalt be brought down H3381 to H413 PREP hell H7585 NMS , to H413 PREP the sides H3411 CFS of the pit H953 NMS .
16 They that see H7200 thee shall narrowly look H7688 upon H413 PREP-2MS thee , and consider H995 thee , saying , Is this H2088 the man H376 D-NMS that made the earth H776 D-GFS to tremble H7264 , that did shake H7493 kingdoms H4467 ;
17 That made H7760 VQQ3MS the world H8398 NFS as a wilderness H4057 , and destroyed H2040 the cities H5892 thereof ; that opened H6605 not H3808 NADV the house H1004 of his prisoners H615 ?
18 All H3605 NMS the kings H4428 CMP of the nations H1471 NMP , even all H3605 NMS of them , lie H7901 in glory H3519 , every one H376 NMS in his own house H1004 .
19 But thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS art cast H7993 out of thy grave H6913 like an abominable H8581 VNPMS branch H5342 , and as the raiment H3830 NMS of those that are slain H2026 , thrust through H2944 with a sword H2719 NFS , that go down H3381 to H413 PREP the stones H68 CMP of the pit H953 ; as a carcass H6297 trodden under feet H947 .
20 Thou shalt not H3808 ADV be joined H3161 with H854 PREP-3MP them in burial H6900 , because H3588 CONJ thou hast destroyed H7843 thy land H776 , and slain H2026 thy people H5971 : the seed H2233 NMS of evildoers H7489 VHPMP shall never H3808 ADV be renowned H7121 VNY3MS .
21 Prepare H3559 slaughter H4293 for his children H1121 L-CMP-3MS for the iniquity H5771 of their fathers H1 CMP-3MP ; that they do not H1077 ADV rise H6965 , nor possess H3423 the land H776 NFS , nor fill H4390 the face H6440 of the world H8398 NFS with cities H5892 .
22 For I will rise up H6965 against H5921 PREP-3MP them , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , and cut off H3772 from Babylon H894 the name H8034 CMS , and remnant H7605 , and son H5209 , and nephew H5220 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
23 I will also make H7760 it a possession H4180 for the bittern H7090 , and pools H98 of water H4325 NMD : and I will sweep H2894 it with the broom H4292 of destruction H8045 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 .
24 The LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 hath sworn H7650 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Surely H518 PART as H834 K-RPRO I have thought H1819 , so H3651 ADV shall it come to pass H1961 ; and as H834 I have purposed H3289 , so shall it H1931 PPRO-3FS stand H6965 :
25 That I will break H7665 the Assyrian H804 GFS in my land H776 , and upon H5921 M-PREP my mountains H2022 tread him under foot H947 : then shall his yoke H5923 depart H5493 W-VQPMS from off H5921 M-PREP them , and his burden H5448 depart H5493 from off H5921 M-PREP their shoulders H7926 .
26 This H2063 DPRO is the purpose H6098 that is purposed H3289 upon H5921 PREP the whole H3605 NMS earth H776 D-GFS : and this H2063 is the hand H3027 that is stretched out H5186 upon H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS the nations H1471 .
27 For H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 hath purposed H3289 , and who H4310 W-IPRO shall disannul H6565 it ? and his hand H3027 is stretched out H5186 , and who H4310 W-IPRO shall turn it back H7725 ?
28 In the year H8141 B-CFS that king H4428 D-NMS Ahaz H271 died H4194 was H1961 VQQ3MS this H2088 D-PMS burden H4853 .
29 Rejoice H8055 not H408 ADV thou , whole H3605 Philistia H6429 , because H3588 CONJ the rod H7626 CMS of him that H3588 CONJ smote H5221 thee is broken H7665 : for out of the serpent\'s root H8328 M-NMS shall come forth H3318 VQY3MS a cockatrice H6848 , and his fruit H6529 shall be a fiery flying serpent H8314 .
30 And the firstborn H1060 of the poor H1800 AMP shall feed H7462 , and the needy H34 shall lie down H7257 in safety H983 L-NMS : and I will kill H4191 thy root H8328 with famine H7458 , and he shall slay H2026 thy remnant H7611 .
31 Howl H3213 , O gate H8179 NMS ; cry H2199 , O city H5892 GFS ; thou , whole H3605 Philistia H6429 , art dissolved H4127 : for H3588 CONJ there shall come H935 VQPMS from the north H6828 M-NFS a smoke H6227 NMS , and none H369 W-NPAR shall be alone H909 in his appointed times H4151 .
32 What H4100 shall one then answer H6030 the messengers H4397 of the nation H1471 ? That H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath founded H3245 Zion H6726 , and the poor H6041 of his people H5971 shall trust H2620 in it .
