Genesis 26:15 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Now there was a famine. This was like the famine that happened during Abraham's life. So Isaac went to the town of Gerar, to King Abimelech of the Philistines.
2 The Lord spoke to Isaac and said, "Don't go down to Egypt. Live in the land that I commanded you to live in.
3 Stay in this land, and I will be with you. I will bless you. I will give you and your family all these lands. I will do what I promised to Abraham your father.
4 I will make your family as many as the stars of heaven, and I will give all these lands to your family. Through your descendants every nation on earth will be blessed.
5 I will do this because your father Abraham obeyed my words and did what I said. He obeyed my commands, my laws, and my rules."
6 So Isaac settled in Gerar.
7 His wife Rebekah was very beautiful. The men of that place asked Isaac about Rebekah. He said, "She is my sister." He was afraid to tell them Rebekah was his wife. He was afraid the men would kill him so that they could have her.
8 After Isaac had lived there a long time, Abimelech looked out of his window and saw Isaac and his wife enjoying one another.
9 Abimelech called for Isaac and said, "This woman is your wife. Why did you tell us that she was your sister?" Isaac said to him, "I was afraid that you would kill me so that you could have her."
10 Abimelech said, "You have done a bad thing to us. One of our men might have had sex with your wife. Then he would be guilty of a great sin."
11 So Abimelech gave a warning to all the people. He said, "No one must hurt this man or this woman. If anyone hurts them, they will be killed."
12 Isaac planted fields in that place, and that year he gathered a great harvest. The Lord blessed him very much.
13 Isaac became rich. He gathered more and more wealth until he became a very rich man.
14 He had many flocks and herds of animals. He also had many slaves. All the Philistines were jealous of him.
15 So they destroyed all the wells that Isaac's father Abraham and his servants had dug many years before. They filled them with sand.
16 Abimelech said to Isaac, "Leave our country. You have become much more powerful than we are."
17 So Isaac left that place and camped near the little river of Gerar. He stayed there and lived.
18 Long before this time, Abraham had dug many wells. After he died, the Philistines filled the wells with sand. So Isaac went back and dug those wells again. He gave them the same names his father had given them.
19 Isaac's servants also dug a well near the little river and found fresh water.
20 But the men who herded sheep in the Valley of Gerar argued with Isaac's servants. They said, "This water is ours." So Isaac named that well Esek. He gave it that name because it was the place where they had argued with him.
21 Then Isaac's servants dug another well. But there was an argument over this well too. So Isaac named that well Sitnah.
22 Isaac moved from there and dug another well. No one came to argue about this well. So Isaac named it Rehoboth. He said, "Now the Lord has found a place for us. We will grow and be successful in this place."
23 From there Isaac went to Beersheba.
24 The Lord spoke to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Don't be afraid. I am with you, and I will bless you. I will make your family great. I will do this because of my servant Abraham."
25 So Isaac built an altar and worshiped the Lord in that place. He set up camp there, and his servants dug a well.
26 Abimelech came from Gerar to see Isaac. He brought with him Ahuzzath, his advisor, and Phicol, the commander of his army.
27 Isaac asked, "Why have you come to see me? You were not friendly to me before. You even forced me to leave your country."
28 They answered, "Now we know that the Lord is with you. We think that we should make an agreement. We want you to make a promise to us.
29 We did not hurt you; now you should promise not to hurt us. We sent you away, but we sent you away in peace. Now it is clear that the Lord has blessed you."
30 So Isaac gave a party for them. They all ate and drank.
31 Early the next morning each man made a promise and a vow. Then the men left in peace.
32 On that day Isaac's servants came and told him about the well they had dug. The servants said, "We found water in that well."
33 So Isaac named it Shibah. And that city is still called Beersheba.
34 When Esau was 40 years old, he married two Hittite women. One was Judith the daughter of Beeri. The other was Basemath the daughter of Elon.
35 These marriages made Isaac and Rebekah very unhappy.

And Isaac H3327 went H1980 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Abimelech H40 king H4428 NMS of the Philistines H6430 TMS unto Gerar H1642 .
2 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 W-VNY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Go not down H3381 into Egypt H4714 TFS-3FS ; dwell H7931 in the land H776 B-NFS which H834 RPRO I shall tell H559 W-VQY3MS thee of H413 :
3 Sojourn H1481 in this H2063 D-DFS land H776 B-NFS , and I will be H1961 with H5973 PREP-2MS thee , and will bless H1288 thee ; for H3588 CONJ unto thee , and unto thy seed H2233 WL-CMS-2MS , I will give H5414 VQY1MS all H3605 NMS these H411 countries H776 , and I will perform H6965 the oath H7621 which H834 RPRO I swore H7650 unto Abraham H85 thy father H1 ;
4 And I will make thy seed H2233 CMS-2MS to multiply H7235 as the stars H3556 of heaven H8064 D-NMD , and will give H5414 unto thy seed H2233 L-CMS-2MS all H3605 NMS these H411 countries H776 ; and in thy seed H2233 shall all H3605 NMS the nations H1471 of the earth H776 D-GFS be blessed H1288 ;
5 Because H6118 that H834 RPRO Abraham H85 obeyed H8085 my voice H6963 , and kept H8104 my charge H4931 , my commandments H4687 , my statutes H2708 , and my laws H8451 .
6 And Isaac H3327 dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MS in Gerar H1642 :
7 And the men H376 CMP of the place H4725 D-NMS asked H7592 him of his wife H802 ; and he said H559 W-VQY3MS , She H1931 PPRO-3FS is my sister H269 CFS-1MS : for H3588 CONJ he feared H3372 VQQ3MS to say H559 W-VQY3MS , She is my wife H802 CFS-1MS ; lest H6435 CONJ , said he , the men H376 CMP of the place H4725 D-NMS should kill H2026 me for H5921 PREP Rebekah H7259 ; because H3588 CONJ she H1931 was fair H2896 to look upon H4758 NMS .
8 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when H3588 CONJ he had been there H8033 ADV a long H748 time H3117 D-NMP , that Abimelech H40 king H4428 NMS of the Philistines H6430 TMS looked out H8259 at H1157 PREP a window H2474 , and saw H7200 W-VIY3MS , and , behold H2009 IJEC , Isaac H3327 was sporting H6711 with Rebekah H7259 his wife H802 .
9 And Abimelech H40 called H7121 W-VQY3MS Isaac H3327 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , of a surety H389 ADV she H1931 PPRO-3FS is thy wife H802 CFS-2MS : and how H349 W-IJEC saidst H559 W-VQY3MS thou , She H1931 PPRO-3FS is my sister H269 CFS-1MS ? And Isaac H3327 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Because H3588 CONJ I said H559 W-VQY3MS , Lest H6435 CONJ I die H4191 VQY1MS for H5921 her .
10 And Abimelech H40 said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IPRO is this H2063 DPRO-3FS thou hast done H6213 VQQ2MS unto us ? one H259 of the people H5971 might lightly H4592 K-AMS have lain H7901 VQQ3MS with H854 PREP thy wife H802 CFS-2MS , and thou shouldest have brought H935 guiltiness H817 upon H5921 PREP-1MP us .
11 And Abimelech H40 charged H6680 W-VPY3MS all H3605 NMS his people H5971 , saying H559 L-VQFC , He that toucheth H5060 this H2088 D-PMS man H376 or his wife H802 shall surely be put to death H4191 VQFA .
12 Then Isaac H3327 sowed H2232 in that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS land H776 B-NFS , and received H4672 W-VQY3MS in the same H1931 D-PPRO-3FS year H8141 a hundredfold H3967 MFS : and the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS blessed H1288 him .
13 And the man H376 D-NMS waxed great H1431 , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS forward H1980 VQFA , and grew H1432 until H5704 PREP he became very great H1431 VQQ3MS :
14 For he had H1961 W-VPY3MS possession H4735 CMS of flocks H6629 NMS , and possession H4735 of herds H1241 , and great store H7227 AFS of servants H5657 W-NFS : and the Philistines H6430 envied H7065 him .
15 For all H3605 W-CMS the wells H875 which H834 RPRO his father H1 CMS-3MS \'s servants H5650 had digged H2658 in the days H3117 B-CMP of Abraham H85 his father H1 CMS-3MS , the Philistines H6430 TMS had stopped H5640 them , and filled H4390 them with earth H6083 .
16 And Abimelech H40 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Isaac H3327 , Go H1980 VQI2MS from us ; for H3588 CONJ thou art much mightier H6105 than H4480 M-PREP-3MS we .
17 And Isaac H3327 departed H1980 W-VQY3MS thence H8033 M-ADV , and pitched his tent H2583 in the valley H5158 of Gerar H1642 , and dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MS there H8033 ADV .
18 And Isaac H3327 digged H2658 again H7725 the wells H875 of water H4325 D-CMS , which H834 RPRO they had digged H2658 in the days H3117 B-CMP of Abraham H85 his father H1 CMS-3MS ; for the Philistines H6430 TMS had stopped H5640 them after H310 PREP the death H4194 of Abraham H85 : and he called H7121 W-VQY3MS their names H8034 CFP after the names H8034 by which H834 RPRO his father H1 had called H7121 W-VQY3MS them .
19 And Isaac H3327 \'s servants H5650 digged H2658 in the valley H5158 , and found H4672 there H8033 ADV a well H875 of springing H2416 NMP water H4325 OMD .
20 And the herdsmen H7462 of Gerar H1642 did strive H7378 with H5973 PREP Isaac H3327 \'s herdsmen H7462 , saying H559 L-VQFC , The water H4325 D-OMD is ours : and he called H7121 W-VQY3MS the name H8034 of the well H875 Esek H6230 ; because H3588 CONJ they strove H6229 with H5973 PREP-3MS him .
21 And they digged H2658 another H312 well H875 , and strove H7378 for H5921 PREP-3FS that also H1571 CONJ : and he called H7121 W-VQY3MS the name H8034 CMS-3FS of it Sitnah H7856 .
22 And he removed H6275 W-VHY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV , and digged H2658 another H312 well H875 ; and for H5921 PREP-3FS that they strove H7378 not H3808 W-NPAR : and he called H7121 W-VQY3MS the name H8034 CMS-3FS of it Rehoboth H7344 ; and he said H559 W-VQY3MS , For H3588 CONJ now H6258 ADV the LORD H3068 EDS hath made room H7337 for us , and we shall be fruitful H6509 in the land H776 B-GFS .
23 And he went up H5927 W-VHY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV to Beer H884 - sheba .
24 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 W-VNY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him the same H1931 D-PPRO-3MS night H3915 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , I H595 PPRO-1MS am the God H430 CDP of Abraham H85 thy father H1 NMS : fear H3372 not H408 NPAR , for H3588 CONJ I H595 PPRO-1MS am with H854 PART-2MS thee , and will bless H1288 thee , and multiply H7235 thy seed H2233 CMS-2MS for H5668 B-NMS my servant H5650 Abraham H85 \'s sake .
25 And he built H1129 W-VQY3MS an altar H4196 NMS there H8033 ADV , and called H7121 W-VQY3MS upon the name H8034 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and pitched H5186 his tent H168 there H8033 ADV : and there H8033 ADV Isaac H3327 \'s servants H5650 digged H3738 a well H875 .
26 Then Abimelech H40 went H1980 VQQ3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him from Gerar H1642 , and Ahuzzath H276 one of his friends H4828 , and Phichol H6369 the chief captain H8269 of his army H6635 .
27 And Isaac H3327 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS them , Wherefore H4069 IPRO come H935 ye to H413 me , seeing ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP hate H8130 me , and have sent me away H7971 from H4480 you ?
28 And they said H559 W-VQY3MP , We saw certainly H7200 that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS was H1961 VQQ3MS with H5973 PREP-2FS thee : and we said H559 , Let there be H1961 VQI3FS now H4994 IJEC an oath H423 between H996 us , even between H996 PREP-1MP us and thee , and let us make H3772 a covenant H1285 CFS with H5973 PREP-2FS thee ;
29 That H518 PART thou wilt do H6213 us no hurt H7451 AFS , as H834 K-RPRO we have not H3808 NADV touched H5060 thee , and as H834 we have done H6213 unto H5973 PREP-1MP thee nothing but H7535 ADV good H2896 AMS , and have sent thee away H7971 in peace H7965 : thou H859 PPRO-2MS art now H6258 ADV the blessed H1288 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
30 And he made H6213 W-VQY3MS them a feast H4960 NMS , and they did eat H398 W-VQY3MP and drink H8354 .
31 And they rose up quickly H7925 in the morning H1242 , and swore H7650 one H376 NMS to another H251 : and Isaac H3327 sent them away H7971 , and they departed H1980 W-VQY3MP from him in peace H7965 .
32 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS the same H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , that Isaac H3327 \'s servants H5650 came H935 W-VQY3MP , and told H5046 him concerning H5921 PREP the well H875 which H834 RPRO they had digged H2658 , and said H559 W-VQY3MP unto him , We have found H4672 VQQ1MP water H4325 NMP .
33 And he called H7121 W-VQY3MS it Shebah H7656 : therefore H3651 ADV the name H8034 CMS of the city H5892 D-GFS is Beer H884 - sheba unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS .
34 And Esau H6215 was H1961 W-VQY3MS forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS old H1121 when he took H3947 W-VQY3MS to wife H802 NFS Judith H3067 the daughter H1323 CFS of Beeri H882 the Hittite H2850 , and Bashemath H1315 the daughter H1323 CFS of Elon H356 the Hittite H2850 :
35 Which were H1961 a grief H4786 of mind H7307 NFS unto Isaac H3327 and to Rebekah H7259 .
