Ezra 3:4 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 So by the seventh month, the Israelites had moved back to their own hometowns. At that time all the people met together in Jerusalem. They were all united as one people.
2 Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and the priests with him, along with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and the people with him, built the altar of the God of Israel. They built the altar of the God of Israel so that they could offer sacrifices on it. They built it just as it says in the Law of Moses. Moses was God's special servant.
3 They were afraid of the other people living near them, but that didn't stop them. They built the altar on its old foundation and offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord. They offered sacrifices in the morning and in the evening.
4 Then they celebrated the Festival of Shelters just as the Law of Moses said. They offered the right number of burnt offerings for each day of the festival.
5 After that, they began offering the continual burnt offerings each day and the offerings for the New Moon and all the other festivals that were commanded by the Lord. The people also began giving any other gifts they wanted to give to the Lord.
6 So on the first day of the seventh month, these Israelites again began offering sacrifices to the Lord. This was done even though the Temple had not been rebuilt.
7 Then those who had come back from captivity gave money to the stonecutters and carpenters. They also gave food, wine, and olive oil. They used these things to pay the people of Tyre and Sidon to bring cedar logs from Lebanon. They wanted to bring the logs in ships to the seacoast town of Joppa as they did for the first Temple. King Cyrus of Persia gave permission for them to do this.
8 So in the second month of the second year after they came to the Temple in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak began the work. Their brothers, the priests, Levites, and everyone who came back to Jerusalem from captivity began working with them. They chose Levites who were 20 years old and older to be the leaders in the building of the Lord's Temple.
9 These were the men who supervised the work of building the Lord's Temple: Jeshua and his sons, Kadmiel and his sons (the descendants of Judah), the sons of Henadad and their brothers, the Levites.
10 The builders finished laying the foundation for the Lord's Temple. When the foundation was finished, the priests put on their special clothing. Then they got their trumpets, and the sons of Asaph got their cymbals. They all took their places to praise the Lord. This was done the way King David of Israel had ordered in the past.
11 They sang the response songs, Songs of Praise and Praise the Lord Because He is Good. His Faithful Love Will Last Forever. Then all the people cheeredthey gave a loud shout and praised the Lord. They did this because the foundation of the Lord's Temple had been laid.
12 But many of the older priests, Levites, and family leaders cried, because the older people had seen the first Temple{and they remembered how beautiful it was}. They cried out when they saw the new Temple. They cried while many of the other people were happy and shouting.
13 The sound could be heard far away. All of them made so much noise that no one could tell the difference between the shouts of joy and the crying.
1 And when the seventh H7637 month H2320 was come, H5060 and the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were in the cities, H5892 the people H5971 gathered themselves together H622 as one H259 man H376 to H413 Jerusalem. H3389
2 Then stood up H6965 Jeshua H3442 the son H1121 of Jozadak, H3136 and his brethren H251 the priests, H3548 and Zerubbabel H2216 the son H1121 of Shealtiel, H7597 and his brethren, H251 and built H1129 H853 the altar H4196 of the God H430 of Israel, H3478 to offer H5927 burnt offerings H5930 thereon, H5921 as it is written H3789 in the law H8451 of Moses H4872 the man H376 of God. H430
3 And they set H3559 the altar H4196 upon H5921 his bases; H4350 for H3588 fear H367 was upon H5921 them because of the people H4480 H5971 of those countries: H776 and they offered H5927 burnt offerings H5930 thereon H5921 unto the LORD, H3068 even burnt offerings H5930 morning H1242 and evening. H6153
4 They kept H6213 also H853 the feast H2282 of tabernacles, H5521 as it is written, H3789 and offered the daily H3117 H3117 burnt offerings H5930 by number, H4557 according to the custom, H4941 as the duty H1697 of every day H3117 H3117 required;
5 And afterward H310 offered the continual H8548 burnt offering, H5930 both of the new moons, H2320 and of all H3605 the set feasts H4150 of the LORD H3068 that were consecrated, H6942 and of every one H3605 that willingly offered H5068 a freewill offering H5071 unto the LORD. H3068
6 From the first day H4480 H3117 H259 of the seventh H7637 month H2320 began H2490 they to offer H5927 burnt offerings H5930 unto the LORD. H3068 But the foundation H3245 of the temple H1964 of the LORD H3068 was not H3808 yet laid.
7 They gave H5414 money H3701 also unto the masons, H2672 and to the carpenters; H2796 and meat, H3978 and drink, H4960 and oil, H8081 unto them of Zidon, H6722 and to them of Tyre, H6876 to bring H935 cedar H730 trees H6086 from H4480 Lebanon H3844 to H413 the sea H3220 of Joppa, H3305 according to the grant H7558 that they had of Cyrus H3566 king H4428 of Persia. H6539
8 Now in the second H8145 year H8141 of their coming H935 unto H413 the house H1004 of God H430 at Jerusalem, H3389 in the second H8145 month, H2320 began H2490 Zerubbabel H2216 the son H1121 of Shealtiel, H7597 and Jeshua H3442 the son H1121 of Jozadak, H3136 and the remnant H7605 of their brethren H251 the priests H3548 and the Levites, H3881 and all H3605 they that were come H935 out of the captivity H4480 H7628 unto Jerusalem; H3389 and appointed the Levites, H3881 from twenty years old H4480 H1121 H6242 H8141 and upward, H4605 to set H5329 forward H5921 the work H4399 of the house H1004 of the LORD. H3068
9 Then stood H5975 Jeshua H3442 with his sons H1121 and his brethren, H251 Kadmiel H6934 and his sons, H1121 the sons H1121 of Judah, H3063 together, H259 to set H5329 forward H5921 the workmen H6213 H4399 in the house H1004 of God: H430 the sons H1121 of Henadad, H2582 with their sons H1121 and their brethren H251 the Levites. H3881
10 And when the builders H1129 laid the foundation H3245 of H853 the temple H1964 of the LORD, H3068 they set H5975 the priests H3548 in their apparel H3847 with trumpets, H2689 and the Levites H3881 the sons H1121 of Asaph H623 with cymbals, H4700 to praise H1984 H853 the LORD, H3068 after H5921 the ordinance H3027 of David H1732 king H4428 of Israel. H3478
11 And they sang together by course H6030 in praising H1984 and giving thanks H3034 unto the LORD; H3068 because H3588 he is good, H2896 for H3588 his mercy H2617 endureth forever H5769 toward H5921 Israel. H3478 And all H3605 the people H5971 shouted H7321 with a great H1419 shout, H8643 when they praised H1984 the LORD, H3068 because H5921 the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid H3245 H1004. H3068
12 But many H7227 of the priests H4480 H3548 and Levites H3881 and chief H7218 of the fathers, H1 who were ancient men, H2205 that H834 had seen the first H7223 house, H1004 when the foundation of this house was laid H3245 H2088 H1004 before their eyes, H5869 wept H1058 with a loud H1419 voice; H6963 and many H7227 shouted aloud H8643 H7311 H6963 for joy: H8057
13 So that the people H5971 could not H369 discern H5234 the noise H6963 of the shout H8643 of joy H8057 from the noise H6963 of the weeping H1065 of the people: H5971 for H3588 the people H5971 shouted H7321 with a loud H1419 shout, H8643 and the noise H6963 was heard H8085 afar off H5704 H4480.
