Jeremiah 9:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 If my head were filled with water, and if my eyes were a fountain of tears, I would cry day and night for my people who have been destroyed.
2 If only I had a place in the desert— a house where travelers spend the night— so I could leave my people. I could go away from them, because they are all unfaithful to God. They have all turned against him.
3 "They use their tongues like a bow; lies fly from their mouths like arrows. Lies, not truth, have grown strong in this land. They go from one sin to another. They don't know me." This is what the Lord said.
4 "Watch your neighbors! Don't trust your own brothers, because every brother is a cheat. Every neighbor talks behind your back.
5 Everyone lies to their neighbor. No one speaks the truth. The people of Judah have taught their tongues to lie. They sinned until they were too tired to come back.
6 One bad thing followed another, and lies followed lies. The people refused to know me." This is what the Lord said.
7 So the Lord All-Powerful says, "A worker heats metal in a fire to test to see if it is pure. I will test the people of Judah like that. I have no other choice. My people have sinned.
8 The people of Judah have tongues as sharp as arrows. Their mouths speak lies. They all speak kindly to their neighbors, but they are secretly planning ways to attack them.
9 Should I punish the people of Judah for doing these things?" This message is from the Lord. "You know I should punish a nation such as this. I should give it the punishment it deserves."
10 I, Jeremiah, will cry for the mountains. I will sing a funeral song for the empty fields, because all the animals were taken away. No one travels there now. The sounds of cattle cannot be heard. The birds have flown away, and the animals are gone.
11 "I, the Lord, will make the city of Jerusalem a pile of garbage. It will be a home for jackals. I will destroy the cities in the land of Judah, so no one will live there."
12 Is there a man who is wise enough to understand these things? Is there someone who has been taught by the Lord? Can anyone explain his message? Why was the land ruined? Why was it made like an empty desert where no people go?
13 The Lord answered, "It is because the people of Judah stopped following my teachings. I gave them my teachings, but they refused to listen to me. They did not follow my teachings.
14 The people of Judah lived their own way. They were stubborn. They followed the false god Baal. Their fathers taught them to follow those false gods."
15 So the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says, "I will soon make the people of Judah eat bitter food and drink poisoned water.
16 I will scatter the people of Judah throughout other nations. They will live in strange nations that they and their fathers never knew about. I will send men with swords. They will kill the people of Judah. They will kill them until the people are finished."
17 This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: "Now think about these things! Call for the women who get paid to cry at funerals. Send for the people who are good at that job.
18 The people say, 'Let those women come quickly and cry for us. Then our eyes will fill with tears, and streams of water will come out of our eyes.'
19 "The sound of loud crying is heard from Zion: 'We are really ruined! We are so ashamed! We must leave our land, because our houses have been destroyed. Now our houses are only piles of rock.'"
20 Now, women of Judah, listen to the message from the Lord. Listen to the words from his mouth. Teach your daughters how to cry loudly. Each must learn to sing this funeral song:
21 "Death has climbed in through our windows and has come into our palaces. Death has come to our children who play in the streets and to the young men who meet in the public places."
22 This is what you should say: "The Lord says, 'Dead bodies will lie in the fields like dung. Their bodies will lie on the ground like grain cut by a farmer. But there will be no one to gather them.'"
23 This is what the Lord says: "The wise must not brag about their wisdom. The strong men must not brag about their strength. The rich must not brag about their money.
24 But if someone wants to brag, then let them brag about this: Let them brag that they learned to know me. Let them brag that they understand that I am the Lord, that I am kind and fair, and that I do good things on earth. I love these things." This message is from the Lord.
25 This message is from the Lord. "The time is coming when I will punish all those who are circumcised only in the body.
26 I am talking about the people of the nations of Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab, and all those who live in the desert. The men in all those countries really were not circumcised in their bodies. But the people from the family of Israel were not circumcised in their hearts."

2 Oh that I had H4310 IPRO in the wilderness H4057 a lodging place H4411 of wayfaring men H732 ; that I might leave H5800 my people H5971 , and go H1980 from them ! for H3588 CONJ they be all H3605 adulterers H5003 , an assembly H6116 of treacherous men H898 .
3 And they bend H1869 their tongues H3956 like their bow H7198 for lies H8267 NMS : but they are not H3808 W-NPAR valiant H1396 VQQ3MP for the truth H530 upon the earth H776 BD-GFS ; for H3588 CONJ they proceed H3318 from evil H7451 AFS to H413 PREP evil H7451 AFS , and they know H3045 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR me , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
4 Take ye heed H8104 every one H376 NMS of his neighbor H7453 CMS-3MS , and trust H982 ye not H408 NPAR in H5921 W-PREP any H3605 NMS brother H251 NMS : for H3588 CONJ every H3605 NMS brother H251 NMS will utterly supplant H6117 , and every H3605 NMS neighbor H7453 will walk H1980 VQY3MS with slanders H7400 .
5 And they will deceive H2048 every one H376 W-NMS his neighbor H7453 , and will not H3808 NADV speak H1696 VPY3MP the truth H571 : they have taught H3925 their tongue H3956 to speak H1696 lies H8267 NMS , and weary themselves H3811 to commit iniquity H5753 .
6 Thine habitation H3427 is in the midst H8432 B-NMS of deceit H4820 NFS ; through deceit H4820 they refuse H3985 to know H3045 me , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
7 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , Behold H2009 , I will melt H6884 them , and try H974 them ; for H3588 CONJ how H349 shall I do H6213 for M-CMP the daughter H1323 CFS of my people H5971 ?
8 Their tongue H3956 is as an arrow H2671 shot out H7819 ; it speaketh H1696 deceit H4820 NFS : one speaketh H1696 VPY3MS peaceably H7965 NMS to H854 PREP his neighbor H7453 NMS-3MS with his mouth H6310 B-CMS-3MS , but in heart H7130 he layeth H7760 VQY3MS his wait H696 .
9 Shall I not H3808 ADV visit H6485 them for H5921 these H428 PMP things ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS : shall not H3808 NADV my soul H5315 CFS-1MS be avenged H5358 on such H834 RPRO a nation H1471 as this H2088 ?
10 For H5921 PREP the mountains H2022 will I take up H5375 VQY1MS a weeping H1065 and wailing H5092 , and for H5921 PREP the habitations H4999 of the wilderness H4057 NMS a lamentation H7015 , because H3588 CONJ they are burned up H3341 , so that none H1097 M-NPAR can pass through H5674 them ; neither H3808 W-NPAR can men hear H8085 VQQ3MP the voice H6963 CMS of the cattle H4735 NMS ; both the fowl H5775 M-NMS of the heavens H8064 D-NMD and the beast H929 NFS are fled H5074 ; they are gone H1980 .
11 And I will make H5414 Jerusalem H3389 heaps H1530 , and a den H4583 of dragons H8577 ; and I will make H5414 VQY1MS the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 desolate H8077 , without H1097 M-NPAR an inhabitant H3427 .
12 Who H4310 IPRO is the wise H2450 I-AMS man H376 D-NMS , that may understand H995 this H2063 DPRO ? and who is he to H413 PREP-3MS whom the mouth H6310 of the LORD H3068 EDS hath spoken H1696 VPQ3MS , that he may declare H5046 it , for H5921 PREP what H4100 IGAT the land H776 D-GFS perisheth H6 and is burned up H3341 like a wilderness H4057 , that none H1097 M-NPAR passeth through H5674 ?
13 And the LORD H3068 EDS saith H559 W-VQY3MS , Because H5921 PREP they have forsaken H5800 my law H8451 CFS-1MS which H834 RPRO I set H5414 VQQ1MS before H6440 L-CMP-3MP them , and have not H3808 W-NPAR obeyed H8085 VQQ3MP my voice H6963 , neither H3808 W-NPAR walked H1980 VQQ3MP therein ;
14 But have walked H1980 W-VQY3MP after H310 PREP the imagination H8307 of their own heart H3820 CMS-3MP , and after H310 Baalim H1168 , which H834 RPRO their fathers H1 CMP-3MP taught H3925 them :
15 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Behold H2009 , I will feed H398 them , even this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 , with wormwood H3939 , and give them water H4325 of gall H7219 to drink H8248 .
16 I will scatter H6327 them also among the heathen H1471 , whom H834 RPRO neither H3808 NADV they H1992 PPRO-3MP nor their fathers H1 have known H3045 : and I will send H7971 a sword H2719 D-GFS after H310 them , till H5704 PREP I have consumed H3615 them .
17 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , Consider H995 ye , and call H7121 for the mourning women H6969 , that they may come H935 ; and send H7971 for H413 W-PREP cunning H2450 women , that they may come H935 :
18 And let them make haste H4116 , and take up H5375 a wailing H5092 for H5921 PREP-1MP us , that our eyes H5869 may run down H3381 with tears H1832 , and our eyelids H6079 gush out H5140 VQY3MP with waters H4325 NMP .
19 For H3588 CONJ a voice H6963 CMS of wailing H5092 is heard H8085 VQY1MP out of Zion H6726 , How H349 are we spoiled H7703 ! we are greatly H3966 ADV confounded H954 , because H3588 CONJ we have forsaken H5800 the land H776 NFS , because H3588 CONJ our dwellings H4908 have cast us out H7993 .
20 Yet H3588 CONJ hear H8085 the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , O ye women H802 GFP , and let your ear H241 receive H3947 the word H1697 CMS of his mouth H6310 , and teach H3925 your daughters H1323 wailing H5092 , and every one H802 her neighbor H7468 lamentation H7015 .
21 For H3588 CONJ death H4194 NMS is come up H5927 into our windows H2474 , and is entered H935 VQPMS into our palaces H759 , to cut off H3772 the children H5768 from without H2351 , and the young men H970 from the streets H7339 .
22 Speak H1696 VPFC , Thus H3541 saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , Even the carcasses H5038 of men H120 D-NMS shall fall H5307 as dung H1828 upon H5921 PREP the open H6440 CMP field H7704 D-NMS , and as the handful H5995 after H310 the harvest man H7114 , and none H369 W-NPAR shall gather H622 them .
23 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , Let not H408 NPAR the wise H2450 AMS man glory H1984 in his wisdom H2451 , neither H408 ADV let the mighty H1368 man glory H1984 in his might H1369 , let not H408 NPAR the rich H6223 AMS man glory H1984 in his riches H6239 :
24 But H518 PART let him that glorieth H1984 glory H1984 in this H2063 , that he understandeth H7919 VHFA and knoweth H3045 me , that H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS which exercise H6213 VQPMS lovingkindness H2617 NMS , judgment H4941 NMS , and righteousness H6666 , in the earth H776 B-NFS : for H3588 CONJ in these H428 things I delight H2654 VQQ1MS , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
25 Behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that I will punish H6485 all H3605 NMS them which are circumcised H4135 with the uncircumcised H6190 ;
26 Egypt H4714 EFS , and Judah H3063 , and Edom H123 , and the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 , and Moab H4124 , and all H3605 NMS that are in the utmost H7112 corners H6285 , that dwell H3427 in the wilderness H4057 : for H3588 CONJ all H3605 NMS these nations H1471 D-NMP are uncircumcised H6189 , and all H3605 NMS the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 are uncircumcised H6189 in the heart H3820 NMS .
