Jeremiah 7:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 This is the Lord's message to Jeremiah:
2 "Jeremiah, stand at the gate of the Lord's house. Teach this message at the gate: "'Hear the message from the Lord, all you people of the nation of Judah. All you who come through these gates to worship the Lord, hear this message.
3 The Lord is the God of the people of Israel. This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: Change your lives and do good things. If you do this, I will let you live in this place.
4 Don't trust the lies that some people say. They say, "This is the Temple of the Lord, the Temple of the Lord, the Temple of the Lord! "
5 If you change your lives and do good things, I will let you live in this place. You must be fair to each other.
6 You must be fair to strangers. You must help widows and orphans. Don't kill innocent people! And don't follow other gods, because they will only ruin your lives.
7 If you obey me, I will let you live in this place. I gave this land to your ancestors for them to keep forever.
8 "'But you are trusting lies that are worthless.
9 Will you steal and murder? Will you commit adultery? Will you falsely accuse other people? Will you worship the false god Baal and follow other gods that you have not known?
10 If you commit these sins, do you think that you can stand before me in this house that is called by my name? Do you think you can stand before me and say, "We are safe," just so you can do all these terrible things?
11 This Temple is called by my name. Is this Temple nothing more to you than a hideout for robbers? I have been watching you.'" This message is from the Lord.
12 "'You people of Judah, go now to the town of Shiloh. Go to the place where I first made a house for my name. The people of Israel also did evil things. Go and see what I did to that place because of the evil they did.
13 You people of Israel were doing all these evil things. This message is from the Lord! I spoke to you again and again, but you refused to listen to me. I called to you, but you did not answer.
14 So I will destroy the house called by my name in Jerusalem. I will destroy that Temple as I destroyed Shiloh. And that house in Jerusalem that is called by my name is the Temple you trust in. I gave that place to you and to your ancestors.
15 I will throw you away from me just as I threw away all your brothers from Ephraim. '
16 "As for you, Jeremiah, don't pray for these people of Judah. Don't beg for them or pray for them. Don't beg me to help them. I will not listen to your prayer for them.
17 I know you see what they are doing in the towns of Judah. You can see what they are doing in the streets of the city of Jerusalem.
18 This is what the people of Judah are doing: The children gather wood. The fathers use the wood to make a fire. The women make the dough and then make cakes of bread to offer to the Queen of Heaven. The people of Judah pour out drink offerings to worship other gods. They do this to make me angry.
19 But I am not the one they are really hurting." This message is from the Lord. "They are only hurting themselves. They are bringing shame on themselves."
20 So this is what the Lord says: "I will show my anger against this place. I will punish people and animals. I will punish the trees in the field and the crops that grow in the ground. My anger will be like a hot fire—no one will be able to stop it."
21 This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: "Go and offer as many burnt offerings and sacrifices as you want. Eat the meat of those sacrifices yourselves.
22 I brought your ancestors out of Egypt. I spoke to them, but I did not give them any commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices.
23 I only gave them this command: 'Obey me and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do all that I command, and good things will happen to you.'
24 "But your ancestors did not listen to me. They did not pay attention to me. They were stubborn and did what they wanted to do. They did not become good. They became even more evil—they went backward, not forward.
25 From the day that your ancestors left Egypt to this day, I have sent my servants to you. My servants are the prophets. I sent them to you again and again.
26 But your ancestors did not listen to me. They did not pay attention to me. They were very stubborn and did evil even worse than their fathers did.
27 "Jeremiah, you will tell these things to the people of Judah. But they will not listen to you. You call to them, but they will not answer you.
28 So you must tell them these things: This is the nation that did not obey the Lord its God. These people did not listen to God's teachings. They don't know the true teachings.
29 "Jeremiah, cut off your hair and throw it away. Go up to the bare hilltop and cry, because the Lord has rejected this generation of people. He has turned his back on these people. And in anger, he will punish them.
30 Do this because I have seen the people of Judah doing evil things." This message is from the Lord. "They have set up their idols, and I hate those idols. They have set up idols in the Temple that is called by my name. They have made my house 'dirty'!
31 The people of Judah built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom where they killed their own sons and daughters and burned them as sacrifices. This is something I never commanded. Something like this never even entered my mind!
32 So I warn you. The days are coming," says the Lord, "when people will not call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom anymore. No, they will call it the Valley of Slaughter. They will give it this name because they will bury the dead people in Topheth until there is no more room to bury anyone else.
33 Then the bodies of the dead people will become food for the birds of the sky. Wild animals will eat the bodies of those people. There will be no one left alive to chase the birds or animals away.
34 I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and happiness in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. There will be no more sounds of the bride and bridegroom in Judah or Jerusalem. The land will become an empty desert."

3 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , Amend H3190 your ways H1870 and your doings H4611 , and I will cause you to dwell H7931 in this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 .
4 Trust H982 ye not H408 NPAR in H413 PREP lying H8267 words H1697 CMP , saying H559 L-VQFC , The temple H1964 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , The temple H1964 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , The temple H1964 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , are these H1992 .
5 For H3588 CONJ if H518 PART ye throughly amend H3190 your ways H1870 and your doings H4611 ; if H518 PART ye throughly execute H6213 judgment H4941 NMS between H996 PREP a man H376 NMS and his neighbor H7453 CMS-3MS ;
6 If ye oppress H6231 not H3808 NADV the stranger H1616 NMS , the fatherless H3490 NMS , and the widow H490 W-NFS , and shed H8210 not H408 ADV innocent H5355 AMS blood H1818 in this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 , neither H3808 NADV walk H1980 after H310 other H312 AMP gods H430 EDP to your hurt H7451 :
7 Then will I cause you to dwell H7931 in this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 , in the land H776 B-NFS that H834 RPRO I gave H5414 VQQ1MS to your fathers H1 , forever H5769 NMS and ever H5704 W-PREP .

9 Will ye steal H1589 , murder H7523 , and commit adultery H5003 , and swear H7650 falsely H8267 , and burn incense H6999 unto Baal H1168 , and walk H1980 after H310 PREP other H312 AMP gods H430 EDP whom H834 RPRO ye know H3045 not H3808 ADV ;
10 And come H935 and stand H5975 before H6440 L-CMP me in this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 , which H834 RPRO is called H7121 by H5921 PREP-3MS my name H8034 , and say H559 , We are delivered to do H5337 all H3605 NMS these H428 abominations H8441 ?
11 Is this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 D-NMS , which H834 RPRO is called H7121 by H5921 PREP-3MS my name H8034 , become H1961 VQQ3MS a den H4631 of robbers H6530 in your eyes H5869 ? Behold H2009 IJEC , even H1571 CONJ I H595 PPRO-1MS have seen H7200 VQQ1MS it , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
12 But H3588 CONJ go H1980 VQI2MP ye now H4994 IJEC unto H413 PREP my place H4725 which H834 RPRO was in Shiloh H7887 , where H834 RPRO I set H7931 my name H8034 at the first H7223 , and see H7200 what H834 RPRO I did H6213 VQQ1MS to it for M-CMP the wickedness H7451 CFS of my people H5971 Israel H3478 LMS .
13 And now H6528 , because H3282 ADV ye have done H6213 all H3605 NMS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP works H4639 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , and I spoke H1696 unto H413 you , rising up early H7925 and speaking H1696 , but ye heard H8085 not H3808 W-NPAR ; and I called H7121 you , but ye answered H6030 not H3808 W-NPAR ;
14 Therefore will I do H6213 unto this house H1004 , which H834 RPRO is called H7121 by H5921 PREP-3MS my name H8034 , wherein H834 RPRO ye H859 PPRO-2MS trust H982 , and unto the place H4725 which H834 RPRO I gave H5414 VQQ1MS to you and to your fathers H1 , as H834 RPRO I have done H6213 VQQ1MS to Shiloh H7887 .
15 And I will cast H7993 you out of M-PREP my sight H6440 , as H834 K-RPRO I have cast out H7993 all H3605 NMS your brethren H251 , even the whole H3605 NMS seed H2233 NMS of Ephraim H669 .
16 Therefore pray H6419 not H408 NPAR thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS for H1157 PREP this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 , neither H408 ADV lift up H5375 VQY2MS cry H7440 nor prayer H8605 for H1157 them , neither H408 ADV make intercession H6293 to me : for H3588 CONJ I will not H369 hear H8085 thee .
17 Seest H7200 VQPMS thou not H369 what H4100 IGAT they H1992 PPRO-3MP do H6213 in the cities H5892 B-CFP of Judah H3063 and in the streets H2351 of Jerusalem H3389 ?
18 The children H1121 gather H3950 wood H6086 , and the fathers H1 kindle H1197 the fire H784 , and the women H802 knead H3888 their dough H1217 , to make H6213 L-VQFC cakes H3561 to the queen H4446 of heaven H8064 D-NMD , and to pour out H5258 drink offerings H5262 unto other H312 AMP gods H430 , that H4616 L-CONJ they may provoke me to anger H3707 .
19 Do they H1992 PPRO-3MP provoke me to anger H3707 ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS : do they not H3808 D-NPAR provoke themselves to H4616 L-CONJ the confusion H1322 of their own faces H6440 ?
20 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 ; Behold H2009 IJEC , mine anger H639 CMS-1MS and my fury H2534 shall be poured out H5413 upon H413 PREP this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 D-NMS , upon H5921 PREP man H120 D-NMS , and upon H5921 PREP beast H929 D-NFS , and upon H5921 PREP the trees H6086 NMS of the field H7704 D-NMS , and upon H5921 PREP the fruit H6529 NMS of the ground H127 D-NFS ; and it shall burn H1197 , and shall not H3808 W-NPAR be quenched H3518 .
21 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Put H5595 your burnt offerings H5930 unto H5921 PREP your sacrifices H2077 , and eat H398 flesh H1320 .
22 For H3588 CONJ I spoke H1696 not H3808 ADV unto your fathers H1 , nor H3808 W-NADV commanded H6680 them in the day H3117 B-NMS that I brought H3318 them out of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 , concerning H5921 PREP burnt offerings H5930 NFS or sacrifices H2077 :
23 But H518 PART this H2088 D-PMS thing H1697 D-NMS commanded H6680 I them , saying H559 L-VQFC , Obey H8085 VQI2MP my voice H6963 , and I will be H1961 your God H430 L-NMP , and ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP shall be H1961 my people H5971 : and walk H1980 ye in all H3605 B-CMS the ways H1870 D-NMS that H834 RPRO I have commanded H6680 you , that H4616 L-CONJ it may be well H3190 unto you .
24 But they hearkened H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR , nor H3808 W-NPAR inclined H5186 VHQ3MP their ear H241 CFS-3MP , but walked H1980 W-VQY3MP in the counsels H4156 B-NFP and in the imagination H8307 B-CFP of their evil H7451 D-AMS heart H3820 CMS-3MP , and went H1961 W-VQY3MP backward H268 L-NMS , and not H3808 W-NPAR forward H6440 L-NMP .
25 Since H4480 the day H3117 NUM-MS that H834 RPRO your fathers H1 came forth H3318 VQQ3MP out of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 EFS unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 NUM-MS I have even sent H7971 unto H413 you all H3605 NMS my servants H5650 the prophets H5030 , daily H3117 NMS rising up early H7925 and sending H7971 them :
26 Yet they hearkened H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR unto H413 PREP-1MS me , nor H3808 W-NPAR inclined H5186 VHQ3MP their ear H241 CFS-3MP , but hardened H7185 their neck H6203 : they did worse H7489 than their fathers H1 M-CMP-3MP .
27 Therefore thou shalt speak H1696 all H3605 NMS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP words H1697 AMP unto H413 PREP-3MP them ; but they will not H3808 W-NPAR hearken H8085 VQY3MP to H413 PREP-2MS thee : thou shalt also call H7121 unto H413 PREP-3MP them ; but they will not H3808 W-NPAR answer H6030 thee .
28 But thou shalt say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MP them , This H2088 DPRO is a nation H1471 that H834 RPRO obeyeth H8085 VQQ3MP not H3808 W-NPAR the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS their God H430 CMP-3MS , nor H3808 W-NPAR receiveth H3947 correction H4148 : truth H530 is perished H6 , and is cut off H3772 from their mouth H6310 .
29 Cut off H1494 thine hair H5145 , O Jerusalem , and cast it away H7993 , and take up H5375 a lamentation H7015 on H5921 PREP high places H8205 ; for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath rejected H3988 and forsaken H5203 the generation H1755 of his wrath H5678 .
30 For H3588 CONJ the children H1121 CMP of Judah H3063 have done H6213 VQQ3MP evil H7451 in my sight H5869 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS : they have set H7760 VQQ3MP their abominations H8251 in the house H1004 which H834 RPRO is called H7121 by H5921 PREP-3MS my name H8034 , to pollute H2930 it .
31 And they have built H1129 the high places H1116 of Tophet H8612 , which H834 RPRO is in the valley H1516 of the son H1121 CMS of Hinnom H2011 , to burn H8313 their sons H1121 and their daughters H1323 in the fire H784 ; which H834 RPRO I commanded H6680 them not H3808 NADV , neither H3808 W-NADV came H5927 VQQ3FS it into H5921 PREP my heart H3820 .
32 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that it shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV be called H559 Tophet H8612 , nor the valley H1516 of the son H1121 CMS of Hinnom H2011 , but H518 PART the valley H1516 of slaughter H2028 : for they shall bury H6912 in Tophet H8612 , till there be no H369 place H4725 .
33 And the carcasses H5038 of this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 shall be H1961 meat H3978 for the fowls H5775 of the heaven H8064 D-NMD , and for the beasts H929 of the earth H776 D-GFS ; and none H369 W-NPAR shall frighten them away H2729 .
34 Then will I cause to cease H7673 from the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 , and from the streets H2351 of Jerusalem H3389 , the voice H6963 CMS of mirth H8342 , and the voice H6963 W-CMS of gladness H8057 , the voice H6963 CMS of the bridegroom H2860 , and the voice H6963 W-CMS of the bride H3618 : for H3588 CONJ the land H776 D-GFS shall be H1961 VQY3FS desolate H2723 .
