1 Jeremiah received a message from the Lord for all the people of Judah living in Egypt. The message was for the people of Judah living in the towns of Migdol, Tahpanhes, Memphis, and southern Egypt. This was the message:

2 "This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: You people saw the disasters that I brought on the city of Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah. The towns are empty piles of stones today.

3 They were destroyed because the people living in them did evil. They gave sacrifices to other gods, and that made me angry! Your people and your ancestors did not worship those gods in the past.

4 I sent my servants, the prophets, to those people again and again. They spoke my message and said to the people, 'Don't do this terrible thing. I hate for you to worship idols. '

5 But they didn't listen to the prophets or pay attention to them. They didn't stop doing wicked things. They didn't stop making sacrifices to other gods.

6 So I showed my anger against them. I punished the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. My anger made Jerusalem and the towns of Judah the empty piles of stone they are today.

7 "So this is what the Lord God All- Powerful, the God of Israel, says: Why are you hurting yourselves by continuing to worship idols? You are separating the men and women, the children and babies from the family of Judah. And so you leave yourselves without anyone left from the family of Judah.

8 Why do you people want to make me angry by making idols? Now you are living in Egypt. And now you are making me angry by offering sacrifices to the false gods of Egypt. You will destroy yourselves, and it will be your own fault. The people of all the other nations on earth will say bad things about you and make fun of you.

9 Have you forgotten about the wicked things your ancestors did? And have you forgotten about the wicked things the kings and queens of Judah did? Have you forgotten about the wicked things you and your wives did in Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

10 Even to this day the people of Judah have not made themselves humble. They have not shown any respect for me, and they have not followed my teachings. They have not obeyed the laws I gave you and your ancestors."

11 "So this is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: I have decided to make terrible things happen to you. I will destroy the whole family of Judah.

12 There were a few survivors from Judah. They came here to Egypt. But I will destroy the few survivors from the family of Judah. They will be killed with swords or die from hunger. The people of other nations will point at them and wish evil for them. People will be shocked and frightened by what has happened to them. The name of Judah will become a curse word and an insult.

13 I will punish those who have gone to live in Egypt. I will use swords, hunger, and terrible sicknesses to punish them. I will punish them just as I punished the city of Jerusalem.

14 Not one of the few survivors of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape my punishment. None of them will survive to come back to Judah. They want to come back to Judah and live there. But not one of them will go back to Judah, except a few people who escape."

15 There were many people from Judah living in southern Egypt. Many of the women from Judah were meeting together in a large group and making sacrifices to other gods, and their husbands knew what they were doing. Those men said to Jeremiah,

16 "We will not listen to the message from the Lord that you spoke to us.

17 We promised to make sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven, and we will do everything we promised. We will offer sacrifices and pour out drink offerings in worship to her. We did that in the past. Our ancestors, our kings, and our officials did that in the past. All of us did those things in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. When we worshiped the Queen of Heaven, we had plenty of food. We were successful. Nothing bad happened to us.

18 But then we stopped making sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven, and we stopped pouring out drink offerings to her. And we have had problems ever since we stopped worshiping her. Our people have been killed by swords and hunger."

19 Then the women spoke up and said to Jeremiah, "Our husbands knew what we were doing. We had their permission to make sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven. We had their permission to pour out drink offerings to her. Our husbands also knew that we were making cakes that looked like her."

20 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the men and women who had just said those things.

21 He said to them, "The Lord remembered that you made sacrifices in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. You and your ancestors, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land did that. He remembered what you had done and thought about it.

22 The Lord hated the terrible things you did, and he could not be patient with you any longer. So he made your country an empty desert. No one lives there now. Other people say bad things about that country.

23 The reason all those bad things happened to you is because you made sacrifices to other gods. You sinned against the Lord. You didn't obey him or follow his teachings or the laws he gave you. You didn't keep your part of the agreement. "

24 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the men and women. He said, "All you people of Judah who are now in Egypt, listen to the message from the Lord:

25 This is what the Lord All- Powerful, the God of the people of Israel, says: You women did what you said you would do. You said, 'We will keep the promises we made. We promised to make sacrifices and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.' So go ahead. Do what you promised you would do. Keep your promises.

26 "But, listen to the message from the Lord, all you people of Judah who are living in Egypt: 'I use my great name and make this promise: I promise that none of the people of Judah who are now living in Egypt will ever again use my name to make promises. They will never again say, "As surely as the Lord lives,

27 "I am watching over the people of Judah, but I am not watching over them to take care of them. I am watching over them to hurt them. The people of Judah who live in Egypt will die from hunger and be killed by swords. They will continue to die until they are finished.

28 Some people of Judah will escape being killed by the sword. They will come back to Judah from Egypt. But only a few people of Judah will escape. Then the survivors of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will come true. They will know whether my word or their word came true.

29 I will give you people proof,' says the Lord, 'that I will punish you here in Egypt. Then you will know for sure that my promises to hurt you will really happen.

30 'This will be your proof that I will do what I say.' This is what the Lord says: 'Pharaoh Hophra is the king of Egypt. His enemies want to kill him. I will give Pharaoh Hophra to his enemies. Zedekiah was the king of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar was Zedekiah's enemy, and I gave Zedekiah to his enemy. In the same way I will give Pharaoh Hophra to his enemy.'"

4 Howbeit I sent ^H7971 unto ^H413 you all ^H3605 ^NMS my servants ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030 , rising early ^H7925 and sending ^H7971 them , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC , Oh ^H4994 ^IJEC , do ^H6213 not ^H408 ^NPAR this ^H2063 ^D-DFS abominable ^H8441 thing ^H1697 that ^H834 ^RPRO I hate ^H8130 .

5 But they hearkened ^H8085 ^VQQ3MP not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR , nor ^H3808 ^W-NPAR inclined ^H5186 ^VHQ3MP their ear ^H241 ^CFS-3MP to turn ^H7725 from their wickedness ^H7451 , to burn ^H6999 no ^H1115 ^L-NPAR incense unto other ^H312 gods ^H430 .

6 Wherefore my fury ^H2534 and mine anger ^H639 was poured forth ^H5413 , and was kindled ^H1197 ^W-VQY3FS in the cities ^H5892 ^B-CFP of Judah ^H3063 and in the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389 ; and they are ^H1961 wasted ^H2723 and desolate ^H8077 , as at this ^H2088 ^D-PMS day ^H3117 .

7 Therefore now ^H6258 ^W-ADV thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , the God ^H430 ^CDP of hosts ^H6635 , the God ^H430 ^CDP of Israel ^H3478 ; Wherefore ^H4100 ^L-IGAT commit ^H6213 ye ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS this great ^H1419 ^AFS evil ^H7451 ^AFS against ^H413 ^PREP your souls ^H5315 , to cut off ^H3772 from you man ^H376 ^NMS and woman ^H802 , child ^H5768 and suckling ^H3243 , out of Judah ^H3063 , to leave ^H3498 you none ^H1115 ^L-NPAR to remain ^H7611 ;

11 Therefore ^H3651 ^L-ADV thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 , the God ^H430 ^CDP of Israel ^H3478 ; Behold ^H2009 , I will set ^H7760 ^VQQ3MS my face ^H6440 ^NMP-1MS against you for evil ^H7451 , and to cut off ^H3772 all ^H3605 ^NMS Judah ^H3063 .

12 And I will take ^H3947 the remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063 , that ^H834 ^RPRO have set ^H7760 ^VQQ3MP their faces ^H6440 to go into ^H935 ^L-VQFC the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS to sojourn ^H1481 ^L-VQFC there ^H8033 ^ADV , and they shall all ^H3605 ^CONJ be consumed ^H8552 , and fall ^H5307 in the land ^H776 ^B-GFS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS ; they shall even be consumed ^H8552 by the sword ^H2719 and by the famine ^H7458 : they shall die ^H4191 ^VQY3MP , from the least ^H6996 even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP the greatest ^H1419 ^AMS , by the sword ^H2719 and by the famine ^H7458 : and they shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS an execration ^H423 , and an astonishment ^H8047 , and a curse ^H7045 , and a reproach ^H2781 .

13 For I will punish ^H6485 them that dwell ^H3427 in the land ^H776 ^B-GFS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS , as ^H834 ^K-RPRO I have punished ^H6485 Jerusalem ^H3389 , by the sword ^H2719 , by the famine ^H7458 , and by the pestilence ^H1698 :

14 So that none ^H3808 ^W-NPAR of the remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063 , which are gone ^H935 into the land ^H776 ^B-GFS of Egypt ^H4714 to sojourn ^H1481 there ^H8033 ^ADV , shall ^H1961 ^VQY3MS escape ^H6412 or remain ^H8300 , that they should return ^H7725 into the land ^H776 ^GFS of Judah ^H3063 , to the which ^H834 ^RPRO they ^H1992 ^PPRO-3MP have a desire ^H5375 to return ^H7725 to dwell ^H3427 ^L-VQFC there ^H8033 ^ADV : for ^H3588 ^CONJ none ^H3808 ^W-NPAR shall return ^H7725 but ^H518 ^PART such as shall escape ^H6412 .

17 But ^H3588 ^CONJ we will certainly do ^H6213 whatsoever ^H3605 ^NMS thing ^H1697 ^D-NMS goeth forth ^H3318 ^VQQ3MS out of our own mouth ^H6310 , to burn incense ^H6999 unto the queen ^H4446 of heaven ^H8064 ^D-NMD , and to pour out ^H5258 drink offerings ^H5262 unto her , as ^H834 ^RPRO we have done ^H6213 , we ^H587 ^PPRO-1MP , and our fathers ^H1 , our kings ^H4428 , and our princes ^H8269 , in the cities ^H5892 ^B-CFP of Judah ^H3063 , and in the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389 : for then had we plenty ^H7646 of victuals ^H3899 ^NMS , and were ^H1961 well ^H2896 , and saw ^H7200 no ^H3808 ^NADV evil ^H7451 .

18 But since ^H227 ^ADV we left off ^H2308 to burn incense ^H6999 to the queen ^H4446 of heaven ^H8064 ^D-NMD , and to pour out ^H5258 drink offerings ^H5262 unto her , we have wanted ^H2637 all ^H3605 ^CONJ things , and have been consumed ^H8552 by the sword ^H2719 and by the famine ^H7458 .

19 And when ^H3588 we ^H587 ^PPRO-1MP burned incense ^H6999 to the queen ^H4446 of heaven ^H8064 ^D-NMD , and poured out ^H5258 drink offerings ^H5262 unto her , did we make ^H6213 her cakes ^H3561 to worship ^H6087 her , and pour out ^H5258 drink offerings ^H5262 unto her , without ^H1107 our men ^H376 ?

20 Then Jeremiah ^H3414 said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the people ^H5971 , to ^H5921 ^PREP the men ^H1397 , and to ^H5921 ^PREP the women ^H802 ^D-NFP , and to ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the people ^H5971 which had given him that answer ^H6030 , saying ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS ,

21 The incense ^H7002 that ^H834 ^RPRO ye burned ^H6999 in the cities ^H5892 ^B-CFP of Judah ^H3063 , and in the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389 , ye ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS , and your fathers ^H1 , your kings ^H4428 , and your princes ^H8269 , and the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776 ^D-GFS , did not ^H3808 ^D-NPAR the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS remember ^H2142 them , and came ^H5927 it not into ^H5921 ^PREP his mind ^H3820 ^CMS-3MS ?

22 So that the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS could ^H3201 ^VQY3MS no ^H3808 ^W-NPAR longer ^H5750 ^ADV bear ^H5375 , because ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the evil ^H7455 of your doings ^H4611 , and because ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the abominations ^H8441 which ^H834 ^RPRO ye have committed ^H6213 ; therefore is ^H1961 ^W-VQY3FS your land ^H776 a desolation ^H2723 , and an astonishment ^H8047 , and a curse ^H7045 , without ^H369 an inhabitant ^H3427 ^VQPMS , as at this ^H2088 ^D-PMS day ^H3117 .

23 Because ^H6440 ^M-CMP ye have burned incense ^H6999 , and because ^H834 ^RPRO ye have sinned ^H2398 against the LORD ^H3068 ^L-EDS , and have not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR obeyed ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 ^B-NMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , nor ^H3808 ^W-NPAR walked ^H1980 in his law ^H8451 , nor in his statutes ^H2708 , nor in his testimonies ^H5715 ; therefore ^H3651 ^ADV this ^H2063 ^D-DFS evil ^H7451 ^D-AFS is happened unto ^H7122 you , as at this ^H2088 ^D-PMS day ^H3117 .

24 Moreover Jeremiah ^H3414 said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the people ^H5971 , and to ^H413 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the women ^H802 ^D-NFP , Hear ^H8085 ^VQI2MP the word ^H1697 ^CMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , all ^H3605 ^NMS Judah ^H3063 that ^H834 ^RPRO are in the land ^H776 ^B-GFS of Egypt ^H4714 :

25 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS of hosts ^H6635 , the God ^H430 ^CDP of Israel ^H3478 , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC ; Ye ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS and your wives ^H802 have both spoken ^H1696 with your mouths ^H6310 , and fulfilled ^H4390 with your hand ^H3027 , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC , We will surely perform ^H6213 our vows ^H5088 that ^H834 ^RPRO we have vowed ^H5087 , to burn incense ^H6999 to the queen ^H4446 of heaven ^H8064 ^D-NMD , and to pour out ^H5258 drink offerings ^H5262 unto her : ye will surely accomplish ^H6965 your vows ^H5088 , and surely perform ^H6213 your vows ^H5088 .

26 Therefore ^H3651 ^L-ADV hear ^H8085 ^VQI2MP ye the word ^H1697 ^NMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , all ^H3605 ^NMS Judah ^H3063 that dwell ^H3427 in the land ^H776 ^B-GFS of Egypt ^H4714 ; Behold ^H2009 , I have sworn ^H7650 by my great ^H1419 ^D-AMS name ^H8034 , saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , that my name ^H8034 shall no ^H518 ^PART more ^H5750 ^ADV be ^H1961 ^VQY3MS named ^H7121 in the mouth ^H6310 ^B-CMS of any ^H3605 ^NMS man ^H376 ^NMS of Judah ^H3063 in all ^H3605 ^NMS the land ^H776 ^GFS of Egypt ^H4714 , saying ^H559 , The Lord ^H136 ^EDS GOD ^H3069 liveth ^H2416 ^AMS .

27 Behold ^H2009 , I will watch ^H8245 over ^H5921 ^PREP-3MP them for evil ^H7451 , and not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR for good ^H2896 : and all ^H3605 ^CMS the men ^H376 ^NMS of Judah ^H3063 that ^H834 ^RPRO are in the land ^H776 ^B-GFS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS shall be consumed ^H8552 by the sword ^H2719 and by the famine ^H7458 , until ^H5704 ^PREP there be an end ^H3615 of them .

28 Yet a small ^H4962 ^CMP number ^H4557 ^NMS that escape ^H6412 the sword ^H2719 ^GFS shall return ^H7725 ^VQY3MP-3FP out of ^H4480 ^PREP the land ^H776 ^GFS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS into the land ^H776 ^GFS of Judah ^H3063 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063 , that are gone ^H935 into the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS to sojourn ^H1481 ^L-VQFC there ^H8033 ^ADV , shall know ^H3045 whose ^H4310 ^IPRO words ^H1697 ^CMS shall stand ^H6965 ^VQY3MS , mine ^H4480 ^PREP , or theirs ^H4480 ^PREP .

29 And this ^H2063 shall be a sign ^H226 unto you , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , that ^H3588 ^CONJ I ^H589 ^PPRO-1MS will punish ^H6485 you in this ^H2088 ^D-PMS place ^H4725 , that ^H4616 ^L-CONJ ye may know ^H3045 that ^H3588 ^CONJ my words ^H1697 ^CMP-1MS shall surely stand ^H6965 against ^H5921 ^PREP-2MP you for evil ^H7451 :

30 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS ; Behold ^H2009 , I will give ^H5414 ^VQPMS Pharaoh Hophra ^H6548 king ^H4428 ^NMS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS into the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of his enemies ^H341 , and into the hand ^H3027 of them that seek ^H1245 his life ^H5315 ^NMS-3MS ; as ^H834 ^K-RPRO I gave ^H5414 ^VQQ1MS Zedekiah ^H6667 king ^H4428 ^NMS of Judah ^H3063 into the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 ^NMS of Babylon ^H894 ^LFS , his enemy ^H341 , and that sought ^H1245 his life ^H5315 ^CFS-3MS .
