Jeremiah 19:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The Lord said to me: "Jeremiah, go and buy a clay jar from a potter.
2 Go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom, near the front of the Potsherd Gate. Take some of the elders of the people and some priests with you. There tell them what I tell you.
3 Say to those who are with you, 'King of Judah and people of Jerusalem, listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of the people of Israel, says: I will soon make a terrible thing happen to this place! Everyone who hears about it will be amazed and full of fear.
4 I will do these things because the people of Judah have stopped following me. They have made this a place for foreign gods. The people of Judah have burned sacrifices in this place to other gods. The people did not worship those gods long ago. Their ancestors did not worship them. These are new gods from other countries. The kings of Judah filled this place with the blood of innocent children.
5 The kings of Judah built high places for the god Baal. They use those places to burn their sons in the fire. They burned their sons as burnt offerings to the god Baal. I did not tell them to do that. I did not ask them to offer their sons as sacrifices. I never even thought of such a thing.
6 Now people call this place Topheth and the Valley of Hinnom. But I give you this warning. This message is from the Lord: The days are coming, when people will call this place the Valley of Slaughter.
7 At this place, I will ruin the plans of the people of Judah and Jerusalem. The enemy will chase them, and I will let the people of Judah be killed with swords in this place. I will make their dead bodies food for the birds and wild animals.
8 I will completely destroy this city. People will whistle and shake their heads when they pass by Jerusalem. They will be shocked when they see how the city was destroyed.
9 The enemy will bring its army around the city. That army will not let people go out to get food, so the people in the city will begin to starve. They will become so hungry that they will eat the bodies of their own sons and daughters, and then they will begin to eat each other.'
10 "Jeremiah, tell that to the people, and while they are watching, break the jar.
11 Then say this: 'The Lord All-Powerful says, I will break the nation of Judah and the city of Jerusalem just as someone breaking a clay jar! This jar cannot be put back together again. It will be the same for the nation of Judah. The dead people will be buried here in Topheth until there is no more room.
12 I will do this to these people and to this place. I will make this city like Topheth.' This message is from the Lord.
13 'The houses in Jerusalem will become as "dirty" as this place, Topheth. The kings' palaces will be ruined like this place, Topheth, because the people worshiped false gods on the roofs of their houses. They worshiped the stars and burned sacrifices to honor them. They gave drink offerings to false gods.'"
14 Then Jeremiah left Topheth where the Lord had told him to speak. Jeremiah went to the Lord's Temple and stood in the courtyard of the Temple. Jeremiah said to all the people:
15 "This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel says: 'I said I would bring many disasters to Jerusalem and the villages around it. I will soon make this happen because the people are very stubborn. They refuse to listen and obey me.'"

2 And go forth H3318 unto H413 PREP the valley H1516 of the son H1121 CMS of Hinnom H2011 , which H834 RPRO is by the entry H6607 CMS of the east H2777 gate H8179 NMS , and proclaim H7121 there H8033 the words H1697 AMP that H834 RPRO I shall tell H1696 VPY1MS thee ,
3 And say H559 , Hear H8085 VQI2MP ye the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , O kings H4428 CMP of Judah H3063 , and inhabitants H3427 of Jerusalem H3389 ; Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Behold H2009 , I will bring H935 VHPMS evil H7451 AFS upon H5921 PREP this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 D-NMS , the which H834 RPRO whosoever H3605 NMS heareth H8085 VQI2MP , his ears H241 shall tingle H6750 .
4 Because H3282 ADV they have forsaken H5800 me , and have estranged H5234 this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 D-NMS , and have burned incense H6999 in it unto other H312 AMP gods H430 , whom H834 RPRO neither H3808 ADV they H1992 PPRO-3MP nor their fathers H1 have known H3045 , nor the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 , and have filled H4390 this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 D-NMS with the blood H1818 CMS of innocents H5355 ;
5 They have built H1129 also the high places H1116 of Baal H1168 , to burn H8313 their sons H1121 with fire H784 for burnt offerings H5930 CFP unto Baal H1168 , which H834 RPRO I commanded H6680 not H3808 ADV , nor H3808 W-NADV spoke H1696 it , neither H3808 W-NADV came H5927 VQQ3FS it into H5921 PREP my mind H3820 :
6 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV be called H7121 VNY3MS Tophet H8612 , nor The valley H1516 of the son H1121 CMS of Hinnom H2011 , but H518 PART The valley H1516 of slaughter H2028 .
7 And I will make void H1238 the counsel H6098 CFS of Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389 in this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 ; and I will cause them to fall H5307 by the sword H2719 before H6440 L-CMP their enemies H341 , and by the hands H3027 of them that seek H1245 their lives H5315 CFS-3MP : and their carcasses H5038 will I give H5414 to be meat H3978 for the fowls H5775 of the heaven H8064 D-NMD , and for the beasts H929 of the earth H776 D-GFS .
8 And I will make H7760 W-VQQ1MS this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS desolate H8047 , and a hissing H8322 ; every one H3605 NMS that passeth H5674 thereby H5921 PREP shall be astonished H8074 and hiss H8319 W-VQY3MS because H5921 PREP of all H3605 NMS the plagues H4347 thereof .
9 And I will cause them to eat H398 the flesh H1320 CMS of their sons H1121 and the flesh H1320 CMS of their daughters H1323 , and they shall eat H398 every one H376 W-NMS the flesh H1320 CMS of his friend H7453 NMS-3MS in the siege H4692 and straitness H4689 , wherewith H834 RPRO their enemies H341 , and they that seek H1245 their lives H5315 , shall straiten H6693 them .
10 Then shalt thou break H7665 the bottle H1228 in the sight H5869 of the men H376 that go H1980 with H854 thee ,
11 And shalt say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MP them , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 ; Even so H3602 ADV will I break H7665 this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 and this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS , as H834 RPRO one breaketh H7665 a potter H3335 \'s vessel H3627 CMS , that H834 RPRO cannot H3201 VQY3MS be made whole H7495 again H5750 ADV : and they shall bury H6912 them in Tophet H8612 , till there be no H369 place H4725 NUM-MS to bury H6912 .
12 Thus H3651 ADV will I do H6213 unto this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , and to the inhabitants H3427 thereof , and even make H5414 this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS as Tophet H8612 :
13 And the houses H1004 of Jerusalem H3389 , and the houses H1004 of the kings H4428 CMP of Judah H3063 , shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS defiled H2931 as the place H4725 of Tophet H8612 , because of all H3605 the houses H1004 upon H5921 PREP whose H834 RPRO roofs H1406 they have burned incense H6999 unto all H3605 the host H6635 of heaven H8064 D-NMD , and have poured out H5258 drink offerings H5262 unto other H312 gods H430 .
14 Then came H935 W-VQY3MS Jeremiah H3414 from Tophet H8612 , whither H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had sent H7971 him to prophesy H5012 ; and he stood H5975 in the court H2691 of the LORD H3068 EDS \'s house H1004 CMS ; and said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the people H5971 D-NMS ,
15 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; Behold H2009 , I will bring H935 upon H413 PREP this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS and upon H5921 W-PREP all H3605 NMS her towns H5892 all H3605 NMS the evil H7451 D-AFS that H834 RPRO I have pronounced H1696 VPQ1MS against H5921 PREP-3FS it , because H3588 CONJ they have hardened H7185 their necks H6203 , that they might not H1115 L-NPAR hear H8085 my words H1697 .
