2 Chronicles 31:21 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 When the Passover celebration was finished, the Israelites who were in Jerusalem for Passover went out to the towns of Judah. Then they smashed the stone idols that were in the towns. These stone idols were used to worship false gods. They also cut down the Asherah poles. And they destroyed the high places and the altars all through the areas of Judah and Benjamin. They did the same things in the area of Ephraim and Manasseh. They did these things until they destroyed all the things used for worshiping the false gods. Then all the Israelites went back home to their own towns.
2 The priests and Levites had been divided into groups, and each group had its own special job to do. So King Hezekiah told these groups to begin doing their jobs again. So the priests and Levites again had the job of offering the burnt offerings and the fellowship offerings. And they had the job of serving in the Temple and singing and praising God by the doors to the Lord's house.
3 Hezekiah gave some of his own animals to be offered as the burnt offerings. These animals were used for the daily burnt offerings that were given each morning and each evening. They were offered on the Sabbath days, during New Moon celebrations, and on the other special meeting days as the law of the Lord commands.
4 The people were supposed to give a part of their crops and things to the priests and Levites. So Hezekiah commanded the people living in Jerusalem to give them their share. In that way the priests and Levites could spend all of their time doing what the law told them to do.
5 People all around the country heard about this command. So the Israelites gave the first part of their harvest of grain, grapes, oil, honey, and all the things they grew in their fields. They brought one-tenth of all these many things.
6 The men of Israel and Judah living in the towns of Judah also brought onetenth of their cattle and sheep. They also brought one-tenth of the things that were put in a special place that was only for the Lord. All these things they brought to the Lord their God. They put all these things in piles.
7 The people began to bring these things in the third month and they finished bringing the collection in the seventh month.
8 When Hezekiah and the leaders came, they saw the piles of things that were collected. They praised the Lord and his people, the Israelites.
9 Then Hezekiah asked the priests and the Levites about the piles of things.
10 Azariah the high priest from Zadok's family said to Hezekiah, "From the time that the people started bringing the offerings into the Lord's house, we have had plenty to eat. We have eaten until we are full and there is still plenty left over! The Lord has really blessed his people. That is why we have so much left over."
11 Then Hezekiah commanded the priests to make storerooms ready in the Lord's Temple. So this was done.
12 Then the priests brought the offerings, tithes, and other things that were to be given only to the Lord. All these things collected were put in the storerooms in the Temple. Conaniah the Levite was in charge of everything that was collected. Shimei was second in charge of these things. Shimei was Conaniah's brother.
13 Conaniah and his brother Shimei were supervisors of these men: Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismakiah, Mahath, and Benaiah. Hezekiah the king and Azariah the official in charge of God's Temple chose these men.
14 Kore was in charge of the offerings that the people freely gave to God. He was responsible for giving out the collections that were given to the Lord. And he was responsible for giving out the gifts that were made holy for the Lord. Kore was the gatekeeper at the East Gate. His father's name was Imnah the Levite.
15 Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah helped Kore. These men served faithfully in the towns where the priests were living. They gave the collection of things to their relatives in each group of priests. They gave the same things to the more important people and to the less important.
16 These men also gave the collection of things to the males three years old and older who had their names in the Levite family histories. All these males were to enter the Lord's Temple for daily service to do the things they were responsible to do. Each group of Levites had their own responsibility.
17 The priests were given their part of the collection. This was done by families, in the way they were listed in the family histories. The Levites who were 20 years old and older were given their part of the collection, according to their groups and responsibilities.
18 The Levites' babies, wives, sons, and daughters also got part of the collection. This was done for all the Levites who were listed in the family histories. This was because the Levites were faithful to always keep themselves holy and ready for service.
19 Some of Aaron's descendants, the priests, lived in towns or on farms near the towns where the Levites were living. Men were chosen by name in each of these towns to give part of the collection to these descendants of Aaron. All the males and those named in the family histories of the Levites got part of the collection.
20 So King Hezekiah did those good things in all Judah. He did what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God.
21 He had success in every work he began—the service of God's Temple and in obeying the law and commands, and in following his God. Hezekiah did all these things with all his heart.

Then all H3605 NMS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 returned H7725 , every man H376 NMS to his possession H272 , into their own cities H5892 .
2 And Hezekiah H3169 appointed H5975 W-VHY3MS the courses H4256 of the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 after H5921 PREP their courses H4256 , every man H376 NMS according to H6310 K-CMS his service H5656 , the priests H3548 and Levites H3881 for burnt offerings H5930 and for peace offerings H8002 , to minister H8334 , and to give thanks H3034 , and to praise H1984 in the gates H8179 of the tents H4264 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
3 He appointed also the king H4428 D-NMS \'s portion H4521 of H4480 PREP his substance H7399 for the burnt offerings H5930 , to wit , for the morning H1242 and evening H6153 burnt offerings H5930 , and the burnt offerings H5930 for the sabbaths H7676 , and for the new moons H2320 , and for the set feasts H4150 , as it is written H3789 in the law H8451 B-CFS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
4 Moreover he commanded H559 W-VQY3MS the people H5971 that dwelt H3427 in Jerusalem H3389 to give H5414 L-VQFC the portion H4521 of the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 , that H4616 L-CONJ they might be encouraged H2388 in the law H8451 B-CFS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
5 And as soon as the commandment H1697 D-NMS came abroad H6555 , the children H1121 of Israel H3478 brought in abundance H7235 the firstfruits H7225 CFS of corn H1715 , wine H8492 , and oil H3323 , and honey H1706 , and of all H3605 W-CMS the increase H8393 of the field H7704 ; and the tithe H4643 of all H3605 things brought they in H935 abundantly H7230 LD-NMS .
6 And concerning the children H1121 W-CMP of Israel H3478 and Judah H3063 , that dwelt H3427 in the cities H5892 B-CFP of Judah H3063 , they H1992 PPRO-3MP also H1571 CONJ brought in H935 the tithe H4643 of oxen H1241 NMS and sheep H6629 , and the tithe H4643 of holy things H6944 which were consecrated H6942 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS their God H430 , and laid H5414 them by heaps H6194 .
7 In the third H7992 month H2320 BD-NMS they began H2490 to lay the foundation H3245 of the heaps H6194 , and finished H3615 them in the seventh H7637 D-ONUM month H2320 WBD-NMS .
8 And when Hezekiah H3169 and the princes H8269 came H935 W-VQY3MP and saw H7200 W-VQY3MP the heaps H6194 , they blessed H1288 the LORD H3068 EDS , and his people H5971 Israel H3478 LMS .
9 Then Hezekiah H3169 questioned H1875 with H5921 PREP the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 concerning H5921 PREP the heaps H6194 .
10 And Azariah H5838 the chief H7218 priest H3548 of the house H1004 of Zadok H6659 answered H559 W-VQY3MS him , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Since the people began H2490 to bring H935 the offerings H8641 into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , we have had enough H7646 to eat H398 , and have left H3498 plenty H7230 : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath blessed H1288 VPQ3MS his people H5971 ; and that which is left H3498 is this H2088 D-PMS great store H1995 .
11 Then Hezekiah H3169 commanded H559 W-VQY3MS to prepare H3559 chambers H3957 in the house H1004 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS ; and they prepared H3559 them ,
12 And brought in the offerings H8641 and the tithes H4643 and the dedicated H6944 things faithfully H530 : over H5921 which Cononiah H3562 the Levite H3878 was ruler H5057 NMS , and Shimei H8096 his brother H251 was the next H4932 .
13 And Jehiel H3171 , and Azaziah H5812 , and Nahath H5184 , and Asahel H6214 , and Jerimoth H3406 , and Jozabad H3107 , and Eliel H447 , and Ismachiah H3253 , and Mahath H4287 , and Benaiah H1141 , were overseers H6496 under the hand H3027 M-GFS of Cononiah H3562 and Shimei H8096 his brother H251 CMS-3MS , at the commandment H4662 of Hezekiah H3169 the king H4428 D-NMS , and Azariah H5838 the ruler H5057 of the house H1004 CMS of God H430 .
14 And Kore H6981 the son H1121 CMS of Imnah H3232 the Levite H3778 , the porter H7778 toward the east H4217 , was over H5921 PREP the freewill offerings H5071 of God H430 D-EDP , to distribute H5414 L-VQFC the oblations H8641 of the LORD H3068 EDS , and the most holy things H6944 .
15 And next H5921 W-PREP him were Eden H5731 GFS , and Miniamin H4509 , and Jeshua H3442 , and Shemaiah H8098 , Amariah H568 , and Shecaniah H7935 , in the cities H5892 B-CFP of the priests H3548 , in their set office H530 , to give H5414 L-VQFC to their brethren H251 by courses H4256 , as well to the great H1419 as to the small H6996 :
16 Beside H905 ML-NMS their genealogy H3187 of males H2145 , from three H7969 MFS years H8141 NFP old H1121 and upward H4605 , even unto every one H3605 L-CMS that entereth H935 into the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 EDS , his daily H3117 NMS portion H1697 for their service H5656 in their charges H4931 according to their courses H4256 ;
17 Both to H854 the genealogy H3187 of the priests H3548 by the house H1004 of their fathers H1 , and the Levites H3881 from twenty H6242 years H8141 NFS old H1121 and upward H4605 , in their charges H4931 by their courses H4256 ;
18 And to the genealogy H3187 of all H3605 B-CMS their little ones H2945 , their wives H802 , and their sons H1121 , and their daughters H1323 , through all H3605 L-CMS the congregation H6951 : for H3588 CONJ in their set office H530 they sanctified themselves H6942 in holiness H6944 :
19 Also of the sons H1121 of Aaron H175 the priests H3548 , which were in the fields H7704 of the suburbs H4054 of their cities H5892 , in every H3605 B-CMS several city H5892 GFS , the men H376 NMP that H834 RPRO were expressed H5344 by name H8034 , to give H5414 L-VQFC portions H4490 to all H3605 L-CMS the males H2145 NMS among the priests H3548 , and to all H3605 that were reckoned by genealogies H3187 among the Levites H3881 .
20 And thus H2063 did H6213 W-VQY3MS Hezekiah H3169 throughout all H3605 B-CMS Judah H3063 , and wrought H6213 W-VQY3MS that which was good H2896 D-NMS and right H3477 and truth H571 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS his God H430 .
21 And in every H3605 work H4639 NMS that H834 RPRO he began H2490 VHQ3MS in the service H5656 of the house H1004 CMS of God H430 D-EDP , and in the law H8451 , and in the commandments H4687 , to seek H1875 L-VQFC his God H430 , he did H6213 VQQ3MS it with all H3605 B-CMS his heart H3824 , and prospered H6743 .
