2 Chronicles 24:6 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Joash was seven years old when he became king. He ruled 40 years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah. Zibiah was from the town of Beersheba.
2 Joash did right in front of the Lord as long as Jehoiada the priest was living.
3 Jehoiada chose two wives for Joash. Joash had sons and daughters.
4 Then later on, Joash decided to rebuild the Lord's Temple.
5 Joash called the priests and the Levites together. He said to them, "Go out to the towns of Judah and gather the money all the Israelites pay every year. Use that money to rebuild your God's Temple. Hurry and do this." But the Levites didn't hurry.
6 So King Joash called Jehoiada the leading priest. The king said, "Jehoiada, why haven't you made the Levites bring in the tax money from Judah and Jerusalem? Moses the Lord's servant and the Israelites used that tax money for the Tent of the Agreement. "
7 In the past, Athaliah's sons broke into God's Temple and used the holy things in the Lord's Temple for their worship of the Baal gods. Athaliah was a very wicked woman.
8 King Joash gave a command for a box to be made and put outside the gate at the Lord's Temple.
9 Then the Levites made an announcement in Judah and Jerusalem. They told the people to bring in the tax money for the Lord. That tax money is what Moses the servant of God had required the Israelites to give while they were in the desert.
10 All the leaders and the people were happy. They brought their money and put it in the box. They continued giving until the box was full.
11 Then the Levites would take the box to the king's officials. They saw that the box was full of money. The king's secretary and the leading priest's officer came and took the money out of the box. Then they took the box back to its place again. They did this often and gathered much money.
12 Then King Joash and Jehoiada gave the money to the people who worked on the Lord's Temple. And the people who worked on the Lord's Temple hired skilled woodcarvers and carpenters to rebuild the Lord's Temple. They also hired workers who knew how to work with iron and bronze to rebuild the Lord's Temple.
13 The men who supervised the work were very faithful. The work to rebuild the Lord's Temple was successful. They built God's Temple the way it was before and they made it stronger.
14 When the workers finished, they brought the money that was left to King Joash and Jehoiada. They used that money to make things for the Lord's Temple. These things were used for the service in the Temple and for offering burnt offerings. They also made bowls and other things from gold and silver. The priests offered burnt offerings in the Lord's Temple every day while Jehoiada was alive.
15 Jehoiada became old. He had a very long life, and he died when he was 130 years old.
16 The people buried Jehoiada in the City of David where the kings are buried. The people buried Jehoiada there because in his life he did much good in Israel for God and for God's Temple.
17 After Jehoiada died, the leaders of Judah came and bowed to King Joash. The king listened to the leaders.
18 The king and these leaders rejected the Temple of the Lord God. Their ancestors followed the Lord God. They worshiped the Asherah poles and other idols. God was angry with the people of Judah and Jerusalem because the king and those leaders were guilty.
19 God sent prophets to the people to bring them back to the Lord. The prophets warned them, but they refused to listen.
20 The Spirit of God filled Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood in front of the people and said, "This is what God says: 'Why do you people refuse to obey the Lord's commands? You will not be successful. You have left the Lord. So the Lord has also left you!'"
21 But the people made plans against Zechariah. The king commanded the people to kill Zechariah, so they threw rocks at him until he died. The people did this in the Temple yard.
22 Joash the king didn't remember Jehoiada's kindness to him. Jehoiada was Zechariah's father. But Joash killed Zechariah, Jehoiada's son. Before Zechariah died, he said, "May the Lord see what you are doing and punish you!"
23 At the end of the year, the Aramean army came against Joash. They attacked Judah and Jerusalem and killed all the leaders of the people. They sent all the valuable things to the king of Damascus.
24 The Aramean army came with a small group of men, but the Lord let them defeat a very large army from Judah. The Lord did this because the people of Judah left the Lord God their ancestors followed. So Joash was punished.
25 When the Arameans left Joash, he was badly wounded. His own servants made plans against him. They did this because Joash killed Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest. The servants killed Joash on his own bed. After he died, the people buried him in the City of David. But they didn't bury him in the place where the kings are buried.
26 These are the servants who made plans against Joash: Zabad and Jehozabad. Zabad's mother's name was Shimeath. Shimeath was from Ammon. And Jehozabad's mother's name was Shimrith. Shimrith was from Moab.
27 The story about Joash's sons, the great prophecies against him, and how he rebuilt God's Temple are written in the book, Commentary on the Kings. Joash's son Amaziah became the new king after him.

3 And Jehoiada H3077 took H5375 W-VQY3MS for him two H8147 wives H802 GFP ; and he begot H3205 W-VHY3MS sons H1121 NMP and daughters H1323 W-CFP .
4 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS after H310 this H3651 , that Joash H3101 was H1961 VQQ3MS minded H5973 PREP to repair H2318 the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
5 And he gathered together H6908 the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS to them , Go out H3318 unto the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 , and gather H6908 of all H3605 M-CMS Israel H3478 money H3701 NMS to repair H2388 the house H1004 CMS of your God H430 from year H8141 NFS to year H8141 , and see that ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP hasten H4116 the matter H1697 . Howbeit the Levites H3881 hastened H4116 it not H3808 W-NPAR .
6 And the king H4428 D-NMS called H7121 W-VQY3MS for Jehoiada H3077 the chief H7218 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Why H4069 IPRO hast thou not H3808 ADV required H1875 of H5921 PREP the Levites H3881 to bring in H935 L-VHFC out of Judah H3063 and out of Jerusalem H3389 the collection H4864 , according to the commandment of Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the LORD H3068 EDS , and of the congregation H6951 of Israel H3478 , for the tabernacle H168 of witness H5715 ?
7 For H3588 CONJ the sons H1121 CMP-3FS of Athaliah H6271 , that wicked woman H4849 , had broken up H6555 the house H1004 CMS of God H430 D-EDP ; and also H1571 W-CONJ all H3605 NMS the dedicated things H6944 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS did they bestow H6213 VQQ3MP upon Baalim H1168 .
8 And at the king H4428 D-NMS \'s commandment H559 W-VQY3MS they made H6213 W-EMS a H259 MMS chest H727 , and set H5414 it without H2351 at the gate H8179 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS .
9 And they made H5414 W-VQY3MP a proclamation H6963 CMS through Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389 , to bring in H935 L-VHFC to the LORD H3068 L-EDS the collection H4864 that Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of God H430 D-EDP laid upon H5921 PREP Israel H3478 in the wilderness H4057 .
10 And all H3605 CMS the princes H8269 and all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 rejoiced H8055 , and brought in H935 , and cast H7993 into the chest H727 , until H5704 PREP they had made an end H3615 .
11 Now it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that at what time H6256 the chest H727 was brought H935 unto H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS \'s office H6486 by the hand H3027 B-CFS of the Levites H3881 , and when they saw H7200 that H3588 CONJ there was much H7227 AMS money H3701 , the king H4428 D-NMS \'s scribe H5608 and the high H7218 priest H3548 \'s officer H6496 came H935 and emptied H6168 the chest H727 , and took H5375 it , and carried H7725 it to H413 PREP his place H4725 again . Thus H3541 they did H6213 VQQ3MP day H3117 B-NMS by day H3117 B-NMS , and gathered H622 money H3701 in abundance H7230 .
12 And the king H4428 D-NMS and Jehoiada H3077 gave H5414 it to H413 PREP such as did H6213 the work H4399 of the service H5656 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and hired H1961 W-VQY3MP masons H2672 and carpenters H2796 to repair H2318 the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and also H1571 W-CONJ such as wrought H2796 iron H1270 and brass H5178 to mend H2388 the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
13 So the workmen H6213 W-EMS wrought H6213 , and the work H4399 was perfected H5927 W-VHY2MS by H3027 them , and they set H5975 the house H1004 CMS of God H430 D-NAME-4MP in H5921 PREP his state H4971 , and strengthened H553 it .
14 And when they had finished H3615 it , they brought H935 the rest H7605 of the money H3701 before H6440 L-CMP the king H4428 D-NMS and Jehoiada H3077 , whereof were made H6213 vessels H3627 for the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 EDS , even vessels H3627 to minister H8335 , and to offer H5927 withal , and spoons H3709 , and vessels H3627 of gold H2091 NMS and silver H3701 . And they offered H5927 burnt offerings H5930 CFP in the house H1004 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS continually H8548 all H3605 NMS the days H3117 CMP of Jehoiada H3077 .
15 But Jehoiada H3077 waxed old H2204 , and was full H7646 of days H3117 NMP when he died H4191 ; a hundred H3967 MFS and thirty H7970 W-MMP years H8141 NFS old H1121 was he when he died H4194 .
16 And they buried H6912 him in the city H5892 of David H1732 among H5973 PREP the kings H4428 , because H3588 CONJ he had done H6213 VQQ3MS good H2896 NFS in Israel H3478 , both toward H5973 God H430 D-EDP , and toward his house H1004 .
17 Now after H310 the death H4194 of Jehoiada H3077 came H935 VQQ3MP the princes H8269 CMP of Judah H3063 , and made obeisance H7812 to the king H4428 . Then H227 ADV the king H4428 D-NMS hearkened H8085 unto H413 them .
18 And they left H5800 the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 , and served H5647 groves H842 and idols H6091 : and wrath H7110 came H1961 W-VPY3MS upon H5921 PREP Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389 for this H2063 their trespass H819 .
19 Yet he sent H7971 W-VQY3MS prophets H5030 to them , to bring them again H7725 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS ; and they testified H5749 against them : but they would not H3808 W-NPAR give ear H238 .
20 And the Spirit H7307 W-GFS of God H430 EDP came upon H3847 Zechariah H2148 the son H1121 of Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 , which stood H5975 above H5921 M-PREP the people H5971 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto them , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS God H430 NAME-4MP , Why H4100 L-IGAT transgress H5674 ye H859 PPRO-2MS the commandments H4687 of the LORD H3068 EDS , that ye cannot H3808 W-NPAR prosper H6743 ? because H3588 CONJ ye have forsaken H5800 the LORD H3068 EDS , he hath also forsaken H5800 you .
21 And they conspired H7194 against H5921 PREP-3MS him , and stoned H7275 him with stones H68 GFS at the commandment H4687 of the king H4428 D-NMS in the court H2691 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
22 Thus Joash H3101 the king H4428 D-NMS remembered H2142 not H3808 W-NPAR the kindness H2617 which H834 RPRO Jehoiada H3077 his father H1 CMS-3MS had done H6213 VQQ3MS to H5973 PREP-3MS him , but slew H2026 his son H1121 CMS-3MS . And when he died H4191 , he said H559 VQQ3MS , The LORD H3068 EDS look upon H7200 VQI3MS it , and require H1875 it .
23 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS at the end H8622 of the year H8141 , that the host H2428 of Syria H758 EMS came up H5927 against H5921 PREP-3MS him : and they came H935 W-VQY3MP to H413 PREP Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389 , and destroyed H7843 all H3605 NMS the princes H8269 CMP of the people H5971 from among the people H5971 , and sent H7971 all H3605 NMS the spoil H7998 of them unto the king H4428 L-CMS of Damascus H1834 .
24 For H3588 CONJ the army H2428 NMS of the Syrians H758 EMS came H935 VQQ3MP with a small company H4705 of men H376 , and the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS delivered H5414 VQQ3MS a very H3966 ADV great H7230 LD-NMS host H2428 NMS into their hand H3027 , because H3588 CONJ they had forsaken H5800 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 . So they executed H6213 VQQ3MP judgment H8201 against H854 W-PART Joash H3101 .
25 And when they were departed H1980 from H4480 M-PREP-3MS him H3588 CONJ , ( CONJ for CONJ they left H5800 him in great H7227 AMP diseases H4251 , ) his own servants H5650 conspired H7194 against H5921 PREP-3MS him for the blood H1818 of the sons H1121 of Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 , and slew H2026 him on H5921 PREP-3MS his bed H4296 , and he died H4191 : and they buried H6912 him in the city H5892 of David H1732 , but they buried H6912 him not H3808 W-NPAR in the sepulchers H6913 of the kings H4428 .
26 And these H428 W-PMP are they that conspired H7194 against H5921 PREP-3MS him ; Zabad H2066 the son H1121 of Shimeath H8100 an Ammonitess H5984 , and Jehozabad H3075 the son H1121 of Shimrith H8116 a Moabitess H4125 .
27 Now concerning his sons H1121 W-CMP-3MS , and the greatness H7230 of the burdens H4853 laid upon H5921 PREP-3MS him , and the repairing H3247 of the house H1004 CMS of God H430 D-EDP , behold H2009 , they are written H3789 in H5921 PREP-3MS the story H4097 of the book H5612 CMS of the kings H4428 . And Amaziah H558 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
