2 Peter 2:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 In the past there were false prophets among God's people. It is the same now. You will have some false teachers in your group. They will teach things that are wrong—ideas that will cause people to be lost. And they will teach in a way that will be hard for you to see that they are wrong. They will even refuse to follow the Master who bought their freedom. And so they will quickly destroy themselves.
2 Many people will follow them in the morally wrong things they do. And because of them, others will say bad things about the way of truth we follow.
3 These false teachers only want your money. So they will use you by telling you things that are not true. But the judgment against these false teachers has been ready for a long time. And they will not escape God who will destroy them.
4 When angels sinned, God did not let them go free without punishment. He sent them to hell. He put those angels in caves of darkness, where they are being held until the time when God will judge them.
5 And God punished the evil people who lived long ago. He brought a flood to the world that was full of people who were against God. But he saved Noah and seven other people with him. Noah was a man who told people about living right.
6 God also punished the evil cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He burned them until there was nothing left but ashes. He used those cities as an example of what will happen to people who are against God.
7 But he saved Lot, a good man who lived there. Lot was greatly troubled by the morally bad lives of those evil people.
8 This good man lived with those evil people every day, and his good heart was hurt by the evil things he saw and heard.
9 So you see that the Lord God knows how to save those who are devoted to him. He will save them when troubles come. And the Lord will hold evil people to punish them on the day of judgment.
10 That punishment is for those who are always doing the evil that their sinful selves want to do. It is for those who hate the Lord's authority. These false teachers do whatever they want, and they are so proud of themselves. They are not afraid even to say bad things against the glorious ones.
11 The angels are much stronger and more powerful than these beings. But even the angels don't accuse them and say bad things about them to the Lord.
12 But these false teachers speak evil against what they don't understand. They are like animals that do things without really thinking—like wild animals that are born to be caught and killed. And, like wild animals, they will be destroyed.
13 They have made many people suffer. So they themselves will suffer. That is their pay for what they have done. They think it is fun to do evil where everyone can see them. They enjoy the evil things that please them. So they are like dirty spots and stains among you— they bring shame to you in the meals you eat together.
14 Every time they look at a woman, they want her. They are always sinning this way. And they lead weaker people into the trap of sin. They have taught themselves well to be greedy. They are under a curse.
15 These false teachers left the right way and went the wrong way. They followed the same way that the prophet Balaam went. He was the son of Beor, who loved being paid for doing wrong.
16 But a donkey told him that he was doing wrong. A donkey cannot talk, of course, but that donkey spoke with a man's voice and stopped the prophet from acting so crazy.
17 These false teachers are like springs that have no water. They are like clouds that are blown by a storm. A place in the deepest darkness has been kept for them.
18 They boast with words that mean nothing. They lead people into the trap of sin. They find people who have just escaped from a wrong way of life and lead them back into sin. They do this by using the evil things people want to do in their human weakness.
19 These false teachers promise those people freedom, but they themselves are not free. They are slaves to a mind that has been ruined by sin. Yes, people are slaves to anything that controls them.
20 People can be made free from the evil in the world. They can be made free by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But if they go back into those evil things and are controlled by them, then it is worse for them than it was before.
21 Yes, it would be better for them to have never known the right way. That would be better than to know the right way and then to turn away from the holy teaching that was given to them.
22 What they did is like these true sayings: "A dog vomits and goes back to what it threw up." And, "After a pig is washed, it goes back and rolls in the mud again."
1 But G1161 CONJ there were G1096 V-2ADI-3P false prophets G5578 N-NPM also G2532 CONJ among G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM people G2992 N-DSM , even G2532 CONJ as G5613 ADV there shall be G2071 V-FXI-3P false teachers G5572 N-NPM among G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , who G3748 R-NPM privily shall bring in G3919 V-FAI-3P damnable G684 N-GSF heresies G139 N-APF , even G2532 CONJ denying G720 V-PNP-NPM the G3588 T-ASM Lord G1203 N-ASM that bought G59 V-AAP-ASM them G846 P-APM , and bring upon G1863 V-PAP-NPM themselves G1438 F-3DPM swift G5031 A-ASF destruction G684 N-ASF .
2 And G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM shall follow G1811 V-FAI-3P their G846 P-GPM pernicious ways G684 ; by reason of G1223 PREP whom G3739 R-APM the G3588 T-NSF way G3598 N-NSF of truth G225 N-GSF shall be evil spoken of G987 V-FPI-3S .
3 And G2532 CONJ through G1722 PREP covetousness G4124 N-DSF shall they with feigned G4112 A-DPM words G3056 N-DPM make merchandise G1710 V-FDI-3P of you G5209 P-2AP : whose G3739 R-DPM judgment G2917 N-NSN now of a long time G1597 ADV lingereth G691 V-PAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N , and G2532 CONJ their G3588 T-NSF damnation G684 N-NSF slumbereth G3573 V-FAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N .
4 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND God G2316 N-NSM spared G5339 V-ADI-3S not G3756 PRT-N the angels G32 N-GPM that sinned G264 V-AAP-GPM , but G235 CONJ cast them down to hell G5020 V-AAP-NSM , and delivered G3860 V-AAI-3S them into chains G4577 N-DPF of darkness G2217 N-GSM , to be reserved G5083 V-PPP-APM unto G1519 PREP judgment G2920 N-ASF ;
5 And G2532 CONJ spared G5339 V-ADI-3S not G3756 PRT-N the old G744 A-GSM world G2889 N-GSM , but G235 CONJ saved G5442 V-AAI-3S Noah G3575 N-PRI the eighth G3590 A-ASM person , a preacher G2783 N-ASM of righteousness G1343 N-GSF , bringing in G1863 V-AAP-NSM the flood G2627 N-ASM upon the world G2889 N-DSM of the ungodly G765 A-GPM ;
6 And G2532 CONJ turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes G5077 V-AAP-NSM condemned G2632 V-AAI-3S them with an overthrow G2692 N-DSF , making G5087 V-RAP-NSM them an example G5262 N-ASN unto those that after should G3195 V-PAP-GPM live ungodly G764 V-PAN ;
7 And G2532 CONJ delivered G4506 V-ANI-3S just G1342 A-NSN Lot G3091 N-PRI , vexed G2669 V-PPP-ASM with G5259 PREP the G3588 T-GSF filthy conversation G1722 PREP of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM wicked G113 A-GPM :
8 ( CONJ For G3588 T-NSM that righteous man G1342 A-NSM dwelling G1460 V-PAP-NSM among G1722 PREP them G846 P-DPM , in seeing G990 N-DSN and G2532 CONJ hearing G189 N-DSF , vexed G928 V-IAI-3S his righteous G1342 A-ASF soul G5590 N-ASF from day G2250 N-ASF to G1537 PREP day G2250 N-GSF with their unlawful G459 A-DPN deeds G2041 N-DPN ) ;
9 The Lord G2962 N-NSM knoweth G1492 V-RAI-3S how to deliver G4506 V-PNN the godly G2152 A-APM out of G1537 PREP temptations G3986 N-GSM , and G1161 CONJ to reserve G5083 V-PAN the unjust G94 A-APM unto G1519 PREP the day G2250 N-ASF of judgment G2920 N-GSF to be punished G2849 V-PPP-APM :
10 But G1161 CONJ chiefly G3122 ADV them G3588 T-APM that G3588 T-APM walk G4198 V-PNP-APM after G3694 ADV the flesh G4561 N-GSF in G1722 PREP the lust G1939 N-DSF of uncleanness G3394 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ despise G2706 V-PAP-APM government G2963 N-GSF . Presumptuous G5113 N-NPM are they , self G829 A-NPM - willed , they are not G3756 PRT-N afraid G5141 V-PAI-3P to speak evil G987 V-PAP-NPM of dignities G1391 N-APF .
11 Whereas G3699 ADV angels G32 N-NPM , which are G5607 V-PXP-NPM greater G3187 in power G2479 N-DSF and G2532 CONJ might G1411 N-DSF , bring G5342 V-PAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N railing G989 A-ASF accusation G2920 N-ASF against G2596 PREP them G846 P-GPM before G3844 PREP the Lord G2962 N-DSM .
12 But G1161 CONJ these G3778 D-NPM , as G5613 ADV natural G5446 A-NPN brute G249 A-NPN beasts G2226 N-NPN , made G1080 V-RPP-NPN to be taken G1519 PREP and G2532 CONJ destroyed G5356 N-ASF , speak evil G987 V-PAP-NPM of G1722 PREP the things that G3739 R-DPM they understand not G50 V-PAI-3P ; and shall utterly perish G2704 V-2FPI-3P in G1722 PREP their G3588 T-DSF own G848 corruption G5356 N-DSF ;

14 Having G2192 V-PAP-NPM eyes G3788 N-APM full G3324 A-APM of adultery G3428 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ that cannot cease G180 A-APM from sin G266 N-GSF ; beguiling G1185 V-PAP-NPM unstable G793 A-APF souls G5590 N-APF : a heart G2588 N-ASF they have G2192 V-PAP-NPM exercised G1128 V-RPP-ASF with covetous practices G4124 N-GSF ; cursed G2671 N-GSF children G5043 N-NPN :
15 Which have forsaken G2641 V-2AAP-NPM the G3588 T-DSF right G2117 A-ASF way G3598 N-ASF , and are gone astray G4105 V-API-3P , following G1811 V-AAP-NPM the G3588 T-DSF way G3598 N-DSF of Balaam G903 N-PRI the G3588 T-GSM son of Bosor G1007 N-PRI , who G3739 R-NSM loved G25 V-AAI-3S the wages G3408 N-ASM of unrighteousness G93 N-GSF ;
16 But G1161 CONJ was rebuked G1649 N-ASF for his G2398 A-GSF iniquity G3892 N-GSF : the dumb G880 A-NSN ass G5268 N-NSN speaking G5350 V-ANP-NSN with G1722 PREP man G444 N-GSM \'s voice G5456 N-DSF forbade G2967 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-ASF madness G3913 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM prophet G4396 N-GSM .
17 These G3778 D-NPM are G1526 V-PXI-3P wells G4077 N-NPF without water G504 A-NPF , clouds G3507 N-NPF that are carried G1643 V-PPP-NPF with G5259 PREP a tempest G2978 N-GSF : to whom G3739 R-DPM the G3588 T-NSM mist G2217 N-NSM of darkness G4655 N-GSN is reserved G5083 V-RPI-3S forever G1519 PREP .
18 For G1063 CONJ when they speak G5350 V-PDP-NPM great swelling G5246 A-APN words of vanity G3153 N-GSF , they allure G1185 V-PAI-3P through G1722 PREP the lusts G1939 N-DPF of the flesh G4561 N-GSF , through much wantonness G766 N-DPF , those that were clean escaped G668 V-2AAP-APM from them G3588 T-APM who G3588 T-APM live G390 V-PPP-APM in G1722 PREP error G4106 N-DSF .
19 While they promise G1861 V-PNP-NPM them G846 P-DPM liberty G1657 N-ASF , they G846 P-NPM themselves are G5225 V-PAP-NPM the G3588 T-GSF servants G1401 N-NPM of corruption G5356 N-GSF : for G1063 CONJ of whom G3739 R-DSN a man G5100 X-NSM is overcome G2274 V-RNI-3S , of the same G5129 D-DSN is he G2532 CONJ brought in bondage G1402 V-RPI-3S .
20 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND after they have escaped G668 V-2AAP-NPM the G3588 T-APN pollutions G3393 N-APN of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM world G2889 N-GSM through G1722 PREP the knowledge G1922 N-DSF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM Lord G2962 N-GSM and G2532 CONJ Savior G4990 N-GSM Jesus G2424 N-GSM Christ G5547 N-GSM , they are G1161 CONJ again G3825 ADV entangled G1707 V-2APP-NPM therein G5125 D-DPN , and G2532 CONJ overcome G2274 V-PNI-3P , the G3588 T-NPN latter end G2078 A-NPN is G1096 V-2RAI-3S worse G5501 A-NPN with them G846 P-DPM than the G3588 T-GPN beginning G4413 A-GPN .

22 But G1161 CONJ it is happened G4819 V-RAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM according G3588 T-NSN to the G3588 T-GSF true G227 A-GSF proverb G3942 N-GSF , The dog G2965 N-NSM is turned to his own vomit again G1994 V-AAP-NSM ; and G2532 CONJ the sow G5300 N-NSF that was washed G3068 V-AMP-NSF to G1519 PREP her wallowing G2946 N-ASN in the mire G1004 N-GSM .
