1 Chronicles 18:5 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Later, David attacked the Philistines and defeated them. He took the town of Gath and the other small towns around it from the Philistines.
2 Then David defeated the country of Moab. The Moabites became David's servants and brought tribute to him.
3 David also fought against Hadadezer's army. Hadadezer was the king of Zobah. David fought against that army all the way to the town of Hamath. David did this because Hadadezer tried to spread his kingdom all the way to the Euphrates River.
4 David took 1000 chariots, 7000 chariot drivers, and 20,000 soldiers from Hadadezer. David also crippled most of Hadadezer's horses that were used for pulling chariots. But David saved enough horses to pull 100 chariots.
5 The Arameans from the city of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah. But David defeated and killed 22,000 Aramean soldiers.
6 Then David put fortresses in the city of Damascus in Aram. The Arameans became David's servants and brought tribute to him. So the Lord gave victory to David everywhere he went.
7 David took the gold shields from Hadadezer's army leaders and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 David also took much bronze from the towns of Tebah and Cun. These towns belonged to Hadadezer. Later, Solomon used this bronze to make the bronze tank, the bronze columns, and other things made from bronze for the Temple.
9 Tou was king of the city of Hamath. Hadadezer was the king of Zobah. Tou heard that David had defeated all of Hadadezer's army.
10 So Tou sent his son Hadoram to King David to ask for peace and to bless him. He did this because David had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him. Hadadezer had been at war with Tou before. Hadoram gave David all kinds of things made of gold, silver, and bronze.
11 King David made these things holy and gave them to the Lord. David did the same thing with all the silver and gold he had gotten from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalekites.
12 Abishai son of Zeruiah killed 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
13 Abishai also put fortresses in Edom and all the Edomites became David's servants. The Lord gave David victory everywhere he went.
14 David was king over all Israel. He did what was right and fair for everyone.
15 Joab son of Zeruiah was the commander of David's army. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud wrote about the things David did.
16 Zadok and Abimelech were the priests. Zadok was Ahitub's son, and Abimelech was Abiathar's son. Shavsha was the scribe.
17 Benaiah was responsible for leading the Kerethite and Pelethites. Benaiah was Jehoiada's son. And David's sons were important officials. They served at King David's side.
1 Now after H310 PREP this H3651 ADV it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that David H1732 smote H5221 W-VHY3MS the Philistines H6430 TMS , and subdued H3665 them , and took H3947 W-VQY3MS Gath H1661 and her towns H1323 out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of the Philistines H6430 .
2 And he smote H5221 W-VHY3MS Moab H4124 ; and the Moabites H4124 became H1961 W-VQY3MP David H1732 \'s servants H5650 NMP , and brought H5375 gifts H4503 .
3 And David H1732 smote H5221 W-VHY3MS Hadarezer H1928 king H4428 NMS of Zobah H6678 unto Hamath H2574 , as he went H1980 to establish H5324 his dominion H3027 CFS-3MS by the river H5104 Euphrates H6578 .
4 And David H1732 took H3920 from H4480 M-PREP-3MS him a thousand H505 W-BMS chariots H7393 , and seven H7651 W-BMS thousand H505 MMP horsemen H6571 , and twenty H6242 W-MMP thousand H505 W-BMS footmen H376 NMS : David H1732 also hamstrung H6131 all H3605 NMS the chariot H7393 horses , but reserved H3498 of H4480 M-PREP-3MS them a hundred H3967 MFS chariots H7393 .
5 And when the Syrians H758 of Damascus H1834 came H935 W-VQY3MS to help H5826 Hadarezer H1928 king H4428 NMS of Zobah H6678 , David H1732 slew H5221 W-VHY3MS of the Syrians H758 two H8147 and twenty H6242 thousand H505 W-BMS men H376 NMS .
6 Then David H1732 put H7760 W-VQY3MS garrisons in Syria H758 - damascus ; and the Syrians H758 EMS became H1961 W-VQY3MS David H1732 \'s servants H5650 NMP , and brought H5375 gifts H4503 NFS . Thus the LORD H3068 EDS preserved H3467 David H1732 whithersoever H3605 he went H1980 .
7 And David H1732 took H3947 W-VQY3MS the shields H7982 of gold H2091 that H834 RPRO were H1961 VQQ3MP on H5921 PREP the servants H5650 of Hadarezer H1928 , and brought H935 them to Jerusalem H3389 .
8 Likewise from Tibhath H2880 , and from Chun H3560 , cities H5892 of Hadarezer H1928 , brought H3947 VQQ3MS David H1732 very H3966 ADV much H7227 AFS brass H5178 CFS , wherewith Solomon H8010 MMS made H6213 VQQ3MS the brazen H5178 sea H3220 NMS , and the pillars H5982 , and the vessels H3627 of brass H5178 .
9 Now when Tou H8583 king H4428 NMS of Hamath H2574 heard H8085 how H3588 CONJ David H1732 had smitten H5221 all H3605 NMS the host H2428 of Hadarezer H1928 king H4428 NMS of Zobah H6678 ;
10 He sent H7971 W-VQY3MS Hadoram H1913 his son H1121 CMS-3MS to H413 PREP king H4428 David H1732 , to inquire H7592 of his welfare H7965 , and to congratulate H1288 him , because H5921 PREP he had fought H3898 against Hadarezer H1928 , and smitten H5221 him H3588 CONJ ; ( CONJ for CONJ Hadarezer H1928 had war H1961 VQQ3MS with Tou H8583 ; ) and with him all manner H3605 W-CMS of vessels H3627 of gold H2091 NMS and silver H3701 and brass H5178 .
11 Them also H1571 CONJ king H4428 D-NMS David H1732 dedicated H6942 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , with H5973 PREP the silver H3701 and the gold H2091 that H834 RPRO he brought H5375 VQQ3MS from all H3605 M-CMS these nations H1471 D-NMP ; from Edom H123 , and from Moab H4124 , and from the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 , and from the Philistines H6430 , and from Amalek H6002 .
12 Moreover Abishai H52 the son H1121 of Zeruiah H6870 slew H5221 of the Edomites H123 in the valley H1516 of salt H4417 eighteen H8083 thousand H505 MMS .
13 And he put H7760 W-VQY3MS garrisons H5333 in Edom H123 ; and all H3605 CMS the Edomites H123 became H1961 W-VQY3MP David H1732 \'s servants H5650 NMP . Thus the LORD H3068 EDS preserved H3467 David H1732 whithersoever H3605 he went H1980 .
14 So David H1732 reigned H4427 over H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 , and executed H6213 VQPMS judgment H4941 NMS and justice H6666 among all H3605 NMS his people H5971 .
15 And Joab H3097 the son H1121 of Zeruiah H6870 was over H5921 PREP the host H6635 ; and Jehoshaphat H3092 the son H1121 of Ahilud H286 , recorder H2142 .
16 And Zadok H6659 the son H1121 of Ahitub H285 , and Abimelech H40 the son H1121 of Abiathar H54 , were the priests H3548 NMP ; and Shavsha H7798 was scribe H5608 ;
17 And Benaiah H1141 the son H1121 W-CMP of Jehoiada H3111 was over H5921 PREP the Cherethites H3774 and the Pelethites H6432 ; and the sons H1121 W-CMP of David H1732 were chief H7223 about H3027 the king H4428 .
