Numbers 32 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The tribes of Reuben and Gad had many cattle. These people looked at the land near Jazer and Gilead. They saw that this land was good for their cattle.
2 So the people from the tribes of Reuben and Gad came to Moses. They spoke to Moses, Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of the people.
3 They said, "We, your servants, have many cattle. And the land that we have fought against is a good land for cattle. This land includes the area around Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sibmah, Nebo, and Beon.

5 If it pleases you, we would like this land to be given to us. Don't take us to the other side of the Jordan River."
6 Moses told the people from the tribes of Reuben and Gad, "Will you let your brothers go and fight while you settle here?
7 Why are you trying to discourage the Israelites? You will make them not want to cross the river and take the land that the Lord has given to them!
8 Your fathers did the same thing to me. In Kadesh Barnea I sent spies to look at the land.
9 These men went as far as Eshcol Valley. They saw the land, and they discouraged the Israelites. These men made the Israelites not want to go into the land that the Lord had given to them.
10 The Lord became very angry with the people. He made this promise:
11 'None of the people who came from Egypt and are 20 years old or older will be allowed to see this land. I made a promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I promised to give this land to these people, but they did not really follow me.
12 Only Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun really followed the Lord!'
13 "The Lord was very angry with the Israelites. So he made the people stay in the desert for 40 years. He made them stay there until all the people who had sinned against the Lord were dead.
14 And now you are doing the same thing that your fathers did. You sinful people, do you want the Lord to be even more angry with his people?
15 If you stop following the Lord, he will make Israel stay even longer in the desert. Then you will destroy all of these people!"
16 But the people from the tribes of Reuben and Gad went to Moses. They said, "We will build cities for our children and barns for our animals here.
17 Then our children can be safe from the other people who live in this land. But we will gladly come and help the other Israelites. We will bring them to their land.
18 We will not come back home until everyone in Israel has taken his part of the land.
19 We will not take any of the land west of the Jordan River. No, our part of the land is east of the Jordan River."
20 So Moses told them, "If you do all of these things, this land will belong to you. But your soldiers must go before the Lord into battle.
21 Your soldiers must cross the Jordan River and force the enemy to leave the country.
22 After the Lord helps us all take the land, you can go back home. Then the Lord and Israel will not think that you are guilty. Then the Lord will let you have this land.
23 But if you don't do these things, you will be sinning against the Lord. And know for sure that you will be punished for your sin.
24 Build cities for your children and barns for your animals. But then, you must do what you promised."
25 Then the people from the tribes of Gad and Reuben said to Moses, "We are your servants. You are our master, so we will do what you say.
26 Our wives, children, and all our animals will stay in the Gilead cities.
27 But we, your servants, will cross the Jordan River. We will march before the Lord into battle, as our master says."
28 So Moses, Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and all the leaders of the tribes of Israel heard them make that promise.
29 Moses said to them, "The people of Gad and Reuben will cross the Jordan River. They will march before the Lord into battle. They will help you take the land. And you will give the land of Gilead as their part of the country.
30 They promise to help you take the land of Canaan. "
31 The people of Gad and Reuben answered, "We promise to do what the Lord commanded.
32 We will cross the Jordan River and march before the Lord into the land of Canaan. And our part of the country is the land east of the Jordan River."
33 So Moses gave that land to the people of Gad, to the people of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh. (Manasseh was Joseph's son.) That land included the kingdom of Sihon the Amorite and the kingdom of King Og of Bashan and all the cities around that area.
34 The people of Gad built the cities of Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36 Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran. They built cities with strong walls, and they built barns for their animals.
37 The people of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38 Nebo, Baal Meon, and Sibmah. They used the names of the cities that they rebuilt. But they changed the names of Nebo and Baal Meon.
39 People from Makir's family group went to Gilead. (Makir was Manasseh's son.) They defeated the city. They defeated the Amorites who lived there.
40 So Moses gave Gilead to Makir from the tribe of Manasseh, and his family settled there.
41 Jair, from the family of Manasseh, defeated the small towns there. Then he called them Towns of Jair.
42 Nobah defeated Kenath and the small towns near it. Then he called that place by his own name.
1 Now the children H1121 L-CMP of Reuben H7205 and the children H1121 of Gad H1410 had H1961 VQQ3MS a very H3966 ADV great H6099 multitude H7227 AMS of cattle H4735 : and when they saw H7200 W-VQY3MP the land H776 GFS of Jazer H3270 , and the land H776 GFS of Gilead H1568 , that , behold H2009 IJEC , the place H4725 D-NMS was a place H4725 CMS for cattle H4735 ;
2 The children H1121 of Gad H1410 and the children H1121 W-CMP of Reuben H7205 came H935 W-VQY3MP and spoke H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , and to H413 PREP Eleazar H499 the priest H3548 , and unto H413 PREP the princes H5387 of the congregation H5712 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
3 Ataroth H5852 , and Dibon H1769 , and Jazer H3270 , and Nimrah H5247 , and Heshbon H2809 , and Elealeh H500 , and Shebam H7643 , and Nebo H5015 , and Beon H1194 ,
4 Even the country H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS smote H5221 before H6440 L-CMP the congregation H5712 CFS of Israel H3478 , is a land H776 GFS for cattle H4735 NMS , and thy servants H5650 have cattle H4735 :
5 Wherefore , said H559 W-VQY3MP they , if H518 PART we have found H4672 VQQ1MP grace H2580 NMS in thy sight H5869 , let this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS be given H5414 VWY3MS unto thy servants H5650 for a possession H272 , and bring us not over H5674 Jordan H3383 .
6 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto the children H1121 L-CMP of Gad H1410 and to the children H1121 of Reuben H7205 , Shall your brethren H251 go H935 VQY3MP to war H4421 , and shall ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP sit H3427 here H6311 ?
7 And wherefore H4100 WL-IGAT discourage H5106 ye the heart H3820 NMS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 from going over H5674 into H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS hath given H5414 VQQ3MS them ?
8 Thus H3541 did H6213 VQQ3MP your fathers H1 , when I sent H7971 them from Kadesh H6947 - barnea to see H7200 L-VQFC the land H776 D-GFS .
9 For when they went up H5927 unto H5704 PREP the valley H5158 NMS of Eshcol H812 , and saw H7200 W-VQY3MP the land H776 D-GFS , they discouraged H5106 the heart H3820 NMS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , that they should not H1115 L-NPAR go H935 into H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS had given H5414 VQQ3MS them .
10 And the LORD H3068 EDS \'s anger H639 CMS was kindled H2734 the same H1931 D-PPRO-3MS time H3117 B-AMS , and he swore H7650 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
11 Surely H518 PART none of the men H376 D-NMP that came up H5927 out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , from twenty H6242 years H8141 NFS old H1121 and upward H4605 , shall see H7200 VQY3MP the land H127 D-NFS which H834 RPRO I swore H7650 unto Abraham H85 , unto Isaac H3327 , and unto Jacob H3290 ; because H3588 CONJ they have not H3808 NADV wholly H4390 followed H310 me :
12 Save H1115 PREP Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 the Kenezite H7074 , and Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 : for H3588 CONJ they have wholly H4390 followed H310 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
13 And the LORD H3068 EDS \'s anger H639 CMS was kindled H2734 against Israel H3478 , and he made them wander H5128 in the wilderness H4057 forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS , until H5704 PREP all H3605 NMS the generation H1755 , that had done H6213 evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS , was consumed H8552 .
14 And , behold H2009 IJEC , ye are risen up H6965 in your fathers\' stead H8478 NMS , an increase H8635 of sinful H2400 AMP men H376 , to augment H5595 yet H5750 ADV the fierce H2740 CMS anger H639 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS toward H413 PREP Israel H3478 LMS .
15 For H3588 CONJ if ye turn away H7725 from after H310 M-ADV-3MS him , he will yet H5750 ADV again H3254 leave H5117 them in the wilderness H4057 ; and ye shall destroy H7843 all H3605 L-CMS this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 .
16 And they came near H5066 unto H413 PREP-3MS him , and said H559 W-VQY3MP , We will build H1129 VQI1MS sheepfolds H6629 NMS here H6311 ADV for our cattle H4735 , and cities H5892 for our little ones H2945 :
17 But we H587 ourselves will go ready armed H2502 before H6440 L-CMP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , until H5704 PREP we have brought H935 them unto H413 PREP their place H4725 : and our little ones H2945 shall dwell H3427 in the fenced H4013 cities H5892 B-CFP because H6440 L-CMP of the inhabitants H3427 of the land H776 D-GFS .
18 We will not H3808 NADV return H7725 unto H413 PREP our houses H1004 , until H5704 PREP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 have inherited H5157 every man H376 NMS his inheritance H5159 .
19 For H3588 CONJ we will not H3808 NADV inherit H5157 with H854 PREP-3MP them on yonder side H5676 M-CMS Jordan H3383 , or forward H1973 ; because H3588 CONJ our inheritance H5159 is fallen H935 to H413 us on this side H5676 M-CMS Jordan H3383 D-EFS eastward H4217 .
20 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MP them , If H518 PART ye will do H6213 this H2088 D-PMS thing H1697 D-NMS , if H518 PART ye will go armed H2502 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS to war H4421 ,
21 And will go H5674 all H3605 NMS of you armed H2502 over Jordan H3383 D-EFS before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , until H5704 PREP he hath driven out H3423 his enemies H341 from before H6440 L-CMP him ,
22 And the land H776 D-GFS be subdued H3533 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS : then afterward H310 W-ADV ye shall return H7725 VQY2MP , and be H1961 W-VQQ2MP guiltless H5355 before the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS , and before Israel H3478 ; and this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS shall be H1961 W-VQQ3FS your possession H272 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
23 But if H518 W-PART ye will not H3808 NADV do H6213 so H3651 ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , ye have sinned H2398 against the LORD H3068 L-EDS : and be sure H3045 your sin H2403 will find you out H4672 VQY2MS .
24 Build H1129 you cities H5892 GFP for your little ones H2945 , and folds H1448 for your sheep H6792 ; and do H6213 that which hath proceeded out H3318 of your mouth H6310 .
25 And the children H1121 W-CMP of Gad H1410 and the children H1121 W-CMP of Reuben H7205 spoke H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Thy servants H5650 will do H6213 as H834 K-RPRO my lord H113 commandeth H6680 .
26 Our little ones H2945 , our wives H802 , our flocks H4735 , and all H3605 W-CMS our cattle H929 , shall be H1961 there H8033 ADV in the cities H5892 B-CFP of Gilead H1568 :
27 But thy servants H5650 will pass over H5674 , every man H3605 NMS armed H2502 for war H6635 NMS , before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS to battle H4421 , as H834 K-RPRO my lord H113 saith H1696 .
28 So concerning them Moses H4872 commanded H6680 W-VPY3MS Eleazar H499 the priest H3548 , and Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 , and the chief H7218 CMP fathers H1 of the tribes H4294 of the children H1121 L-CMP of Israel H3478 LMS :
29 And Moses H4872 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS them , If H518 PART the children H1121 CMP of Gad H1410 and the children H1121 W-CMP of Reuben H7205 will pass with you over H5674 Jordan H3383 D-EFS , every man H3605 NMS armed H2502 to battle H4421 , before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , and the land H776 D-GFS shall be subdued H3533 before H6440 L-CMP you ; then ye shall give H5414 them the land H776 GFS of Gilead H1568 for a possession H272 :
30 But if H518 W-PART they will not H3808 NADV pass over H5674 with H854 PART-2MP you armed H2502 , they shall have possessions H270 among H8432 you in the land H776 B-GFS of Canaan H3667 LMS .
31 And the children H1121 CMP of Gad H1410 and the children H1121 W-CMP of Reuben H7205 answered H6030 , saying H559 L-VQFC , As H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath said H1696 VPQ3MS unto H413 PREP thy servants H5650 , so H3651 ADV will we do H6213 .
32 We H5168 will pass over H5674 armed H2502 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS into the land H776 GFS of Canaan H3667 EMS , that the possession H272 of our inheritance H5159 on this side H5676 M-CMS Jordan H3383 may be ours .
33 And Moses H4872 gave H5414 W-VQQ3MS unto them , even to the children H1121 L-CMP of Gad H1410 , and to the children H1121 of Reuben H7205 , and unto half H2677 the tribe H7626 CMS of Manasseh H4519 the son H1121 CMS of Joseph H3130 , the kingdom H4467 of Sihon H5511 king H4428 NMS of the Amorites H567 , and the kingdom H4467 of Og H5747 king H4428 NMS of Bashan H1316 , the land H776 D-GFS , with the cities H5892 thereof in the coasts H1367 , even the cities H5892 of the country H776 D-GFS round about H5439 .
34 And the children H1121 CMP of Gad H1410 built H1129 Dibon H1769 , and Ataroth H5852 , and Aroer H6177 ,
35 And Atroth H5852 , Shophan H5855 , and Jaazer H3270 , and Jogbehah H3011 ,
36 And Beth H1039 - nimrah , and Beth H1028 - haran , fenced H4013 cities H5892 : and folds H1448 for sheep H6629 .
37 And the children H1121 W-CMP of Reuben H7205 built H1129 Heshbon H2809 , and Elealeh H500 , and Kirjathaim H7156 EFS ,
38 And Nebo H5015 , and Baal H1186 - meon , (their names H8034 CMS being changed H5437 ) , and H853 PART Shibmah H7643 : and gave other names H7121 W-VQY3MP unto the cities H5892 which H834 RPRO they built H1129 .
39 And the children H1121 of Machir H4353 the son H1121 of Manasseh H4519 went H1980 W-VQY3MP to Gilead H1568 , and took H3920 it , and dispossessed H3423 the Amorite H567 D-TMS which H834 RPRO was in it .
40 And Moses H4872 gave H5414 W-VQQ3MS Gilead H1568 unto Machir H4353 the son H1121 of Manasseh H4519 ; and he dwelt H3427 W-VQY3MS therein .
41 And Jair H2971 the son H1121 of Manasseh H4519 went H1980 VQQ3MS and took H3920 the small towns H2333 thereof , and called H7121 W-VQY3MS them Havoth H2334 - jair .
42 And Nobah H5025 went H1980 VQQ3MS and took H3920 Kenath H7079 , and the villages H1323 thereof , and called H7121 W-VQY3MS it Nobah H5025 , after his own name H8034 .
