Numbers 23 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Balaam said, "Build seven altars here. And prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me."
2 Balak did what that Balaam asked. Then Balak and Balaam killed a ram and a bull on each of the altars.
3 Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stay here near this altar. I will go to another place. Then the Lord will come to me, and he will tell me what I must say." Then Balaam went away to a higher place.
4 God came to Balaam at that place, and Balaam said, "I have prepared seven altars. And I have killed a bull and a ram as a sacrifice on each altar."
5 Then the Lord told Balaam what he should say. Then the Lord said, "Go back to Balak and say the things that I have given you to say."
6 So Balaam went back to Balak. Balak was still standing near the altar, and all the leaders of Moab were standing there with them.
7 Then Balaam said this: Balak, the king of Moab, brought me here from the eastern mountains of Aram. Balak said to me, "Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, speak against the Israelites."
8 But God is not against them, so I cannot speak against them either! The Lord has not asked for bad things to happen to these people. So I cannot do that either.
9 I see these people from the mountain. I see them from the high hills. They live alone. They are not part of another nation.
10 Who can count Jacob's people? They are as many as the grains of dust. No one can count even a fourth of the Israelites. Let me die like a good man. Let my life end as happy as theirs!
11 Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I brought you here to curse my enemies, but you have blessed them!"
12 But Balaam answered, "I must say the things that the Lord tells me to say."
13 Then Balak said to him, "So come with me to another place. At that place you can see more of these people. You cannot see all of them—you can only see part of them. Maybe from that place you can curse them for me."
14 So Balak led Balaam to Watchmen Hills. This was on top of Mount Pisgah. There Balak built seven altars and killed a bull and a ram on each altar as a sacrifice.
15 Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stay here by this altar while I will go meet with God over there."
16 So the Lord came to Balaam and told Balaam what to say. Then he told Balaam to go back to Balak and say these things.
17 So Balaam went to Balak. Balak was still standing near the altar. The leaders of Moab were there with him. Balak saw Balaam coming and said, "What did the Lord say?"
18 Then Balaam said this: "Stand up, Balak, and listen to me. Hear me, Balak son of Zippor.
19 God is not a man; he will not lie. God is not a human being; his decisions will not change. If he says he will do something, then he will do it. If he makes a promise, then he will do what he promised.
20 He told me to bless them. He blessed them, so I cannot change that.
21 God saw no wrong in Jacob's people. He saw no sin in the Israelites. The Lord is their God, and he is with them. The Great King is with them!
22 God brought them out of Egypt. They are as strong as a wild ox.
23 There is no power that can defeat the people of Jacob. There is no magic that can stop the Israelites. People will say this about Jacob and the Israelites: 'Look at the great things God did!'
24 The people are as strong as lions, and they fight like lions. And a lion will not rest until it eats what it has caught, until it drinks the blood of what it has killed."
25 Then Balak said to Balaam, "You didn't ask for good things to happen to these people, but you didn't ask for bad things to happen to them either!"
26 Balaam answered, "I told you before that I can only say what the Lord tells me to say."
27 Then Balak said to Balaam, "So come with me to another place. Maybe God will be pleased and will allow you to curse them from that place."
28 So Balak led Balaam to the top of Mount Peor, which looks out over the desert.
29 Balaam said, "Build seven altars here. Then prepare seven bulls and seven rams for the altars."
30 Balak did what Balaam asked. Balak offered the bulls and rams on the altars.

2 And Balak H1111 did H6213 W-VQY3MS as H834 K-RPRO Balaam H1109 had spoken H1696 VPQ3MS ; and Balak H1111 and Balaam H1109 offered H5927 W-VHY3MS on every altar H4196 BD-NMS a bullock H6499 and a ram H352 .
3 And Balaam H1109 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Balak H1111 , Stand H3320 by H5921 PREP thy burnt offering H5930 , and I will go H1980 : peradventure H194 ADV the LORD H3068 EDS will come H7136 to meet H7125 me : and whatsoever H1697 W-CMS he showeth H7200 me I will tell H5046 thee . And he went H1980 W-VQY3MS to a high place H8205 .
4 And God H430 EDP met H7136 Balaam H1109 : and he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP him , I have prepared H6186 VQQ1MS seven H7651 RMS altars H4196 , and I have offered H5927 upon every altar H4196 BD-NMS a bullock H6499 and a ram H352 .
5 And the LORD H3068 EDS put H7760 W-VQY3MS a word H1697 VQPMS in Balaam H1109 \'s mouth H6310 B-CMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Return H7725 VQFC unto H413 PREP Balak H1111 , and thus H3541 thou shalt speak H1696 .
6 And he returned H7725 unto H413 PREP-3MS him , and , lo H2009 IJEC , he stood H5324 by H5921 PREP his burnt sacrifice H5930 , he H1931 PPRO-3MS , and all H3605 W-CMS the princes H8269 CMP of Moab H4124 .
7 And he took up H5375 W-VQY3MS his parable H4912 CMS-3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Balak H1111 the king H4428 NMS of Moab H4124 hath brought H5148 me from H4480 PREP Aram H758 EMS , out of the mountains H2042 of the east H6924 NMS , saying , Come H1980 VQI2MS-3FS , curse H779 me Jacob H3290 , and come H1980 , defy H2194 Israel H3478 LMS .
8 How H4100 IGAT shall I curse H6895 , whom God H410 EDS hath not H3808 NADV cursed H6895 ? or how H4100 W-IGAT shall I defy H2194 , whom the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS hath not H3808 NADV defied H2194 ?
9 For H3588 CONJ from the top H7218 of the rocks H6697 I see H7200 him , and from the hills H1389 I behold H7789 him : lo H2005 PART , the people H5971 NMS shall dwell H7931 VQY3MS alone H910 , and shall not H3808 NADV be reckoned H2803 among the nations H1471 .
10 Who H4310 IPRO can count H4487 the dust H6083 CMS of Jacob H3290 , and the number H4557 of the fourth H7255 part of Israel H3478 ? Let me H5315 CFS-1MS die H4191 VQI3FS the death H4194 of the righteous H3477 AMP , and let my last end H319 be H1961 W-VQI3FS like his H3644 !
11 And Balak H1111 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Balaam H1109 , What H4100 IPRO hast thou done H6213 VQQ2MS unto me ? I took H3947 thee to curse H6895 mine enemies H341 , and , behold H2009 IJEC , thou hast blessed them altogether H1288 VPQ2MS .
12 And he answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Must I not H3808 I-NADV take heed H8104 to speak H1696 that which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath put H7760 VQY3MS in my mouth H6310 B-CMS ?
13 And Balak H1111 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Come H1980 , I pray thee H4994 , with H854 PREP-1MS me unto H413 PREP another H312 AMS place H4725 NUM-MS , from whence H834 RPRO thou mayest see H7200 them : thou shalt see H7200 VQY2MS but H657 the utmost part H7097 of them , and shalt not H3808 NADV see H7200 VQY2MS them all H3605 : and curse H6895 me them from thence H8033 M-ADV .
14 And he brought H3947 him into the field H7704 CMS of Zophim H6839 , to H413 PREP the top H7218 NMS of Pisgah H6449 , and built H1129 W-VQY3MS seven H7651 NUM-MS altars H4196 , and offered H5927 W-VHY3MS a bullock H6499 and a ram H352 on every altar H4196 BD-NMS .
15 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Balak H1111 , Stand H3320 here H3541 by H5921 PREP thy burnt offering H5930 , while I H595 W-PPRO-1MS meet H7136 the LORD yonder H3541 .
16 And the LORD H3068 EDS met H7136 Balaam H1109 , and put H7760 W-VQY3MS a word H1697 VQPMS in his mouth H6310 B-CMS-3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Go again H7725 VQFC unto H413 PREP Balak H1111 , and say H1696 thus H3541 .
17 And when he came H935 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him , behold H2009 , he stood H5324 by H5921 PREP his burnt offering H5930 , and the princes H8269 of Moab H4124 with H854 PREP-3MS him . And Balak H1111 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , What H4100 IPRO hath the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS spoken H1696 VPQ3MS ?
18 And he took up H5375 W-VQY3MS his parable H4912 CMS-3MS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Rise up H6965 VQI2MS , Balak H1111 , and hear H8085 ; hearken H238 VHI2MS-3FS unto H5704 me , thou son H1121 CMS-3MS of Zippor H6834 :
19 God H410 EDS is not H3808 NADV a man H376 NMS , that he should lie H3576 ; neither the son H1121 W-CMS of man H120 NMS , that he should repent H5162 : hath he H1931 D-PPRO-3MS said H559 VQQ3MS , and shall he not H3808 W-NADV do H6213 VQY3MS it ? or hath he spoken H1696 , and shall he not H3808 W-NADV make it good H6965 ?
20 Behold H2009 IJEC , I have received H3947 commandment to bless H1288 : and he hath blessed H1288 ; and I cannot H3808 W-NPAR reverse H7725 it .
21 He hath not H3808 ADV beheld H5027 iniquity H205 NMS in Jacob H3290 , neither H3808 W-NADV hath he seen H7200 VQQ3MS perverseness H5999 NMS in Israel H3478 : the LORD H3068 EDS his God H430 CMP-3MS is with H5973 PREP-3MS him , and the shout H8643 of a king H4428 NMS is among them .
22 God H410 EDS brought them out H3318 of Egypt H4714 ; he hath as it were the strength H8443 of a unicorn H7214 .
23 Surely H3588 CONJ there is no H3808 NADV enchantment H5173 against Jacob H3290 , neither H3808 W-NADV is there any divination H7081 against Israel H3478 : according to this time H6256 KD-NMS it shall be said H559 of Jacob H3290 and of Israel H3478 , What H4100 IPRO hath God H410 NMS wrought H6466 !
24 Behold H2005 PART , the people H5971 NMS shall rise up H6965 VQY3MS as a great lion H3833 , and lift up himself H5375 as a young lion H738 : he shall not H3808 NADV lie down H7901 VQY3MS until H5704 PREP he eat H398 VQY3MS of the prey H2964 , and drink H8354 VQY3MS the blood H1818 of the slain H2491 NMP .
25 And Balak H1111 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Balaam H1109 , Neither H1571 CONJ curse them at all H6895 , nor H1571 CONJ bless them at all H1288 VPI2MS .
26 But Balaam H1109 answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Balak H1111 , Told H413 PREP not H3808 I-NADV I thee , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , All H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS speaketh H1696 VPQ1MS , that I must do H6213 ?
27 And Balak H1111 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Balaam H1109 , Come H1980 VQI2MS-3FS , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , I will bring H3947 thee unto H413 PREP another H312 AMS place H4725 NUM-MS ; peradventure H194 ADV it will please H3474 God H430 D-EDP that thou mayest curse H6895 me them from thence H8033 M-ADV .
28 And Balak H1111 brought H3947 W-VQY3MS Balaam H1109 unto the top H7218 NMS of Peor H6465 , that looketh H8259 toward H5921 PREP Jeshimon H3452 .
29 And Balaam H1109 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Balak H1111 , Build H1129 me here H2088 seven H7651 NUM-MS altars H4196 , and prepare H3559 me here H2088 seven H7651 NUM-MS bullocks H6499 NMP and seven H7651 W-MMS rams H352 .
30 And Balak H1111 did H6213 W-VQY3MS as H834 K-RPRO Balaam H1109 had said H559 VQQ3MS , and offered H5927 W-VHY3MS a bullock H6499 and a ram H352 on every altar H4196 BD-NMS .
