1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,

2 "Count the men in the families of the Kohath family group. (The Kohath family group is a part of Levi's family group.)

3 Count all the men from 30 to 50 years old who come to serve. These men will work in the Meeting Tent.

4 Their job is to take care of the most holy things in the Meeting Tent.

5 "When the Israelites travel to a new place, Aaron and his sons must go into the Meeting Tent and take down the curtain and cover the Box of the Agreement with it.

6 Then they must cover all of this with covering made from fine leather. Then they must spread the solid blue cloth over the leather and put the poles in the rings on the Holy Box.

7 "Then they must spread a blue cloth over the holy table. Then they must put the plates, spoons, bowls, and the jars for drink offerings on the table. Put the special bread on the table.

8 Then you must put a red cloth over all of these things, cover everything with fine leather, and put the poles in the rings of the table.

9 "Then they must cover the lampstand and its lamps with a blue cloth. They must also cover all the things used to keep the lamps burning and all the jars of oil that are used in the lamps.

10 Then wrap everything in fine leather. Then they must put all these things on poles used for carrying them.

11 "They must spread a blue cloth over the golden altar. They must cover that with fine leather. Then they must put the poles for carrying it in the rings on the altar.

12 "Then they must gather together all the special things that are used for worship in the Holy Place. They must gather them together and wrap them in a blue cloth. Then they must cover that with fine leather. They must put these things on a frame for carrying them.

13 "They must clean the ashes out of the bronze altar and spread a purple cloth over it.

14 Then they must gather together all the things that are used for worship at the altar. These are the fire pans, forks, shovels, and the bowls. They must put these things on the bronze altar. Then they must spread a covering of fine leather over the altar and put the poles for carrying it in the rings on the altar.

15 "Aaron and his sons must finish covering all the holy things in the Holy Place. Then the men from the Kohath family can go in and begin carrying these things. In this way they will not touch the holy things and die.

16 "Eleazar son of Aaron the priest will be responsible for the Holy Tent. He will be responsible for everything in it, including the holy things. He will be responsible for the oil for the lamp, the sweet-smelling incense, the daily offering, and the anointing oil."

17 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,

18 "Be careful! Don't let these Kohathite men be destroyed.

19 You must do these things so that the Kohathite men can go near the most holy things and not die. Aaron and his sons must go in and show each Kohathite man what to do and what to carry.

20 If you don't do this, the Kohathite men might go in and look at the holy things. If they look at these things, even for a moment, they must die."

21 The Lord said to Moses,

22 "Count all the people of the Gershon family. List them by family and family group.

23 Count all the men who are from 30 to 50 years old who come to serve. These men will have the job of caring for the Meeting Tent.

24 "This is what the Gershonite family must do and the things they must carry:

25 They must carry the curtains of the Holy Tent, the Meeting Tent, its covering, and the covering made from fine leather. They must also carry the curtain at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.

26 They must carry the curtains of the courtyard that are around the Holy Tent and the altar. And they must carry the curtain for the entrance of the courtyard. They must also carry all of the ropes and all the things that are used with the curtains. The Gershonite men will be responsible for anything that needs to be done with these things.

27 Aaron and his sons will watch all the work that is done. Everything the Gershonites carry and the other work they do will be watched by Aaron and his sons. You must tell them what they are responsible for carrying.

28 This is the work that the men of the Gershonite family group must do for the Meeting Tent. Ithamar son of Aaron the priest will be responsible for their work."

29 "Count all of the men in the families and family groups in the Merari family group.

30 Count all the men who are from 30 to 50 years old and come to serve. These men will do a special work for the Meeting Tent.

31 When you travel, it is their job to carry the frames of the Meeting Tent. They must carry the braces, the posts, and the bases.

32 They must also carry the posts that are around the courtyard. They must carry the bases, the tent pegs, the ropes, and everything that is used for the poles around the courtyard. List the names and tell each man exactly what he must carry.

33 This is what the people from the Merari family will do to serve in the work for the Meeting Tent. Ithamar son of Aaron the priest will be responsible for their work."

34 Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of the Israelites counted the Kohathites. They counted them by families and family groups.

35 They counted all the men from 30 to 50 years old who were able to serve. These men were given special work to do for the Meeting Tent.

36 There were 2750 men in the Kohath family group who were qualified to do this work.

37 So these men from the Kohath family group were given their special work to do for the Meeting Tent. Moses and Aaron did this the way the Lord had told Moses to do.

38 Also, the Gershonite family group was counted.

39 All the men from 30 to 50 years old who qualified to serve were counted. These men were given their special work to do for the Meeting Tent.

40 There were 2630 men in the families of the Gershon family group who were qualified.

41 So these men from the Gershon family group were given their special work to do for the Meeting Tent. Moses and Aaron did this the way the Lord had told Moses to do.

42 Also, the men in the families and family groups of the Merari family were counted.

43 All the men from 30 to 50 years old who qualified to serve were counted. These men were given their special work to do for the Meeting Tent.

44 There were 3200 men in the families of the Merari family group who were qualified.

45 So these men from the Merari family group were given their special work. Moses and Aaron did this the way the Lord told Moses to do.

46 So Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of the Israelites counted all the people in Levi's family group. They had counted each family and each family group.

47 All the men between the ages of 30 and 50 who qualified to serve were counted. These men were given a special work to do for the Meeting Tent. They did the work of carrying the Meeting Tent when they traveled.

48 The total number was 8580.

49 Each man was counted just as the Lord commanded Moses. Each man was given his own work and told what he must carry just as the Lord commanded.

4 This ^H2063 ^DPRO shall be the service ^H5656 of the sons ^H1121 of Kohath ^H6955 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS , about the most holy things ^H6944 :

5 And when the camp ^H4264 setteth forward ^H5265 , Aaron ^H175 shall come ^H935 , and his sons ^H1121 ^W-CMP-3MS , and they shall take down ^H3381 the covering ^H4539 veil ^H6532 , and cover ^H3680 the ark ^H727 of testimony ^H5715 with it :

6 And shall put ^H5414 thereon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS the covering ^H3681 of badgers ^H8476 \' skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and shall spread ^H6566 over ^H4605 it a cloth ^H899 wholly ^H3632 of blue ^H8504 , and shall put ^H7760 in the staves ^H905 thereof .

7 And upon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS the table ^H7979 of shewbread ^H6440 they shall spread ^H6566 a cloth ^H899 of blue ^H8504 , and put ^H5414 thereon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS the dishes ^H7086 , and the spoons ^H3709 , and the bowls ^H4518 , and covers ^H7184 to cover ^H5262 withal : and the continual ^H8548 bread ^H3899 shall be ^H1961 thereon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS :

8 And they shall spread ^H6566 upon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MP them a cloth ^H899 of scarlet ^H8438 ^CFS , and cover ^H3680 the same with a covering ^H4372 of badgers ^H8476 \' skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and shall put in the staves ^H905 thereof .

9 And they shall take ^H3947 a cloth ^H899 of blue ^H8504 , and cover ^H3680 the candlestick ^H4501 of the light ^H3974 ^D-AMS , and his lamps ^H5216 , and his tongs ^H4457 , and his censers ^H4289 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the oil ^H8081 vessels ^H3627 thereof , wherewith ^H834 ^RPRO they minister ^H8334 unto it :

10 And they shall put ^H5414 it and all ^H3605 ^NMS the vessels ^H3627 thereof within ^H413 ^PREP a covering ^H4372 ^CMS of badgers ^H8476 \' skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and shall put ^H5414 it upon ^H5921 ^PREP a bar ^H4132 .

11 And upon ^H5921 ^W-PREP the golden ^H2091 altar ^H4196 they shall spread ^H6566 a cloth ^H899 of blue ^H8504 , and cover ^H3680 it with a covering ^H4372 of badgers ^H8476 \' skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and shall put ^H7725 to the staves ^H905 thereof :

12 And they shall take ^H3947 all ^H3605 ^NMS the instruments ^H3627 of ministry ^H8335 , wherewith ^H834 ^RPRO they minister ^H8334 in the sanctuary ^H6944 , and put ^H5414 them in ^H413 ^PREP a cloth ^H899 of blue ^H8504 , and cover ^H3680 them with a covering ^H4372 of badgers ^H8476 \' skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and shall put ^H5414 them on ^H5921 ^PREP a bar ^H4132 :

13 And they shall take away the ashes ^H1878 from the altar ^H4196 ^D-NMS , and spread ^H6566 a purple ^H713 cloth ^H899 thereon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS :

14 And they shall put ^H5414 upon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS it all ^H3605 ^NMS the vessels ^H3627 thereof , wherewith ^H834 ^RPRO they minister ^H8334 about ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS it , even the censers ^H4289 , the fleshhooks ^H4207 , and the shovels ^H3257 , and the basins ^H4219 , all ^H3605 ^NMS the vessels ^H3627 of the altar ^H4196 ^D-NMS ; and they shall spread ^H6566 upon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS it a covering ^H3681 of badgers ^H8476 \' skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and put ^H7760 to the staves ^H905 of it .

15 And when Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121 ^W-CMP-3MS have made an end ^H3615 of covering ^H3680 the sanctuary ^H6944 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the vessels ^H3627 of the sanctuary ^H6944 , as the camp ^H4264 is to set forward ^H5265 ; after ^H310 that ^H3651 ^ADV , the sons ^H1121 ^CMP of Kohath ^H6955 shall come ^H935 ^VQY3MP to bear ^H5375 it : but they shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR touch ^H5060 any holy thing ^H6944 , lest they die ^H4191 . These ^H428 ^PMP things are the burden ^H4853 of the sons ^H1121 of Kohath ^H6955 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 .

16 And to the office ^H6486 of Eleazar ^H499 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 the priest ^H3548 pertaineth the oil ^H8081 ^NMS for the light ^H3974 ^D-AMS , and the sweet ^H5561 incense ^H7004 ^W-CFS , and the daily ^H8548 meat offering ^H4503 , and the anointing ^H4888 oil ^H8081 ^NMS , and the oversight ^H6486 of all ^H3605 ^NMS the tabernacle ^H4908 , and of all ^H3605 ^NMS that ^H834 ^RPRO therein is , in the sanctuary ^H6944 , and in the vessels ^H3627 thereof .

17 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS spoke ^H1696 ^W-VPY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP Moses ^H4872 and unto ^H413 ^PREP Aaron ^H175 , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC ,

18 Cut ye not off ^H3772 the tribe ^H7626 ^CMS of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the Kohathites ^H6956 from among ^H8432 the Levites ^H3881 :

19 But thus ^H2063 do ^H6213 unto them , that they may live ^H2421 , and not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR die ^H4191 ^VQY3MP , when they approach ^H5066 unto the most holy things ^H6944 : Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121 ^W-CMP-3MS shall go in ^H935 ^VQY3MP , and appoint ^H7760 them every one ^H376 ^NMS to ^H5921 ^PREP his service ^H5656 and to ^H413 ^W-PREP his burden ^H4853 :

20 But they shall not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR go in ^H935 ^VQY3MP to see ^H7200 ^L-VQFC when the holy things ^H6944 are covered ^H1104 , lest they die ^H4191 .

21 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS spoke ^H1696 ^W-VPY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP Moses ^H4872 , saying ^H559 ,

22 Take ^H5375 also ^H1571 ^CONJ the sum ^H7218 ^NMS of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1648 , throughout the houses ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 , by their families ^H4940 ;

23 From thirty ^H7970 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 and upward ^H4605 until ^H5704 ^PREP fifty ^H2572 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 shalt thou number ^H6485 them ; all ^H3605 ^NMS that enter in ^H935 to perform ^H6633 the service ^H5656 , to do ^H5647 the work ^H5656 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 .

24 This ^H2063 ^DPRO is the service ^H5656 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the Gershonites ^H1649 , to serve ^H5647 , and for burdens ^H4853 :

25 And they shall bear ^H5375 the curtains ^H3407 of the tabernacle ^H4908 , and the tabernacle ^H168 ^NMS of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS , his covering ^H4372 , and the covering ^H4372 of the badgers\' skins ^H8476 that ^H834 ^RPRO is above ^H4605 upon ^H5921 ^PREP-3MS it , and the hanging ^H4539 for the door ^H6607 ^CMS of the tabernacle ^H168 ^NMS of the congregation ^H4150 ,

27 At ^H5921 ^PREP the appointment ^H6310 of Aaron ^H175 and his sons ^H1121 ^W-CMP-3MS shall be ^H1961 ^VQY3FS all ^H3605 ^NMS the service ^H5656 of the sons ^H1121 ^W-CMP-3MS of the Gershonites ^H1649 , in all ^H3605 ^NMS their burdens ^H4853 , and in all ^H3605 ^NMS their service ^H5656 : and ye shall appoint ^H6485 unto ^H5921 ^PREP them in charge ^H4931 all ^H3605 ^NMS their burdens ^H4853 .

28 This ^H2063 ^DPRO is the service ^H5656 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1649 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS : and their charge ^H4931 shall be under the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of Ithamar ^H385 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 the priest ^H3548 .

29 As for the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847 , thou shalt number ^H6485 them after their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP , by the house ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 ;

30 From thirty ^H7970 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 and upward ^H4605 even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP fifty ^H2572 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 shalt thou number ^H6485 them , every one ^H3605 ^NMS that entereth ^H935 into the service ^H6635 , to do ^H5647 the work ^H5656 of the tabernacle ^H168 ^NMS of the congregation ^H4150 .

31 And this ^H2063 is the charge ^H4931 of their burden ^H4853 , according to all ^H3605 ^L-CMS their service ^H5656 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS ; the boards ^H7175 of the tabernacle ^H4908 , and the bars ^H1280 thereof , and the pillars ^H5982 thereof , and sockets ^H134 thereof ,

32 And the pillars ^H5982 of the court ^H2691 round about ^H5439 ^ADV , and their sockets ^H134 , and their pins ^H3489 , and their cords ^H4340 , with all ^H3605 ^L-CMS their instruments ^H3627 , and with all ^H3605 ^WL-CMS their service ^H5656 : and by name ^H8034 ye shall reckon ^H6485 the instruments ^H3627 of the charge ^H4931 of their burden ^H4853 .

33 This ^H2063 ^DPRO is the service ^H5656 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847 , according to all ^H3605 ^L-CMS their service ^H5656 , in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS , under the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of Ithamar ^H385 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 the priest ^H3548 .

34 And Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 and the chief ^H5387 of the congregation ^H5712 numbered ^H6485 the sons ^H1121 of the Kohathites ^H6956 after their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP , and after the house ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 ,

35 From thirty ^H7970 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 and upward ^H4605 even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP fifty ^H2572 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 , every one ^H3605 ^NMS that entereth ^H935 into the service ^H6635 , for the work ^H5656 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 :

36 And those that were numbered ^H6485 of them by their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP were ^H1961 ^W-VQY3MP two thousand ^H505 seven ^H7651 hundred ^H3967 ^BFP and fifty ^H2572 .

37 These ^H428 ^PMP were they that were numbered ^H6485 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the Kohathites ^H6956 , all ^H3605 ^NMS that might do service ^H5647 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS , which ^H834 ^RPRO Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 did number ^H6485 ^VQQ3MS according to ^H5921 ^PREP the commandment ^H6310 of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS by the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of Moses ^H4872 .

38 And those that were numbered ^H6485 of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1648 , throughout their families ^H4940 , and by the house ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 ,

39 From thirty ^H7970 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 and upward ^H4605 even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP fifty ^H2572 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 , every one ^H3605 ^NMS that entereth ^H935 into the service ^H6635 , for the work ^H5656 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ,

40 Even those that were numbered ^H6485 of them , throughout their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP , by the house ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 , were ^H1961 ^W-VQY3MP two thousand ^H505 and six ^H8337 ^W-RFS hundred ^H3967 ^BFP and thirty ^H7970 .

41 These ^H428 ^PMP are they that were numbered ^H6485 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the sons ^H1121 of Gershon ^H1648 , of all ^H3605 ^NMS that might do service ^H5647 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ^NMS , whom ^H834 ^RPRO Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 did number ^H6485 ^VQQ3MS according to ^H5921 ^PREP the commandment ^H6310 of the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS .

42 And those that were numbered ^H6485 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847 , throughout their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP , by the house ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 ,

43 From thirty ^H7970 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 and upward ^H4605 even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP fifty ^H2572 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 , every one ^H3605 ^NMS that entereth ^H935 into the service ^H6635 , for the work ^H5656 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ,

44 Even those that were numbered ^H6485 of them after their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP , were ^H1961 ^W-VQY3MP three ^H7969 ^BMS thousand ^H505 ^MMP and two hundred ^H3967 .

45 These ^H428 ^PMP be those that were numbered ^H6485 of the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847 , whom ^H834 ^RPRO Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 numbered ^H6485 ^VQQ3MS according to ^H5921 ^PREP the word ^H6310 of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS by the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of Moses ^H4872 .

46 All ^H3605 ^CMS those that were numbered ^H6485 of the Levites ^H3881 , whom ^H834 ^RPRO Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 and the chief ^H5387 of Israel ^H3478 numbered ^H6485 ^VQQ3MS , after their families ^H4940 ^L-CFP-3MP , and after the house ^H1004 of their fathers ^H1 ,

47 From thirty ^H7970 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 and upward ^H4605 even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP fifty ^H2572 ^MMP years ^H8141 ^NFS old ^H1121 , every one ^H3605 ^NMS that came ^H935 to do ^H5647 the service ^H5656 of the ministry ^H5656 , and the service ^H5656 of the burden ^H4853 in the tabernacle ^H168 of the congregation ^H4150 ,

48 Even those that were numbered ^H6485 of them , were ^H1961 ^W-VQY3MP eight ^H8083 thousand ^H505 ^MMP and five ^H2568 ^W-BFS hundred ^H3967 ^BFP and fourscore ^H8084 .

49 According to ^H5921 ^PREP the commandment ^H6310 of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS they were numbered ^H6485 ^VQQ3MS by the hand ^H3027 ^B-CFS of Moses ^H4872 , every one ^H376 ^NMS according to ^H5921 ^PREP his service ^H5656 , and according to ^H5921 ^PREP his burden ^H4853 : thus were they numbered ^H6485 of him , as ^H834 ^RPRO the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS commanded ^H6680 ^VPQ3MS Moses ^H4872 .
